Our International Sales Agent (Isa) of the Day coverage is back again for this year's Cannes Film Festival. We will feature successful, upcoming, innovative and trailblazing agents from around the world, and cover the latest trends in sales and distribution. Beyond the numbers and deals, this segment will also share inspirational and unique stories of how these individuals have evolved and paved their way in the industry, and what they envision for the new waves in global cinema.
Isa's of the Day will be posted regularly during Cannes, but the buzz has already begun with the recent release of the festival lineup -- so expect to see Isa updates over the coming weeks.
The first Isa of the Day is Lise Romanoff, Managing Director and CEO of Worldwide Distribution at Vision Films. Based in Sherman Oaks, California, Vision Films is an independent Worldwide Sales Agent and VOD Aggregator of over 500 Feature Films, 500 Documentaries and 100 different Music Programs from some of the most prolific independent film producers in the world.
In early 2013, Vision Films expanded into the world of domestic distribution with the creation of their own DVD/ VOD label, releasing films day-and-date on DVD and VOD through all cable and digital platforms such as Comcast, Directv, Dish, At&T, iTunes and Amazon, and retailers including RedBox, Walmart, Best Buy and Target. It is one of the few independent companies with a worldwide presence to also have a domestic division. Vision Films works directly with all its platforms and has no middlemen, releasing at least 2 - 3 titles on DVD and 3 - 4 titles on VOD every month.
Since opening their doors as a DVD/ VOD label, Vision Films has released an array of independent feature films including Hamlet And Hutch with Burt Reynolds; Wreckers, a coming-of-age story starring Benedict Cumberbatch; The Employer, an intense thriller starring Malcolm McDowell; Contract Killers is a non-stop martial arts action picture; and Sunset Strip, a music and pop culture documentary that chronicles Strip from its origins in the 1920s through today featuring Slash, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Dan Aykroyd, Keanu Reeves, Ozzy Osbourne, Hugh Hefner, and music from Jane’s Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, and more.
The Vision Films catalog also has stories of global consciousness, including Comedy Warriors, a documentary where Zach Galifianakis, Lewis Black and Bob Saget help disabled soldiers heal through humor by teaching them stand-up comedy; Finding Happiness by Ted Nicholaou, a spiritual journey starring Elisabeth Röhm; Femme: Women Healing The World with Sharon Stone by Emmanuel Itier; and Shirin In Love, a romantic comedy starring Nazanin Boniadi by Ramin Niami about a quirky Iranian-American young woman who goes against tradition to follow her heart.
Lise Romanoff recently took the time to speak with SydneysBuzz:
What are buyers looking for?
2014 has been a vibrant year! Buyers are looking for product that can play across all channels of distribution: Theatrical, Home Video, VOD and Television. VOD has opened up a lot of doors for “niche” product because the Internet is the best way to find a specific fan base. We are offering star-studded feature films and top-notch documentaries that entertain and inspire. We attend all of the film markets, as well as the TV markets, and even the specialty territory-specific regional markets.
Where are the strongest markets?
U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Germany, France, Italy and Japan are the strongest countries, but for the most part, sales are evenly spread around the world.
How are sales going?
Sales are up about 30% this year, but we are working harder than ever. Many of the films that we started pre-selling last year are now completed.
What are your intentions for Cannes?
We're looking to sell the films we are bringing to Cannes, and we're looking to acquire new family, action and animated features.
What is your line-up for Cannes?
Vision Films’ Cannes line-up includes God Loves Caviar, the journey of Ioannis Varvakis from humble Greek pirate to international caviar millionaire with Catherine Deneuve and John Cleese; The Identical, earmarked for a wide screen theatrical release this fall in the U.S. stars Ashley Judd, Seth Green and Ray Liotta and introduces Blake Rayne as the identical twin of the biggest rock star in the world; As Dreamers Do, a bio pic about the early years of Mr. Walt Disney; 10 Things I Hate About You is the sequel to Gil Junger’s 10 Things I Hate About Life starring Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonell; Fear Clinic with Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) will bring a new meaning to phobias this fall; and Mantervention, a sexy comedy with Chloe Bridges, where Travis Van Winkle shows Nick Roux how to get over his ex and #ontothenext.
Why include globally conscious films in your catalog?
A lot of documentaries make you think. It's important to take a few minutes and look at the world around us. Documentaries traditionally don’t garner as much revenue as feature films, but it makes me feel very good to have them in our catalog. I also feel that if I have this type of product, I'll attract other companies that have the same mission to release films that give back to the world.
We'll always continue to sell good horror or action films, but selling films with good messages makes me very happy at this point in my career.
As far as distribution is concerned, VOD is a good type of niche for this programming. On the long-term view... as the Internet develops, and people have go-to sites for these types of films, it will work. We will be able to develop these channels, bring like-minded communities together, and generate more money for the filmmakers so they can continue to produce these kinds of films.
How did Vision Films start?
Founded in 1997 and based in Sherman Oaks, California, Vision Films started in the garage of it founder, and now has grown to become an independent Worldwide Distributor and VOD Aggregator of thousands of feature films, documentaries and music Programs. Vision Films manages all available rights from Theatrical, Video, Television and VOD/ Digital Media in both the International and domestic marketplaces. Vision works closely with producers to develop a special marketing plan as well as a strategy to license their film(s) to the right distributors around the world through relationships cultivated over nearly 24 years.

