Six Major MCU Characters Recast: Reasons & Changes Explained (Photo Credit – Facebook)
The MCU is one of the biggest media franchises in the world. While all its movies and shows tell different stories, everything is connected in one franchise. Therefore, the MCU tries its best to retain the cast for their respective roles in whatever movie they work in. However, sometimes, the franchise is forced to recast some of its characters for multiple reasons.
Recasting a beloved character is no easy task; it requires balancing fan expectations while maintaining the continuity of the MCU’s expansive universe. Despite the risks, the MCU has handled these changes with impressive finesse, ensuring the story remains coherent and compelling. Over the years, Marvel has recast six characters in the franchise.

Kathryn Newton received the flak from fans last year for her role in the disappointing Ant-Man 3. But fans may have been a little too harsh on her after she just proved how much of a sweetheart she really is. After a photo of her with a fan was posted on social media, fans are now praising her for how she handled the fan’s request.

In the photo, the fan is seen carrying Newton in his arms. After her stint as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man 3, Newton made a comeback with her performance in the horror comedy film, Abigail. She also starred as the eponymous character in the Zelda Williams-directed film Lisa Frankenstein.

Abby Ryder Fortson's Cassie Lang is one of the best parts of Peyton Reed's first two "Ant-Man" films. 2015's "Ant-Man" introduces Cassie as an eight-year-old ball of energy who sees nothing but the best in her father, Paul Rudd's Scott Lang, even when the rest of the world dismisses him as an ex-con. She's also weird in a way that rings believable for a kid, nerding out over the "ugly" bunny doll Scott gifts her on her birthday.
The next time we see Cassie in 2018's "Ant-Man and the Wasp," she's grown up enough to have some thoughts on her dad's quasi-romantic relationship with his work buddy, Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne, but not so much as to strain credibility. These scenes rely heavily on Rudd and Fortson to work. Fortunately, their strong chemistry is more than enough to fully sell this father-daughter dynamic despite limited screen time.

Kathryn Newton is having the opposite of a quarter-life crisis. Never one to shy away from setting ambitious goals, she told herself that “if you don’t get to be a Marvel superhero by the age of 25, get something else going—don’t quit acting, but find something else, go back to college.” So what a birthday gift it is to hit that career milestone right under the wire: The actress, who has been working in Hollywood almost her entire life, will turn 26 while jetting between premieres for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, out Feb. 17.
Even though she’ll be boarding a red-eye to Toronto instead of blowing out candles, Newton feels very lucky to combine these personal and professional achievements. “If I’m promoting a movie or on a movie on my birthday,...

Marvel Studios has gotten pretty good at getting charismatic actors to play bit roles, while set against the stars playing an Avenger. The "Ant-Man" movies, especially, are loaded with folks you simply enjoy being around, such as fast-talker Luis (Michael Peńa) and the magic-curious Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park). Even with their short screen time, however, it's Abby Ryder Fortson who steals the show as Scott Lang's adorable daughter, Cassie. She loves weird things, has a great imagination, and sees her father for the hero he is.
When the Blip happened, however, it meant that Forston's time as the character was over. Cassie was suddenly five years older and played by Emma Fuhrmann, who would only show up in "Avengers: Endgame" before being recast once again with "Detective Pikachu" star Kathryn Newton. In "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," we're going to see how much Cassie has changed since the universe-altering event,...

Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is regular guy who happened to stumble headfirst into superherodom. That, uh, doesn't feel like a word, but you get the idea. He might have a suit that allows him to grow to the size of a skyscraper and shrink to the size of an ant, but he's no more inherently magical or fantastic than that Wi-Fi-enabled "Harry Potter" wand you bought to replace your TV remote with and then promptly forgot existed.
Despite this, his humanity is kind of the whole reason the "Ant-Man" movies work. Well, that and the fact that he's portrayed by Rudd, the living embodiment of harmless charm. Fortunately for us, Peyton Reed, the director of "Ant-Man," "Ant-Man and the Wasp," and the upcoming "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," understands this. More importantly, it seems like he's always understood this -- that beneath the façade of CGI and spandex, Scott's time...

