Bahadir Karasu is a renowned Turkish filmmaker, known for his diverse roles in the film industry as a scriptwriter, videographer, post-production-production assistant, editor, and director. Born on April 26, 1990, in Bandirma, Turkey, Karasu has been a driving force in supporting guerrilla filmmaking with independent, avant-garde, and auteur style visions, while actively challenging producer dominance.
In 2009, he embarked on a mission to unite young independent filmmakers, fostering a community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of filmmaking. His group aimed to empower emerging talents and encourage the creation of unconventional and thought-provoking cinema.
In collaboration with his close friend, Karasu officially established Pirana Film, a production company in 2012. This venture provided a platform for Karasu to further explore his creative pursuits and develop innovative projects.
In 2013, he introduced audiences to his artistic prowess with his first avant-garde and minimalistic short film, "Echo." This visually stunning piece showcased Karasu's unique perspective and artistic vision, captivating viewers and leaving a lasting impression.
Continuing his passion for collaboration and cultural exchange, Karasu co-directed the Spanish fantasy short film, "Un Pueblo Donde Dios No Existe" (A Village Where God Does Not Exist), alongside Italian director Fabrizio Rossetti in 2015. The film received critical acclaim and was showcased at the Barcelona Planet Film Festival in December 2015. Additionally, it was selected for the prestigious monthly online event, Los Angeles CineFest, in January 2016.
In 2017, Karasu demonstrated his versatility as a filmmaker with the release of his captivating short film, "Nyctophilia." This poignant work garnered international recognition, being officially selected for numerous film festivals. It achieved remarkable success by reaching the semi-finals in the Los Angeles CineFest and becoming a finalist in the Underground Film Festival in Dublin, Ireland. Furthermore, "Nyctophilia" received acclaim at the World Premiere Film Awards in Ontario, Canada, winning three prestigious awards in the categories of Best Score, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.
