- Amar Kaushik is a famous actor and director in the Indian film industry. He is well-known for writing and directing his award-winning short movie Aaba (2017) in 2017. His father was a forest ranger in Arunachal Pradesh, while his mother was a school teacher.
Kaushik moved to Kanpur, U.P., with his family when he was 10 years old, after which they moved to Delhi. He graduated in mass communication from Delhi, after which he moved to Mumbai in 2009.
He entered the Hindi film industry and started his career as an assistant director for the movie Aamir (2008).
Kaushik played small roles in movies like No One Killed Jessica (2011), Go Goa Gone (2013), and Ghanchakkar (2013). Besides, he has also worked as an assistant director for prominent filmmakers like Raj Kumar Gupta and Onir.
With Onir, he worked as an assistant director for movies like Sorry Bhai! (2008), I Am (2010), and Night (2017).
His short movie Aaba (2017) won him a special prize from "the Generation KPlus International Jury" at the Berlin International Film Festival. The movie also won the National Award in the category 'Best Short Fiction'. Aaba was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
He has also worked with the Iranian film director Majid Majidi as an assistant director for the movie Beyond the Clouds (2017).
His most popular movies are Stree (2018) and Bala (2019). Stree became a blockbuster hit and earned Rs. 125.57 crores in the first 7-10 months. The movie starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.
For Stree, he won the best debut director at the Filmfare Awards in 2019.
His other popular movie Bala, starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar, and Yami Gautam.