Two new male faces are stopping by Rosewood later this season on "Pretty Little Liars" in the form of Nathaniel Buzolic and Nick Roux. What do we know about their characters so far?
Above, Dean (Buzolic) jogs with Spencer. His character is in town to help Ms. Hastings overcome her drug addiction, so perhaps he's a sort-of sober companion that her family hired? It certainly doesn't look like she's over the moon to be hanging out with him.
Below, Aria canoodles with Riley (Roux), an indie musician she meets -- and apparently hits it off with. Obviously after her big confrontation with Ezra, Aria won't be snuggling with him any time soon, but it's an open question as to how exactly this Riley person comes into her life. Why is he walking by a fraternity house? Is he a Hollis student?
Do you guys think either of these couplings are headed for romance?...

Creator April Blair reveals what she had planned for Jane & Billy's first kiss, Ben & Rita's race to the altar, and more. Jane By Design fans were crushed last week when ABC Family announced the show wouldn't be returning for a second season — I coped with carbs — but fortunately, creator April Blair was more than happy to give HollywoodLife.com an exclusive breakdown of what we would have seen in season two. And trust me, it would have been awesome. 1. Eli to the rescue: Curious how Jane (Erica Dasher) was going to explain to Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli (Bryan Dechart) why she was backstage at a high-school play? "Our idea was that Eli was going to cover for her," April says. "There were moments in episode 18 where he looked at the costumes crookedly, and throughout the play he pieced it together." 2. Jane & Billy's big moment: It sounds like Jane and...

It looked like the fate of Jane By Design could go either way but ABC Family has now decided to cancel the TV series. The drama ran for one season of 18 episodes.
Jane By Design tells the tale of a quirky teenager who has a unique fashion sense. She gets hired by chance at a hip fashion house and must learn to juggle her demanding new job while still attending high school. The cast includes Erica Dasher, Andie MacDowell, Rowly Dennis, India de Beaufort, Ser'Darius Blain, Brooke Lyons, Nick Roux, Meagan Tandy, Matthew Atkinson, and David Clayton Rogers.
The ABC Family series premiered in January to 1.6 million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The numbers for week two dropped about 30%. The numbers fluctuated week-to-week but viewership never got that high again.

ABC Family giveth and ABC Family taketh away. The network announced that it is picking up second seasons of breakout freshman series Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth, while ordering a third season of Melissa & Joey. Bunheads fans also received news to dance about as Amy Sherman-Palladino's quirky hit has been given a back-order pick-up. However, fans of Jane By Design were in for some bad news as ABC Family has decided not to bring back the show for a second season. Jane By Design star Nick Roux confirmed the sad news with fans via his Twitter account on Friday, posting, "Want my #rouxers to hear this from me first. #JaneByDesign will Not be coming back for a 2nd season. Bad news, "Jane By Design" fans: ABC Family has no designs on Season 2. On Friday, August 17, the network announced plans to extend the pickups of established series "Switched at Birth," "Bunheads," and "Baby Daddy," but obviously, "Jane By Design" was not on the list.
ABC Family confirms that the series will not be returning.
"Want my #rouxers to hear this from me first. #JaneByDesign will Not be coming back for a 2nd season," tweeted series star Nick Roux on Friday. "It sucks but everything happens for a reason... Or at least thats what ive been told haha."
The series finale, "The Bonus Check," aired July 31, 2012. Unfortunately for fans, it didn't exactly tie up loose ends. "Nothing is resolved at the end of this season -- I think we have to come back. We'll live in this very unresolved world!" Erica Dasher told Zap2it earlier this month.

