Horror for some people is comforting like the warmth of the Universal monsters and others. Nothing wrong with that at all as I can respect the past however the other side is the horror that makes you feel uncomfortable.
The Canadian Soska Sisters have once again proven that Canadian storytellers are more than the work of David Cronenberg. In what I think is their best and most dangerous work since the overlooked American Mary (2012) you have the subversive On The Edge (2022) which is actually an exercise in sadism/masochism with loads of devilry, nudity, sex, and kink.
The film begins with a wide shot of an affluent area where politician Senator Coleman (Mackenzie Gray) is preaching on Television about outlawing pornography. Sounding of course like many of the actual people which will become more apparent at the end. Claire (Sylvia Soska dyed a fetching blonde) is making breakfast for her...

Time for a first look at a new horror. An early promo teaser trailer has debuted for an indie horror film titled On the Edge, playing this weekend at the FrightFest Halloween event in the UK for its world premiere. The film is the the sixth feature, and third original project, from Canadian filmmakers / twins Jen & Sylvia Soska, known as the Soska Sisters. It's also technically their first psychological erotic thriller. On the Edge stars Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, who also wrote, directed, and produced this. The film also stars Aramis Sartorio, Ola Dada, Andrea Jin, Brianna, and Alanna Finn-Morris, Ivan Decker, Mackenzie Gray, Sophie Buddle. Family man Peter gets more than he paid for when he books a 36-hour session with the sadistic "Mistress Satana" who seems more intent on making him suffer for his sins. Sounds freaky, for sure. And kinky. But is that all there is to the film?...

Earlier this week, news broke that filmmaking duo Jen & Sylvia Soska (American Mary, Rabid) are back with the brand new movie On the Edge, which is set to World Premiere at Frightfest Halloween. Now Bloody Disgusting is serving up the official trailer.
In the film…
“Family man Peter (Aramis Sartorio) gets more than he paid for when he books a 36-hour session with the sadistic Mistress Satana (Jen Soska) who seems more intent on making him suffer for his sins. Is it blackmail? Is it torture? Or is it the Devil come for his soul? Will Peter’s faith save him from his own personal Hell or is he already damned? A brilliant depiction of how Kink Culture can heal past trauma and be a source for shocking redemption.”
The cast also includes Sylvia Soska as Claire, Ola Dada as the desk clerk, Andrea Jin as the maid, Brianne Finn-Morris as Tori,...

I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that I’m reviewing a movie called Death Rider in the House of Vampires or that, after Verotika, somebody put up money for Glenn Danzig to make another movie. But here we are.
As the film opens Death Rider is riding through a desert filled with warning signs and crucified bodies. He leads another horse, with a bound, topless woman on it. She is his entrance fee to Sanctuary, one female virgin. She looks like she probably couldn’t remember when she actually was a virgin but that’s besides the point.

Arriving in theaters and on digital platforms everywhere today is Sylvia and Jen Soska’s remake of Rabid, which follows an aspiring fashion designer named Rose (Laura Vandervoort), who is involved in a terrible accident that leaves her horribly scarred and unable to adapt to her new circumstances. She decides to participate in a radical stem cell treatment that not only cures her, but transforms Rose in unimaginable ways that leaves a trail of victims in her wake.
Daily Dead recently had the chance to speak with The Soska Sisters about taking on Rabid and their approach to the material (which was incredibly forward-thinking for its time), and how they wanted to make sure they represented David Cronenberg’s legacy in their latest feature film. Canada’s horror auteur twins, the Soska Sisters, remade their idol David Cronenberg’s earliest and grisliest film.
Canadian filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska have been delivering artistic haymakers since they started their careers. It was back then that they self-financed, wrote, directed and starred in the the delicately titled Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Since then, they’ve also created their best and most acclaimed movie to date, American Mary (2012), while also directing a segment for The ABCs of Death 2 (2014), and two movies for WWE Films, the slasher sequel See No Evil 2 (2014) and the action thriller Vendetta (2015).
Their movies are marked by a decidedly feminist point-of-view as well as a gleeful, often outrageous use of gore and visceral horror, so it’s no surprise that they have now taken on the risk of remaking Rabid, one of the early films by their idol and fellow Canadian,...

After their second feature, American Mary, exploded on to the horror scene, Canadians writer/directors Jen and Sylvia Soska were crowned the queens of body horror. Now, some seven years after that film debuted, the sisters return to the body horror genre, taking on a remake of Rabid, a film originally helmed by the King of body horror himself – and a fellow Canadian – David Cronenberg.
However; before you all start decrying remakes and reboots, this particular take on the sexually-charged blood-lust feeding, rabies-ravaged killer-creating story is a far cry from Cronenberg’s. In fact, apart from a nod or two (including a brilliant visual reference to Dead Ringers) to the work of the man behind the likes of The Fly, this film could be...

A71 Entertainment has taken the Canadian rights to the Soska sisters' remake of David Cronenberg 1977 classic horror movie Rabid.

Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde and John Vidette of Back 40 Pictures are producing the updated film that revolves around Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical untested stem-cell treatment. One of my favorite things to do during the Halloween season is to go to haunted houses, spook alleys, and haunted mazes. I just have a ton of fun at these things, especially the independent ones outside of the big theme park haunted attractions.
I've found that with the independent Halloween horror experiences, they put a lot more heart and grit into the haunted houses that they set up. Today we have a trailer for a documentary that focuses on these hardcore Halloween fans. It's called Haunter: The Art of the Scare and it puts a major focus on some of the most extreme scare experiences, where they simulate peoples fears in the most crazy and intense ways. Here's the synopsis:
Haunters: The Art Of The Scare is a heart-warming and heart-stopping documentary about how family-friendly haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a growing subculture of extreme horror simulations. What...

Xx is something we have mentioned back in 2013, which included a different line-up. Now, ahead of the Sundance 2017 premiere, we get a trailer to tease us on what we’re going to get!
Xx is a new all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark (St. Vincent) rocks her directorial debut with The Birthday Party; Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Girlfight) exorcises Her Only Living Son; Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound) screams Don’T Fall; and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird) dares to open The Box. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (La Casa Triste) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk.
Hopefully, most of you reading this should be familiar with the talent behind the camera. Annie Clark is marking this project with her directorial debut but she is also known as St. Vincent.

It's hard to believe that my favorite horror movie of 2013 is already 4 years old (yep, that's how math works)!
The Soska sisters are having a celebration for the 4th anniversary of American Mary that might interest fans. Including a give away for budding filmmakers who what to submit an American Mary "Swede" film!
Don't know what that is? Well, let Jen Soska explain it in the press release below. Good luck!

Genre is a close-knit community. The independent filmmakers behind the bloody and wonderfully weird genre films rely on a small, dedicated fan base who respond to good filmmaking that pushes boundaries. Yet so much of this work exists outside of the mainstream, prompting us to ask the question: How do genre fans keep up with the latest films and filmmakers? IndieWire checked in with genre fans and hunted around the internet to find the answers.

In this sense, genre films are like other independent films, premiering at a handful of festivals with trusted curation can be the perfect platform to launch a movie. And while a number of films that draw from both the arthouse and genre tradition — for example “The Witch,...

Jessica Chastain is one of the most in-demand actress working today, and has a slew of dramatic parts (including next year’s Woman Walks Ahead) in the works, but now we’re hearing that she’s also attached to star in and produce a big screen adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada’s comic series, Painkiller Jane. Chastain will play the lead role of Jane Vasko, a tough New York beat cop who develops incredible healing abilities.
Painkiller Jane was created back in the ’90s and although she’s never been a mainstream character, she has crossed over with the likes of The Punisher, Hellboy and Vampirella. There was also a short-lived Sci-Fi channel TV series based on Miss Vasko’s exploits in 2007 which starred Terminator 3 actress Kristanna Loken.
Here’s how Deadline describes this latest incarnation:

Coming close to death gave her the power to be unstoppable. New York City police officer Jane Vasko was nearly killed while undercover, but she bounced back as the vengeful Painkiller Jane in the comic book series of the same name. While a film adaptation has been in the works for quite some time, it now looks like Jessica Chastain will bring the lead role to life.
Deadline reports that Chastain is set to produce and play the starring role in Painkiller Jane. Producing the project alongside Chastain's Freckle Films will be Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films, with Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian and Jimmy Palmiotti on board as executive producers (Palmiotti also co-wrote the comic book series with Joe Quesada).

Anyone familiar with the work of Jen and Sylvia Soska knows the identical twin filmmakers owe more than a small debt to the early and mid-career oeuvre of David Cronenberg. Like the acclaimed director, the Soskas are both Canadian natives and specialize in "body horror," the sub-genre exploiting viewers' innate fears of physical disfigurement that was practically invented (or at least taken to a more outré level) by Cronenberg. Over the course of his career, Cronenberg gave us such squeamish classics as 1975's high-rise horror show Shivers, 1983's surreal Videodrome, and the uber-grisly 1986 remake of The Fly. Given these similarities, it's fitting that the Soskas -- arguably best known for their intensely gory body-modification horror film American Mary -- are currently in the process of remaking Cronenberg's 1977 movie Rabid, which starred pornographic film actress Marilyn Chambers as a woman who develops a taste for human blood after undergoing experimental plastic surgery.

Morehorror.com sat down with Wren Walker, star of the upcoming horror film Peelers, to talk about the film.
Jonathan Weichsel: So, you have a new movie out called Peelers. I watched the trailer this afternoon and it looks awesome. I know you star in it. Care to tell me about your character?
Wren Walker: You liked the teaser? Awesome!! I play Blue Jean Douglas, a baseball loving former stripper turned owner of Titty Balls, a strip club in a nowhere town. She's tough as hell.
Jonathan Weichsel: Sounds awesome! I know you beat out two hundred other actresses for the role. What was the audition process like?
Wren Walker: I was literally the last girl to audition. I found the ad on Craigslist and was stoked to see if I could be in a horror movie, since I'm a huge fan of the genre myself.

However, a revolution has been quietly brimming beneath the surface, with more and more women stepping behind the camera as of late and genre films leading the way in this massive reconstruction. Game changers like Jennifer Kent, Marjane Satrapi and Veronika Franz have been stepping up and proving themselves as not only worthy contenders when it comes to noteworthy women who make movies, but equally as skilled as any male photographer.