The first reactions to "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" are here — and they are largely about the new villain. Everyone loves Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, who is being described as "excellent," "a force," and "fierce, yet nuanced." According to several critics, the 33-year-old actor "conquers," "kills it," "completely rules," and is "having the best time." Others believe Majors is "great as Kang," and Marvel Studios has "found the perfect actor." The new "Ant-Man" film is his second appearance in the role -- Kang is a variant of He Who Remains from "Loki" who needs access to Pym Particles to get out of the Quantum Realm, a subatomic dimension that was first introduced in "Ant-Man and the Wasp."
There's a significant amount of praise for Michelle Pfeiffer too, who returns as Janet van Dyne from "Ant-Man and the Wasp", the original Wasp lost in the Quantum Realm for three decades before she was rescued.

There came a day, a day unlike any other when Earth's Mightiest Heroes found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born. Unfortunately for Scott Lang in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," that day was not the day that he came face to face with Kang the Conqueror.

“The Good Place” and “Love Life” star William Jackson Harper has joined the cast of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” TheWrap has confirmed.
Marvel is keeping Harper’s role extremely top secret at the moment, which of course means that the majority of fans will assume he’s playing “Fantastic Four” leader Reed Richards. The film does, after all, feature Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, one of the oldest and bitterest enemies of the Fantastic Four.
And who are we to stop them? Harper has repeatedly proven he can credibly do high octane technospeak, sound like an intellectual and do “I don’t mean to be a jerk, but I keep accidentally doing it.” He also looks great with a beard and he’s the kind of skinny-ripped that could sell being extremely stretchy. And being so secretive about a relatively minor or anticlimactic role doesn’t make a lot of sense Qed,...

Before Jonathan Majors comes to blows with Michael B. Jordan in “Creed III,” Kang and Lang will face off in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”

Marvel Studios has dropped the first trailer for “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the titular characters and introducing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.
After helping save the universe in “Avengers: Endgame,” Lang is the most popular guy around in the new trailer. He’s walking red carpets with Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne and is named “Employee of the Century” by Baskin Robbins (but still gets called “Spider-Man” at a coffee shop by Netflix’s “I Think You Should Leave” breakout star Ruben Rabasa). The different phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to break up the existence of the Avengers as a group. Phase 1 was about building the Avengers into a team, culminating in them assembling and saving the world. Phase 2 was about the Avengers fortifying their world to the point that everyone seemed to be on the cusp of a happy ending…until Ultron happened. Phase 3 was about the repeated destruction of the Avengers, starting with political differences, then going to personal anger, being discarded by an alien threat they weren’t ready for, being reduced to ash by a cosmic wish, and finally being shattered by their greatest victory.
Phase 3 actually ended with the post-credits to Spider-Man: Far From Home in a perfectly fitting scene. Talos asked Nick Fury about the existence of the Avengers going forward and didn’t get any answer.

There are currently twelve movies, ten Disney Plus shows, two animated spinoffs and a holiday special in the works as the Marvel Cinematic Universe compensates for a completely barren 2020 by doubling down on a raft of fresh and exciting content for the big and small screen, and all 25 of these projects are set to arrive by the end of 2023.
That’s an awful lot of worldbuilding for an already expansive mythology, especially with so many new faces about to debut. In most cases, franchises getting bigger and bigger tends to result in a decline in quality as the focus shifts to spectacle over storytelling, but Kevin Feige has proven so adept at his job over the last dozen years that there’s nothing to indicate the McU will suffer a similar fate.

In terms of both stature and box office returns, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s smallest superhero. The Ant-Man movies are the lowest-grossing installments in the franchise to have been released since the end of Phase One, but they’re also a lot cheaper to produce than the majority of the McU’s comic book blockbusters, and aren’t all that interested in confronting the sort of potentially world-ending stakes that the rest of the Avengers usually deal with.
However, that might all change in the upcoming third outing, especially with Jonathan Majors confirmed as Kang the Conqueror. There’d been reports making the rounds that the project would start shooting next summer, and that appears to be the case now as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been officially announced for a 2022 release date.

