[This story contains spoilers from the Power Book II: Ghost series finale.]
On the very first episode of Power created by Courtney Kemp and executive produced by rapper-turned-tv mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson back in June 2014, there was no way of knowing that the kid in the nice penthouse apartment asking his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) if his father James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), who spoke fluent Spanish, could “hook up” his Spanish homework as she served breakfast was on his way to becoming a drug kingpin. At that point, the young Tariq didn’t even know his father was himself a kingpin known on the streets as Ghost (Hardwick). And that his mother also knew. Michael Rainey Jr. was just a few months from turning 14. Now a decade later, just over a week after turning 24, he’s closed out another series.
When Power Book II: Ghost premiered Sept. 6, 2020, the pandemic had put the whole country and world on a life-turning timeout.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the series finale of Starz‘s Power Book II: Ghost.
In 2014, Michael Rainey Jr. was a young teen when he debuted as Tariq St. Patrick in the Starz drama series Power, from executive producers Courtney A. Kemp and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Today, Rainey is older and wiser after a decade of growing up in front of audiences in two Power Universe series— including most recently, Power Book II: Ghost where he survives to see another series finale. Could there be a third?
The Power Book II: Ghost conclusion, currently available to stream via the Starz app, wraps up many storylines while leaving others open for possible continuation. Deadline has spoken to the network regarding what the future holds but there are no announcements to be made at present. And it’s important to note that with one more season of Power...

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the series finale of Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost.
After four short seasons, Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost is officially over following tonight’s series finale titled “Ghost in the Machine.” This won’t be a recap of the episode as we will be breaking all that down tomorrow with two of the show’s biggest stars, but rather it’s to discuss Tariq St. Patrick’s (Michael Rainey Jr.) Marvel moment, if you will, at the end of the episode following the credits.

The final season of Power Book II: Ghost will go down as the most watched show ever on Starz.
The drama, which is headed toward its series finale on Oct. 4, is averaging 10.5 million viewers across all platforms, measured for 90 days post-premiere. (Several years ago, Starz noted that season five of Ghost’s predecessor, Power, averaged 10.8 million viewers, but over a longer span of time than 90 days.)
The Power franchise, which encompasses four series, has set a number of ratings records for Starz. The flagship series displaced Spartacus as Starz’s most watched show at the time back in 2015 and continued to roll up big audiences over the course of its run. Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan and Book IV: Force — which notched the biggest opening weekend for any series premiere in the channel’s history — have also pulled in strong viewing numbers over their runs.

Mary J. Blige remembers the first time she got positive feedback for her acting. “When I was 7, I did a Christmas play in school, and the word from the other students and teachers was that me and this guy who was also in the play did very, very, very well,” she says. “It put something in me like, ‘Okay maybe I can really do this,’ and I always wanted to act [after] getting that feedback. At some point, I kind of left it alone and got into the music business.”
Choosing the music business early in her career has more than worked out for Blige. To date, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, won nine Grammys and is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October. And she’s not stopping. Is Diana Tejada okay?
That was the central question lingering on our minds when the credits rolled on Power Book II: Ghost Season 4 Episode 6, and Diana was lying on the pavement with a panicked Tariq calling out for help.
We’ll have to wait for answers about what comes next for Diana and Tariq, but even so, we had to go right to the source to try and get some answers.
(Courtesy of Starz)
Tariq and Diana’s portrayers, Michael Rainey Jr. and Latoya Tonodeo, were kind enough to spend a few minutes with me reacting to the latest episode and looking ahead to what’s coming from the final few episodes.
Diana found herself in a tricky situation when one of Carter’s underlings, Felicia, tasked her with killing drug dealer Zion after he made a potential mess for her and her fellow dirty cops.

A new show hits the air, and you’re hooked, counting down the days until the next season. Then, out of nowhere — Boom! — you find out your favorite show is canceled.
Before the age of streaming, plenty of beloved shows barely made it past one season. The usual culprit? “Low ratings.”
(Fox / Screenshot)
But often, networks were to blame. Maybe they stuck a great show in a terrible time slot or scheduled it against a ratings juggernaut on another network.
Sometimes, the show was too edgy or dark for network bigwigs or too complex for mainstream audiences to embrace right away.
In rare cases, fan campaigns brought a canceled show back for another season, but more often, it was game over.
If streaming had been as big back then as it is now, these shows — and their loyal fans — might have gotten the long run they deserved.
So, what failed...

Power Book II: Ghost is set to unveil its final episodes, so when can you see the conclusion of the epic crime drama? Debuting on Starz in 2014, Power soon became one of the network’s biggest hits. It told the story of James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick) aka “Ghost,” a drug lord running a nightclub. The show ran six seasons with various twists and turns as James tried to keep power amid complicated romances.
The final episode revealed James had been shot dead in a fight with his own son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.) Tariq’s mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton) took the fall for it in the hopes Tariq could have a better life. The show would spawn spin-offs in Book III: Kanan (a prequel set in the 1990s) and Book IV: Force (focusing on James’ best friend Tommy embarking on his own journey).

The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco directed the first three movies in that series, then when he decided to pass the helm over to another director for the fourth film, a prequel called The First Purge, the person chosen for the job was Gerard McMurray, who made his feature directorial debut with the 2017 Netflix drama Burning Sands. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that McMurray is currently in production on his first movie since The First Purge was released six years ago: the horror film Goons, which has The Exorcism‘s Chloe Bailey and Power‘s Michael Rainey Jr. in the lead roles.
Filming on Goons is taking place in New Orleans and nearby areas, and the story is said to be set amid the eerie backdrop of the state’s cane fields and plantations. McMurray wrote the script with Hodge K. Johnson, but details on the plot are being kept under wraps.