'Jane By Design' won't return for a second season, ABC Family confirms. It's with much sadness that I report ABC Family has decided not to renew Jane By Design. The decision was announced Aug. 17, on the heels of several other series — Bunheads, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth — receiving new season and back-order pickups. The show's first season ended with Jane (Erica Dasher) finally getting caught by boss Gray (Andie MacDowell) for being in high school, after spending the series posing as her adult assistant. She had also finally acknowledged her feelings for best-friend Billy (Nick Roux). Several of the shows stars thanked fans for their support over Twitter: "Thank you so much for everything!!!" Jane herself, Erica, tweeted. "It was incredible and you all are the best part of that experience. Love love love" Rowly Dennis, who played hot-shot British design Jeremy, tweeted: "Sorry guys,...

What do You want to see when 'Jane By Design' (hopefully) returns to ABC Family for its second season? It's been seven whole days since Jane By Design aired its summer finale cliffhanger, and although the future of the series — much like Jane's (Erica Dasher) future at Donovan Decker — remains unconfirmed, I'm hearing that a second season is likely. So why not start compiling a wish list of all the things I'd like to see in season two? 1. An available, age-appropriate guy for Jane: I think we can all agree Jane has terrible luck with guys. Between unavailable-best-friend Billy (Nick Roux) and older-co-worker Eli (Bryan Dechart), Jane's love life was pretty much lose-lose at the end of season one. She just needs to find a nice guy her own age so she can finally get her groove back! Perhaps round two with Nick (Matt Atkinson...

The first season of 'Jane By Design' came to a close with surprise twists, new beginnings & one major cliffhanger! (This show Needs a second season.) When Jane By Design creator April Blair told me everything would be "put in jeopardy" for Jane (Erica Dasher) on the July 31 summer finale, I didn't realize what an understatement that really was. While Jane began the hour with a major victory in London, she ended it with a disappointing realization about Billy (Nick Roux) — and a very uncertain future at Donovan Decker! I think the best way to break down the drama is to take things couple by couple, beginning with... Ben & Rita: As promised, Ben (David Clayton Rogers) made his triumphant return home this week, but he didn't just do it for Jane! He also professed his love for Rita (Smith Cho), who returned his affections by interrupting his baseball practice with some intense Pda.

Who will Billy choose? Who's coming back? And who will learn Jane's secret? HollywoodLife.com got all the scoop from creator April Blair! The tables officially turn on the July 31 summer finale of Jane By Design, with Billy (Nick Roux) now having to choose between girlfriend Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) and best-friend Jane (Erica Dasher). But creator April Blair tells HollywoodLife.com that Billy's big decision is just one of many major moments we can anticipate, along with Jane's two worlds colliding to the point where "everything is put in jeopardy." Here's what I learned: 1. Are Eli & Jane officially over? Well, it depends on how you look at it. Yes, Eli (Bryan Dechart) slept with India (India de Beaufort) last week, but April suggests we take a step back and examine both sides of the situation. "Jane and Eli have only been on one date," she explains. "One date and one kiss.

Plus, Jane says goodbye to two major people in her life! What will she do next? Jane (Erica Dasher) finally had her first real date with Eli (Bryan Dechart) on the July 17 episode of Jane By Design, and it was perfect — minus the part where Jane spilled red wine all over Nina Garcia and had to leave the fanciest restaurant in town wearing a table cloth for a dress. Other than that... perfect. Fortunately Jane was able to fix that little problem all on her own, because Billy (Nick Roux) was a little busy sticking his foot in his mouth. He overheard Zoe and Nick (Matt Atkinson) running lines for the play, but thought they were having a serious conversation, which led to a super-awkward moment for the three of them. Zoe got mad at Billy for not trusting her, but um... isn't the one who already lied to him about where she lived?...

Someone liked it — and definitely wants to put a ring on it. As if Jane's life wasn't complicated enough! Jane's (Erica Dasher) fairy tale life almost came crashing down around her — once again — on the July 10 episode of Jane By Design when her mom (Teri Hatcher) decided to whip up an online dating profile for Gray (Andie MacDowell), following the news that Beau has found himself a much younger fiancée. And, of course, India (India de Beaufort) was somehow able to manipulate Kate's kind gesture in yet another attempt to oust Gray from the company. Sneaky little India set up a fake date for Gray, as well as a surprise meeting with one of Donovan Decker's biggest competitors. The plan was simple: Gray would show up for her date, bump into the competitor, India would snap a picture, and everyone would think Gray was jumping ship. But there was one...

