Neil Forbes graduated from the United States Military Academy at West
Point in 2002. He served with the 101st Airborne Division as a rifle
platoon leader and mortar platoon leader in Mosul, Iraq during
Operation Iraqi Freedom I. He later served as the Presidential Marching
Platoon Leader in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and
led the Guard of Honor during the State Funeral of Former President
Gerald Ford. He left the Army in 2007 to pursue a Master of Fine Arts
in Film Directing at the University of California, Los Angeles. At
UCLA, he used film to explore a nation at war and the new breed of
America's veterans.
His first short film, 27, was selected by a Blue Ribbon Panel of industry professionals to screen as part of Directors Spotlight on the final night of UCLA's 2010 Festival of Creative Work.
27 was an official selection of the 2010 Carmel Art & Film Festival and was awarded Best Student Film.