Like Blade or Deadpool 3, Ant-Man 3 is one of a handful of upcoming McU movies that are definitely on the way but have yet to be given a release date. That suggests things are in flux with these projects right now. Considering that we initially thought there might not even be another film for Paul Rudd’s shrinking superhero, fans might be worrying if the Covid-19 outbreak could have caused plans for it to change or be hit by some kind of significant delay.
By the sounds of it, though, development on the threequel is progressing without any hitches. One fan questioned director Peyton Reed on how preparation on Ant-Man 3 was going on Twitter and the filmmaker – who’s helmed the whole Ant-Man trilogy, a rarity in the McU – replied: “Going well sir.”

Although Ant-Man 3 has yet to appear on any official Marvel Studios release schedule — except maybe for that big, years-spanning whiteboard in Kevin Feige’s office that we’ve all heard about — a script for the movie has been commissioned and a writer has been hired to pen it.
That writer is Jeff Loveness, who has been a co-producer and member of the writers’ room for the animated Rick & Morty series for much of the last year or so. Loveness got his start writing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! From 2011 to 2015, and his other credits include the Oscars, the Emmys and a stint on the TBS series Miracle Workers, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

McU star Evangeline Lilly’s dismissive comments about the coronavirus outbreak have caused a major controversy online, with the actress’ troubling attitude towards self-isolating and shocking belief that the pandemic is just a hoax riling up fans, with many demanding that Marvel remove her from the franchise at once. While they won’t be doing that – at least, not yet – due to contractual obligations, we have heard the studio will be reducing her role in Ant-Man 3.

Nobody likes wasps. They’re annoying creatures that contribute little of worth to the world. And now, nobody likes the Wasp.
Evangeline Lilly has spent the last week saying increasingly silly things about the Coronavirus pandemic. She first raised hackles when she posted on Instagram that she wasn’t observing social distancing and that life was still #businessasusual for her. That was already pretty annoying, but then she added insult to injury by saying that the pandemic was overblown and hinted that it might be some kind of hoax.
To people conscientiously following social distancing guidelines and imposing restrictions on their lives, let alone those who have lost loved ones to this pandemic, this was equivalent to her spitting in everyone’s faces. And with that came demands for Marvel Studios to fire her.

“So, I had gotten to Atlanta to film, and there was this gorgeous sunset,” Fuhrmann said in an interview with Comicbook.com.

In the lead-up to Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans were encouraged to marathon all of the previous McU movies to prepare themselves for the saga’s much-hyped culmination, and as it turns out, one of the film’s own cast members approached the production in much the same way.
Emma Fuhrmann took over from Abby Ryder Fortson in the role of Ant-Man’s daughter Cassie Lang. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actress admitted that she hadn’t seen a lot of Marvel movies prior to auditioning, so when she found out that the part was hers, she thought it best to catch herself up:
“Well, so I had only seen a few so when I got the part, I was just like, ‘Okay, homework time.’ I went to Wikipedia and printed out the order of all the Marvel movies, and I watched 20 something movies in order, to just...

Even by the standards of McU movies, the production of Avengers: Endgame was notoriously secretive – so much so, in fact, that one of the flick’s supporting players apparently got in trouble for an Instagram post that didn’t so much as mention the film.
In this year’s Avengers: Infinity War sequel, actress Emma Fuhrmann took over from Abby Ryder Fortson as the teenage Cassie Lang. For her scenes opposite Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Fuhrmann journeyed to Atlanta, where she took a seemingly harmless photo of a pretty-looking sunset. But as the actress explained in a recent interview with ComicBook.com, even the most innocent social media post could be regarded as a potential risk on the set of Endgame:

Spider-Man: Far From Home marks the McU's first post-Endgame film. Let's revisit the final chapter of the Infinity Saga one last time.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Endgame and the wider McU.
At this point, it almost seems redundant to say that expectations for a Marvel movie were high and, despite that, the resulting film still smashed them out of the park. But just to get that piece of admin out of the way: they were and it did.
With a solid decade of hype to justify, the burden on Avengers: Endgame was bigger than possibly any piece of blockbuster cinema ever released. The fact that the film itself is now ever-so-close to becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time is proof that it did what it needed to.