If you're one of those Jane By Design fans who's desperately waiting for Jane (Erica Dasher) and Billy (Nick Roux) to proclaim their true feelings for one another, your wait is... far from over, thanks to a certain gentleman named Eli (Bryan Dechart). Erica tells HollywoodLife.com that Jane and Eli "do finally go on a date," but of course, it's not without its complications. "There is the matter of the age difference, which obviously hasn't been addressed yet," Erica points out, adding that Eli and Jane "really take a liking to each other. ... Yes, Jane's long-lost mom is finally back — direct from Wisteria Lane! This may not have been Jane's (Erica Dasher) best birthday ever, but it was definitely the most surprising. Not only did she learn the truth about the Donovan Decker mole on the June 19 episode of Jane By Design, but she also discovered intense new feelings for a certain co-worker. Oh, and did I mention her mom (Teri Hatcher) came back to surprise her? Happy birthday, indeed. Eli (Bryan Dechart) was tasked with distracting Jane while preparations for her office surprise party were underway, but it didn't take long for the line between business and pleasure to blur. I know we're supposed to want Jane to end up with Billy (Nick Roux), but there's no way you can deny the chemistry between Jane and Eli — and apparently neither can Eli. He asked her out on a real date...

Plus, another fan-favorite couple takes a serious hit! Worst Valentine's Day ever. Jane (Erica Dasher) got a taste of fame on the June 12 episode of Jane By Design when she was photographed alongside Donovan Decker's latest high-profile client, but her new celeb status caused major problems for her friendship with Billy (Nick Roux). And while Billy was crushed at first, his budding relationship with new-girl Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) provided just the distraction he needed. Meanwhile, India (India de Beaufort) and Gray (Andie MacDowell) continued to draw their battle lines this week — and they each came prepared with a secret weapon. Gray tried to use India's relationship with Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) to manipulate her, while India used Gray's jealousy of Eli (Bryan Dechart) to manipulate him. Plus, a handsome new face turns Jane's world upside down. God, I've missed this show! Two months have passed since Billy (Nick Roux) all-but-confessed his love to Jane (Erica Dasher), and when Jane By Design returned June 5, viewers basically found themselves in an alternate universe. Ben (David Clayton Rogers) was helping Jane keep her big secret, Nick (Matthew Atkinson) was in a full-on relationship with Lulu (Meagan Tandy), and India (India de Beaufort) was... well... I'll get to her later. The episode began with Jane and Billy's highly anticipated reunion — he'd been locked away in a juvenile detention camp, but thankfully, his gravity defying hair didn't suffer for it — and he and Jane finally had "the talk." Well, sort of. Billy pretty much avoided the subject until the final moments of the episode, when he totally lied and said Jane was his best friend and he didn't want that to change.

At least, he tries to! What did you think of the episode's epic final moment? The spring finale of Jane By Design was a night of ups and downs for our boy Billy (Nick Roux). It began with him getting bailed out of jail and sentenced to several months at a youth detention facility, but ended with the jaw-dropping confession we've waited 10 long weeks to hear. So are he and Jane (Erica Dasher) going to live happily ever after? Yeah, right. Like it would ever be that easy. Billy's confession -- curiously inspired by his hot-yet-troubled brother Tommy -- was interrupted by Jane's hot-yet-misguided co-worker Jeremy (Rowly Dennis), who was just about tell Jane the same thing before he himself was interrupted by a text message from Gray's (Andie MacDowell) hot-yet-evil ex-husband Beau. Oh, did I mention that Jeremy has been leaking Donovan Decker's designs to Beau this whole time?...

