Today’s film is the 2010 short The Girl is Mime. The film is directed by Tim Bunn, who also co-wrote it, and stars Daniel Caren, Jennifer Short, and Martin Freeman. Freeman rose to prominence as Tim Canterbury in the UK version of the television show The Office before breaking into film with leading roles in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He will reprise his role as Bilbo Baggins this year in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, as well as appearing in a supporting role in The World’s End.

Check out this wonderfully fun short film called The Girl is Mime, with The Hobbit star Martin Freeman as a Mime being questioned about the murder of his wife. 

Did the mime commit the crime? Clive Buckle is being questioned about the murder of his wife. Interrogation brings back a slew of memories, some good, some bad...some sexy. The police are convinced he did it, they just need a weapon; but Clive's saying nothing.

The film was made for the London 48 Hour Film Project, 2010. We funded it entirely ourselves, hence why we have included the little 'Tip Jar' button... don't feel you have to though, we won't go hungry or anything. However, if you laughed, it's a £1,000 minimum.

Martin Freeman has starred in a new short film titled The Girl Is Mime. The Hobbit actor features as a mime artist who is accused of murdering his wife in the six-minute project from filmmaker Tim Bunn. The film was made two years ago for the 48 Hour Film Contest. They previously worked together on the charity film HIV: The Musical. Bunn said that Freeman "very generously gave us his Saturday" after being asked by a mutual friend. "Initially we were a little bit worried about telling him, in case he wasn't keen," Bunn told The Hollywood Reporter. "But he wasn't fazed at all. I think he enjoyed the challenge of having very little time to produce a brilliant and believable character. He'd literally just found out that he was going to play Bilbo, so he was going to have to get used to time in the make-up chair." (more)...

Sure, he's about to be vaulted into superstardom, but if the movie offers ever start to run dry, it's good to know that Martin Freeman has a pretty decent backup career option.