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was supposed to show up in Avengers: Endgame, but her role got cut. We now know who she played.
Warning: Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame ahead!
Avengers: Endgame certainly doesn’t need us, or anyone, to rhetorically butter its bread any further, having just passed $2 billion worldwide at the box office in only its second week. – It’s the biggest movie ever… ‘nuff said. However, for former 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford, who played a role in the film, Endgame will likely stand as a bittersweet CV entry, since her performance was left on the cutting room floor by directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who just revealed what character she played.
In an interview on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Russo Brothers finally confirmed Katherine Langford’s mystery role in Avengers: Endgame as Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan Stark, or more specifically,...

Avengers: Endgame hasn't come out yet, but we already have tons of questions, especially when it comes to the enigmatic timeline. Obviously, the movie's going to start some time after Infinity War. The real question is, exactly how much time has passed since, as the Internet so aptly puts it, The Snapture? It could be a couple of months, but some fans believe that it could be years. Here are key reasons why, after watching the new trailers, we think that there's probably a significant leap in time in Endgame.
Black Widow's hair change is a huge hint.
Hair is a big deal in the trailers. There's Hawkeye's infamous mohawk switch-up, of course, and then there's Black Widow's more telling ginger and blonde situation. At the beginning of the first trailer, Natasha's hair is icy blond and cropped short. This is her style throughout Infinity War, so it's...

Marvel fans are prepared for some big changes in the McU following Avengers: Endgame. We’ve been told repeatedly that the fourth Avengers movie will mark both the end of the first decade of the franchise and a new beginning for it. One obvious way to do that would be to totally revamp the team’s line-up, and if our intel’s correct, that’s apparently exactly what the studio’s got planned.
Sources close to We Got This Covered have confirmed that a New Avengers movie is in the early stages of development over at Marvel. Despite the title, the line-up being touted for the film is the group known as the Young Avengers in the comics – the next generation of heroes. Specifically, we’ve been informed that the rejuvenated roster will be made up of Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Hulkling, Iron Lad, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature and Vision (not...

While Ant-Man should be a recognizable character after his big-screen debut in 2015, his part in Captain America: Civil War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, one future superhero has been overlooked despite multiple appearances. As the daughter of Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, the role of Cassie Lang has so far been filled by Abby Ryder Fortson, but that may be changing soon. Reports claim that Emma Fuhrmann, who is seven years older than Fortson, will be taking over the character in Avengers: Endgame. An older Cassie Lang not only adds credence to the time travel theory behind the fourth Avengers film, but also reinforces the presumed appearance of her alter ego, Stature.

Who Is Stature?
As in the movie, longtime exposure to her dad's superhero life piques the interest of the comic book iteration of Cassie Lang.

Last Friday brought the surprise announcement that Katherine Langford had been added to the cast of Avengers 4 during the recent reshoots in an unspecified role. As the 13 Reasons Why actress is an upcoming star, it seems likely that Marvel have booked her in for the long run and her part in this massive production is just the planned first of many. So, with that in mind, who could she be playing?
Well, one common possibility that fans are discussing is that Langford might have been cast as Kate Bishop, Clint Barton’s apprentice and the third Hawkeye. We already know that Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as an older Cassie Lang/Stature in Avengers 4, so it makes sense that another of the Young Avengers would be introduced into the McU. Kevin Feige has also said that the next generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be seeded in the next few movies.

Now this is interesting.
The Wrap’s reporting that Katherine Langford has joined the cast of Avengers 4. Given that the upcoming film will be the culmination of over ten years of McU stories and looks like it’s set to wrap up the arcs of both Steve Rogers/Captain America and Tony Stark/Iron Man, it’s a pretty strange place to be adding someone new to the roster. This is bound to kick off a ton of speculation on who she’s going to be playing, too, so… well, let’s get to speculating!
Given that we’ve heard constant rumors that there’ll be a significant time jump in Avengers 4, I’m thinking she’ll be portraying an adult version of a character we currently know as a child. As far as I can see, that leaves just two options.

