Avengers: Endgame begins with Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) witnessing the devastating loss of his family following Thanos' "Snap" in the closing moments of Infinity War, but it seems Marvel Studios originally had a different opening sequence in mind for the Infinity Saga finale.
EW has shared some new concept art from the Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding book by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, and it highlights some designs for an alternate opening scene with Smart Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) saving a bunch of people from a burning building.
It seems the plan was for the Green Goliath to be the only active members of the team at one point.
"As all the Avengers were gone, he was going to be the only one left, and you got to see him do some amazing things," Meinerding says in the book. "Hulk jumping off the building to save people inside...

The design of The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man proved to be somewhat unpopular, so when it was revealed that the character would be returning for Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans had hoped that Marvel would give the villain a comic-accurate redesign.
As we know, The Lizard looked pretty much the same in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Marvel Studios’ Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding explained why in Spider-Man: No Way Home – The Art of the Movie (via ComicBookMovie.com). “We’re looking to pull a character from another film and have this audience believe it’s that same character,” Meinerding said. “If we change it too much, if we’re changing bone structure, it doesn’t feel like it’s the character from that other movie, and we’ve lost the magic of The Multiverse.“

Concept art for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reveals the original design for Illuminati Strange. Released in May 2022, the sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange introduced many new universes thanks to newcomer America Chavez's (Xochitl Gomez) multiverse-jumping powers. In one of the most intriguing universes visited by Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and America, referred to as Earth-838, a variant of Strange had served as part of the Illuminati, the most powerful team of superheroes to exist in that world until he was corrupted by the Darkhold and willingly executed.
Visual artist Ian Joyner Art posted concept art of Illuminati Strange's epic original design via Instagram, offering a closer look at the character, who only appeared briefly in the film.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" was one hell of a ride, as were the Marvel Studios announcements from D23 Expo that took place earlier this month. While no updates were made at the semi-annual convention regarding Thor's next movie, we still got to see the extensive creative process that each film undergoes before it arrives in theaters.
If you did miss "Love and Thunder" in theaters, then we have good news for you: the film finally arriving soon on Blu-ray. Sure, Taika Waititi's newest take on the Asgardian God of Thunder is currently streaming on Disney+, but we here at /Film love a good piece of physical media, and this upcoming 4K steelbook being sold exclusively at Best Buy is no exception. The art for this release is outstanding, and it's got everything you need or could ever want from "Love and Thunder"; Thor in casual clothes, Jane as The Mighty Thor,...

The first few phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had paved the way for the official entrance of Thanos into the story. With a thirst for power, mingled with the belief that he had to set the universe straight, he didn’t care who had to die so that he could achieve his goal.
In fact, in the first few minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, we see his cronies slaughter the remnants of Asgard. And Thanos himself defeats the Hulk with nothing but his own brute strength. His attitude and sheer power would no doubt strike fear into any foe.
Apart from his physical attributes though, the Mad Titan’s militaristic mindset is fascinated with a variety of weaponry. From flashbacks, we understand that a key object representing the relationship between Gamora and Thanos is the double-bladed dagger he gifted to her as a child.

Avengers: Endgame treated audiences to two separate versions of Thanos. We got to see the surprising yet logical conclusion of the Infinity War Thanos’ story, showing the injured Titan peacefully tending his crops before being beheaded by Thor. But providing the muscle for the finale was a past version of him at the very top of his game, leading an army against the heroes of Earth and wielding a ferocious double-bladed sword capable of slicing through Captain America’s vibranium shield.
I thought that sword was a fantastic weapon for this version of the character, acting as a visual metaphor for his all-out aggression. But a new piece of concept art has revealed that the double-edged sword wasn’t the only weapon planned for the Mad Titan. Artist Ian Joyner (who described Endgame as a ‘dream project’) shared some images on Twitter showing Thanos carrying a threatening-looking battle axe, and...

The Indominus Rex, InGen’s crowning achievement and, simultaneously, its worst nightmare, was an incredibly intelligent dinosaur hybrid that fused together DNA from the regular ol’ Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, cuttlefish, tree frogs, and a pit viper to create a rampaging killing machine of epic proportions. Otherwise known as I. Rex – or, the “fierce and untameable king” – the Indominus was arguably the one true antagonist of Jurassic World, and it turns out the creative minds at Universal once considered some radically alternate designs for the man-made beast.
First spotted by ScreenGeek, concept artist Ian Joyner has shared a scrapped render that painted Indominus in a completely new light. Bolstered by that cuttlefish DNA, the I. Rex is able to use camouflage to blend in with its surrounding environment – hence the ash-grey skin color of the final design – but down below, you’ll be able...