Plot details are scarce at this time, but Goons is said to be “set in the eerie backdrop of Louisiana cane fields and plantations.” Of course, the film’s title may hold clues.
“I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. All midseason finales don't need to go out with a massive cliffhanger. Or even a bang.
They just need to do enough to leave you wanting more.
Did the Last Power Book II: Ghost midseason finale pull that off? Yes and no.
This season of Power Ghost has been more hit-and-miss than we're used to, but even with some hours that weren't the best, the series continues to be one of the most entertaining on television.
And that's exactly what this hour was.
It may not have ended on a crazy cliffhanger that will keep us guessing until the show returns this fall, but it didn't need to. We'll still be coming back to see how this story finishes.

Dru (Lovell Adams-Gray) and Diana Tejada (Latoya Tonodeo) helped create a whole new level of drama going into Season 4 of Power Book II: Ghost. Tired of being underneath Monet Tejada’s (Mary J. Blige) thumb, the diabolical duo enlist Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) to kill their mother. Before he can pull the trigger, Tariq’s mother Tasha, does a drive-by hitting Monet and sending the siblings into a manhunt. After a couple of bullets, a video call, and some blackmail, Tariq was able to convince Noma to call off her kill order leaving the duo in distress. With Diana trying to navigate what course to take with her pregnancy and Dru solely focused on revenge, the siblings are on separate paths. “There’s a lot of cuts and bruises that have happened, and we don’t have the time to really dive into the root of the issue,...

This felt like an old-school episode of Power.
Ghost and Tommy, fresh off a betrayal, trying to figure out how to salvage their business, all while leery of everyone around them, and even each other.
But they figure it out and make a move that sets them up beautifully for the long run. Until something inevitably gets in their way and causes everything to fall apart again.
Now we know Power Book II: Ghost is a whole other animal, but this had a lot of old-school vibes to it, and we even got a Ghost and Tommy mention, which further makes my case!
With Tariq and Brayden deciding they weren't content to play pretend at school and fight and claw for minimum wage (at least for Tariq), the next step was figuring out how to get back into the game.
I've said it before, and I'll repeat it: Tariq has lucked into many things.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Power Book II: Ghost Season 4 Episode 2 “To Thine Ownself.”] There are Power(ful) shifts happening in the next episode of Power Book II: Ghost. Since we met Effie in Season 5 of the original Power series, she’s become a key power player. When Alix Lapri debuted as Effie Morales, she was the love interest of Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) who ends up anonymously tipping off the Choate administration to his drug dealing, leading to his expulsion. When we meet her again, Tariq and Brayden (Gianni Paolo) are trying to expand their business to other Ivy Leagues, but the relationship has always been complicated—and for good reason. Effie has a knack for going into self-preservation mode when things go haywire, making her resourcefulness her ultimate weapon. “Effie likes to pride herself as the one that never needs saving, like, I can do this on my own. I’ve...

Tariq and Brayden found themselves broke for a few days and were like...absolutely not.
They got a little taste of the life for many college students and were not about to run themselves ragged for pocket change when they had a skillset equipped to bring in the kind of money most people could only dream of.
Power Book II: Ghost Season 4 Episode 2 may have been an hour solely meant to set up the rest of the season, but even a transitional hour in this universe can be entertaining as hell.
Only Tariq could kill a man on campus and just waltz around the place like everything was chill. He was back at Stansfield, attending classes and doing his thing, while one person had the nerve to call him out, and they did so in the least threatening way possible.

Starz’s Power Book IV: Force will conclude following the drama’s third season which is currently in production in Chicago. It’s lights out for Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and the gang but that doesn’t mean their stories are over.
As Deadline reported in March, Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive. The plan was implemented immediately as Starz announced the next day the development of a new prequel series Origin, following the Ghost (Omari Hardwick in the flagship series) and Tommy during their early years. The new show is similar to Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which centers on Power’s favorite foe, Kanan Stark (played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) during his younger years.

It's bittersweet knowing this is the last season premiere for Power Book II: Ghost, but boy, did they bring the heat for this final run.
Coming off a wild and deliciously twisted Power Book II: Ghost Season 3 Episode 10, the premiere picked up right where that finale left off, with Tariq and Brayden on the run and trying to figure out how they were going to keep their heads above water.
It's shaping up to be Tariq and Brayden against the world, but considering this is the Power universe, it's probably safe to assume they will throw a few curveballs our way before it's curtains on this special series.

In this big rich town, legal or illegal, they’re gonna make it! The cast of Power Book II: Ghost is returning for their fourth and final season on June 7 on Starz. The second installment within the Power universe picks up where the 2014 original series leaves off — with Tariq St. Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr.) killing his father. As if attending the prestigious Stansfield University and attempting to keep his family together wasn’t enough pressure for a young adult, he’s juggling distributing drugs, bribery, blackmail, and so much more. Still, he always makes it in time for his Canonical Studies class. By the time Season 4 comes around, new alliances have been made, leaving Tariq in a state of pure “offense, rather than being on defense,” Rainey Jr. teased to TV Insider in the video above. “He’s just worried about creating chaos,...

Broadcast will also have some returning favorites with new seasons like “The Bachelorette” and more.