Hot on the trails of the release of Avengers: Infinity War, the second trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp arrived today and gave us our best look yet at the upcoming sequel starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the titular tiny vigilantes. One line that you might have missed, though, could potentially tease what’s to come beyond the film and even set up the arrival of a new hero in Avengers 4.
At around about the 0:08 mark (see above), we can hear Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie telling her father via voiceover: “I wish I could fight bad guys like you!” This isn’t just a cute moment which shows how much she looks up to her dad, but also alludes to Cassie’s development in the comics. The younger Lang follows in her father’s footsteps on the page and joins the Young Avengers in her teens,...

It’s long been theorized that Avengers 4 would have a time travel element. Set photos and videos have teased that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes might revisit moments from their past, allowing for the film to act as a kind of celebration of how far the McU has come over the past decade. And now, a new casting report suggests that the Avengers will travel to the future in order to meet the next generation of heroes.
According to That Hashtag Show, 16-year-old actress Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as Cassie Lang in Avengers 4. Avid Marvel viewers should recognize that name, as we previously met Cassie as Scott Lang’s young daughter in Ant-Man, as played by the 10-year-old Abby Ryder Fortson, who will reprise her role in this July’s Ant-Man and the Wasp as well. Other than the fact that Avengers 4 will focus on a group of new superheroes that we won't see much of in Avengers: Infinity War, like Ant-Man, The Wasp, Hawkeye, and Captain Marvel, we don't know much about what the story will entail. Sure, we all have our theories on what might happen, but today an interesting new clue has surfaced regarding Scott Lang's daughter Cassie Lang.
The Hashtag Show has confirmed, via their sources, that actress Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as an older version of Cassie. Scott Lang's daughter has been played by Abby Ryder Fortson in the Ant-Man and Ant-Man and The Wasp. She's supposed to be about six or seven years old in the sequel and Fuhrmann is significantly older than that.
We know that the story for Ant-Man and The Wasp is set right after the events of Civil War, but before the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

'Pixels' movie with Adam Sandler. 'Pixels' movie weekend box office: Adam Sandler vs. 'Ant-Man' Despite its underwhelming domestic box office debut last weekend, Marvel's Ant-Man may turn out to be the winner in North America this weekend (July 24–26, '15) thanks to another underwhelming debut: that of the Adam Sandler Pixels movie. According to weekend box office projections found at Variety, the Chris Columbus-directed Pixels is expected to open with $25 million from 3,723 locations – following a $10 million Friday take (including $1.5M from Thursday previews). If so, that'll place Adam Sandler's latest lowbrow comedy – now in 3D – on a par with Sandler domestic disappointments like Jack and Jill and Funny People. Deadline.com, for its part, is expecting $27-$28 million by Sunday evening. Sat., July 25, update: According to studio box office estimates, Pixels underperformed on Friday, taking in $9.2 million. That's below figures for Jack and Jill and, adjusted for...

If the phrase ‘Adam Sandler-starring romantic comedy’ doesn’t fill your heart with dread and terror then you’ve probably not been paying too much attention to film criticism in recent years. That’s okay, neither has Adam Sandler. The reviews are generally terrible and yet Sandler has rolled out at least one comedy every year since 1998, which is undeniably impressive. Presumably these films make money, else he wouldn’t be able to make them and therefore it’s logical to suggest that people are going to see them. It’s almost as if the general public couldn’t care less about critical opinion. Huh.

You know those real estate scams where you're offered a free vacation if you just sit through a time-share presentation and that time-share presentation seems never-ending, because even if it's just two hours, what you really wanted was a free vacation? For Adam Sandler, filmmaking is like that time-share presentation. All the guy wants is to get major motion picture studios to subsidize his vacations. Is that so wrong? If Sony or Warner Brothers said to you, "How would you like an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii or Africa or a secluded lake? And all you have to do is deliver a movie and nobody on our side will even ask to see a script or bother looking at the final cut," what would you say? You'd accept the deal. Don't deny it. It's obvious that Sandler and his partners-in-vacation-loving-crime don't especially enjoy the quid pro quo required for their global galavanting,...