Everyone got what they deserved on the Feb. 21 episode of 'Jane By Design,' and I'm now a proud member of Team Jane. My Jane By Design recaps typically include a list of all the ways that Jane (Erica Dasher) ruined the lives of her friends and family on any given week -- but believe it or not, the Feb. 21 episode actually found our plucky little fashionista using her powers for good. Not only did she bring Nick (Matthew Atkinson) and Billy (Nick Roux) closer together, but she also saved Jeremy's (Rowly Dennis) job! Oh, and did I mention she took down India (India de Beaufort) in the process? And while India may remain completely clueless after her little investigation, Jeremy is now all kinds of suspicious. Meanwhile, in an attempt to stop people from judging his unique look, Billy (Nick Roux) ditched his faux-hawk and skinny jeans for a new style that Jane described as "preppy/douchey." ‘Jane By Design’ Recap: Irresponsible Jane Gets Billy In Trouble — Again
Do you agree that Jane is taking advantage of the doormats in her life, or am I being too harsh? Jane's (Erica Dasher) entire life was turned upside down on the Jan. 31 episode of Jane By Design when she misplaced the Donovan Decker's coveted look book -- and when the dust settled, I was left asking myself one very important question: Why do the guys in Jane's life continue to put up with all of her crap? Join me as I go guy-by-guy, assessing the damage Jane has inflicted upon the gentlemen in her life. Billy: The viewers are being led to believe that Billy (Nick Roux) and Jane's friendship will eventually become more than platonic, but as it stands, he's fully committed to Lulu (Meagan Tandy) -- yet Billy was willing to take an entire week of detention as punishment for skipping class to help Jane find her missing book.

Plus, Jane's going to have to decide: Dream job, or dream guy? Remember last week when I was thrilled that Jane's (Erica Dasher) luck finally ran out on Jane By Design, thereby proving she's really human? Well, her ridiculous luck was back in full swing on the Jan. 24 episode, as she and Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) teamed up to convince the editor in chief of Modern Empress magazine to feature Donovan Decker's design on her next cover. As it turns out, all the Eic really needed in her life was a little fun -- and that fun came in the form of a big, fat cheeseburger. But Jane's calorie-fest wast handsomely interrupted by Nick (Matthew Atkinson), who nearly blew Jane's whole I'm-really-a-high-school-student secret in front of Jeremy. That crisis quickly took a back seat, however, when Jane realized Nick was on a date with some skanky rando.

Every once in a while a television series comes along and whisks you off your feet. Jane By Design is that show. Debuting last week, the show’s premiere episode was charming, adorable and made you wish you were in Jane’s shoes as she landed an executive assistant position at a top ranked fashion design company. It is any 16-year old girl’s dream come true: to get their dream job and a chance at their dream guy too. But in Jane Quimby’s (Erica Dasher) world, you’d have to figure out who exactly is your dream guy as Jane has three potential dream men in her life.
The story of a young teen who applies for a coveted fashion design internship and somehow lands an even more desirable job as executive assistant to Gray Chandler Murray (Andie MacDowell) at Donovan Decker, an elite fashion design company, is...

Will you be making room on your DVR for 'Jane By Design?' Tell us what you think of ABC Family's newest series! When we first met Jane Quimby (Erica Dasher) in the first few minutes of Jane By Design, she was a hapless, hopeless high school student with seemingly impossible dreams -- but by the end of the Jan. 3 series premiere, she was a super-confident lady with a penchant for identity fraud. Of course, Jane could never have completed her journey from small-town duckling to big-city swan without a little help. Thanks to one incredibly under-qualified human resources employee, Jane's interview for an internship at NYC fashion house Donovan Decker turned into an interview for the executive assistant position to head honcho Gray Murray (Andie MacDowell.) Though she only communicated with Jane via satelitte -- she spends most of her time in Thailand, apparently -- Gray proved...

Irt: Deadliest Roads - Blu-ray Review
I am a reality television fiend when it comes to Ice Road Truckers.
Yes, there is no ice this time around but that doesn’t make this series any less thrilling. Missing a few episodes when it aired and then just waiting for the chance to see all the episodes all at once when it hit Blu-ray this was really well worth the wait. For those of us who enjoy series like this Irt: Deadliest Roads does not disappoint.
Instead of cold driving truck drivers going across snowy strips of ice we’ve got a trio of drivers making their way on some of the most sinister roads in India. Brimming with genuine humor and the...

The cast/rockers of The Disney Channel original film "Lemonade Mouth" are basking in the wild success of not only the movie, but the music itself.
Since the movie's April 15th release on The Disney Channel, the film has become cable's No. 1 original movie of 2011 and has reached over 20 million total viewers. The soundtrack recently hit No. 1 on iTunes and No. 4 on the Billboard 200 top album chart, ranking right up there with Adele, "Glee" and Foo Fighters. Not bad company to be in.
Zap2it spoke with the cast of "Lemonade Mouth" including Bridgit Mendler, Adam Hicks, Hayley Kiyoko, Blake Michael, Nick Roux and Chris Brochu, as they prepared to meet with fans and sign some autographs at Downtown Disney Event on Monday (May 2).
So with the roaring success of what we hope becomes a franchise for the Mouse House, is there a sequel in the works?
Among a chorus of "Hopefully!
