Mother Mary emigrated from Galway, Ireland in 1951. She worked as a waitress.

Quit her job as a receptionist at a nursing home for an entry-level job at the NYC tv station WPIX.

Father James Thomas Murphy, born 1925 in County Mayo, Ireland emigrated to the US in September 1948. He became a city bus driver.

Oldest of four children.

Graduated from CUNY-Queens College in 1981.

Lived at 32-25 58th Street in Woodside, Queens, New York before her parents bought a house in Queens Village in 1965.
