Mukilan Thangamani considers himself a proud third culture kid. He was born in India, grew up in Botswana and New Zealand, and now lives in Australia. He's a writer/director with a particular passion for screenwriting, has won several accolades for his feature film and TV specs, loves playing in the thriller/action space, and recently directed a proof-of-concept short for his award-winning feature spec Burner (2020).
His work in New Zealand has primarily been in the freelance space, working with indie producers and the New Zealand Film Commission. With the NZFC, he received development funding for multiple projects including 'Criminally Inclined' (a heist-comedy set against the backdrop of Singapore's night F1 race), and 'Lily Can't Come' (a project developed with kiwi filmmaker Roseanne Liang). Muki also works with the New Zealand Writers Guild as a screenwriting mentor for new voices.