Concept artist Ian Joyner recently posted a 3D model of Adam Warlock's Cocoon that was featured at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. You can check it out below. This gives us more of an up close look at the cocoon and it actually looks kind of frightening. it has a very creepy look and vibe. Now that I have a close up look at the design it almost looks like parts of the design were inspired by the work of Hr Giger, who played a huge role in creating the visual style for the Alien films. This thing gives off a pretty creepy vibe. When talking about the piece, the artist said:
"I did a lot of passes on the Cocoon for the end tag of guardians (Spoilers!), which was a lot of fun as I always loved when they showed up in the cosmic books from Marvel!

All hail the queen of Atlantis!
The first glimpse of Amber Heard in costume for the upcoming Justice League movie — in which she plays Mera, queen of Atlantis and love interest of Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman — has finally been revealed.
Concept art for the character, as well as a still photo of Heard in full Atlantean gear, was shared by IGN on Wednesday. In the still photo, the outfit’s green scales and ornate crown come to life from the illustration. Mera’s look was created by costume designer Michael Wilkinson and illustrator Ian Joyner.

Rhys Ifans looked really cool as The Lizard in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, but before Webb and his team settled on the look that was used in the film, Ian Joyner came up with a number of different concept pieces that weren’t selected. Amd some of them are very cool. Now, thanks to the magic of the internet (which is the world’s greatest repository for awesome things, it seems), we can see some of those concept pieces that were passed over. What’s interesting about a few of the designs that got rejected by Team Webb is how they really play up the lizard angle of the character. Several of these images make Ifans’ Dr. Curt Connors more of a reptile than a man – and we imagine that’s why they weren’t used. Part of what makes the...

I kind of feel bad for Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans). As you know, in The Amazing Spider-Man Connors transforms into The Lizard. And yes he goes about doing terrible things, like killing Gwen's father Captain Stacy (Denis Leary), but let's be honest this is all Peter's (Andrew Garfield) fault. If Peter didn't get all nosy, prying into his father's briefcase, he wouldn't have found the newspaper clipping of his dad with his old colleague Dr. Curt Connors and he wouldn't have found the decay rate algorithm. This then sets off the chain of events that lead Connors to become a Goomba from Super Mario Brothers. Shame on you Peter. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. For fans of "The Hunger Games," perhaps the only disappointment in the mega-blockbuster film adaptation are the muttations — you know, those dog things that chase the remaining tributes at the end of the movie. Well, now we know exactly how creepy it could have been, as "Hunger Games" concept artist Ian Joyner has revealed his original designs for these terrifying man-monsters.
One warning, though: once you see these horrors, you can't ever unsee them.
"Tasked with designing the 'muttations,' the idea was that these creatures were the fallen children brought back as horrible mockeries of themselves, forcing the survivors to deal with old friends and foes in a whole new way," Joyner explains on his website. "Here is just a small sample of the work I did on the film, from the very first pitch to the 'final' design. Sadly, it appears they've changed the designs pretty drastically later in film production.

As expected, "Iron Man 2" came in as the number one film this weekend, thoroughly manhandling its competitors with $128.1M over its first 72 hours. With those numbers, the Jon Favreau directed film now has the fifth-highest opening weekend of all time.
Taking the runner-up spot in its second week was the horror flick "A Nightmare on Elm Street", finishing at $9.1M compared to last week's box office topping $32.1M. "Nightmare" was followed by the 3D animated film "How to Train Your Dragon", which at $6.7M crossed the all important $200M domestic threshold.
So can "Iron Man 2" keep its hold on the number one spot? Well, it's likely, but let's not jump to conclusions. Not to be left out of the conversation is the Ridley Scott film "Robin Hood", which rides in on the star power of oscar winner Russell Crowe. This marks the fifth time the actor/director duo have teamed up.

If you’ve ever had the privilege to be on a major motion picture set, you know just how much work goes on behind-the-scenes to bring a film to life. When that film is Iron Man 2, you can pretty much multiply that effort by 10. Speaking with Shane Mahan, Dave Merrit, and Ian Joyner, the Making Of featurette goes into great detail on what went into creating the suits, some of the differences from the armor in the first Iron Man film, and which one of the pieces of armor was the most fun to build. Bear…
