In 2009 Tom wrote and directed a short docu-Drama about a Scottish headmaster living in Nepal, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the Royal Television Society Awards, as well as Best UK Graduate film at the Ffresh film awards. In 2010, he wrote and directed a short Cardiff-based film that went on to win the Welsh Royal Television Society Award for Best Entertainment in February. It was also shortlisted in the final three at the national Royal Television Society Awards, out of over 300 entrants.
Tom wrote and directed a number of short films over the next few years, while working as a film editor for various clients including BBC Wales. His third short film entitled 'The Reading', which was accepted into the Cannes Short Film Corner and shortlisted for Best Narrative Short at the Cardiff Mini Film Festival. It was also shortlisted at the International Film Festival of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles and selected for the Spring Showcase of the first American Online Film Festival. In 2017, his short film Laura was shortlisted at Los Angeles Cinefest 2017 and Cardiff Mini Film Festival 2017. He went on to direct an indie sci-fi feature film Expiry which is now streaming on Amazon Prime in the UK, and was released by Cinedigm on Apple TV in North America. The film was shortlisted at Boston Sci-fi Film Festival among others.
Alongside filmmaking, Tom is an electronic music producer and composer. His soundtracks have been shortlisted at International Sound and Film Music Festival (ISFMF) in Croatia, and his soundtrack for Expiry won a Global Music Award. In 2020 during the pandemic, he wrote, directed and composed a short film called Peace, which has been selected at numerous festivals including ISFMF, The European and Asian Cinematography Awards, L'HIFF Barcelona, ME Film Festival and Kalakari Film Festival among others.
He is currently in pre-production and seeking investment for another Sci-Fi feature film.
