“The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano has stirred both pushback and support from “Star Wars” and Disney fans alike on social media after posting a number of controversial tweets, including about mask-wearing and hypothetical voter fraud. The actress, who plays Cara Dune in the Disney+ series, was also previously accused of mocking trans pronouns on social media. See some of the tweets below.
The #FireGinaCarano hashtag began picking up steam last week, but has continued to build momentum after Disney+ dropped the “Chapter 12” episode of “The Mandalorian” on Friday, in which Carano stars. But at the same time, #StandWithGinaCarano has also begun trending on Twitter in response from fans who feel the plea to cast Carano out of the show is another example of censorship, and cancel culture gone too far.
“It’s amazing how the #FireGinaCarano folks, don’t even see that their cancelation campaigns only verify many of the things she’s fighting against,...

The Twitter account of Rachel Butera, the voice actor who plays Leia Organa in Disney Channel’s upcoming “Star Wars Resistance” animated series, has vanished.
The disappearance of her Twitter handle came after a backlash over a video Butera posted mocking the voice of Christine Blasey Ford, who testified Thursday in a highly charged Senate hearing that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her.
“I just have this kind of a voice, like a baby, even though I’m a doctor and I’m on this media circus, political stage, and I have kids myself, that I don’t know why I speak with vocal fry,” Butera said in the video (pictured above) she posted on Twitter along with the comment: “I can’t believe this is my voice, can you???. Rachel Butera, a voice actress for Disney Channel’s “Star Wars Resistance,” apologized for appearing to mock Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Butera is set to voice feminist icon Princess Leia in the upcoming animated “Star Wars” TV show. Neither LucasFilm or Disney immediately responded to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Butera, in a since-deleted tweet, posted a video where she appeared to mock Dr. Ford. Per Gizmodo, here’s what Butera said in the initial video:
I don’t know if anybody is listening to the Dr. Blasey Ford testimony about Brett Kavanaugh but this is how I sound. I know it’s a surprise to even me that I talk this way and I’m a doctor and a grown woman. Star Wars Resistance is the latest animated series to come from the mind of The Clone Wars and Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni. As the title suggests, it’s set prior to the events of The Force Awakens and will follow the Resistance in their fight against the First Order. The first trailer, released last month, promised a bright, fast-paced show that focused on a new bunch of Resistance pilots, but that doesn’t mean some familiar faces won’t pop up, too.
With just a week and a half to go until it arrives on Disney Xd, an extended look at the series has now dropped online and features Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Poe Dameron. The Resistance leader will act as a mentor to protagonist Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono, who wants to be an “ace pilot” but who Poe sends on a dangerous mission to spy on their enemies.

If you’ve ever wanted to see what Top Gun might be like in a galaxy far far way, Star Wars Resistance is going to give you that! We’ve got a wicked cool new extended trailer for the animated series for you to watch today and I think it gives us our best look yet at the series and the exciting fast-paced tone. I love what I’m seeing from this show and it’s going to be a blast!
The show revolves around a character named Kazuda Xiono, who is described as "a young pilot recruited by the Resistance whose mission is to spy on the growing threat of the First Order." We also knew that Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) would be a part of this new Star Wars adventure.

The Disney Channel has released the story details for the first five episodes on the upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance. It’s revealed in the one of the synopsis that Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) is set to be a guest star in the series, which is pretty cool! Now, Wood joins his Lotr co-star Dominic Monaghan in the galaxy far for away. Monaghan was recently cast in Star Wars: Episode IX.
He will be appearing in the episode titled “Fuel For The Fire” and he will provide the voice of a pilot named Jace Rucklin. Below you will find all the details for the first five episodes of Star Wars Resistance:
“The Recruit Parts 1&2”
(October 7th) X-wing pilot Kazuda Xiono is recruited for the Resistance, but finds himself in over his head when Poe Dameron assigns him to a remote fueling station to spy on the First Order.

I’ve got a great new featurette for Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance. It introduces us to a team of talented and daring pilots known as The Aces and in the process shows off a lot of cool new footage that offers us some insight into who these characters are and the role that they’ll play in the series. This team of pilots are hired to serve and protect the Colossus platform in the series. This is actually a group of fun and interesting characters. I’m pretty excited about this series and I like everything that I’ve seen from it so far!
When the show was first announced, we learned that it would revolve around a character named Kazuda Xiono, who is described as "a young pilot recruited by the Resistance whose mission is to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.

A new piece of poster art and a featurette have been released for Lucasfilm's upcoming animated series Star Wars Resistance and they highlight the new characters that will fill the story and make up Team Fireball. I also like the little tagline that comes with it: "Some Heroes Stick To The Plan. Others Just Wing It."
The Fireball team consists of, Jarek Yeager, former Rebellion pilot who is trying to live a quiet life as a mechanic. That all changes when Poe and Leia ask for his help; Tam Ryvora, a fellow mechanic who used to be a racer herself before she lost her ship. “She’s tough, no-nonsense, she kind of has attitude"; Neeku, a green naive alien, who is an "unbelievably positive, happy character"; and Bucket, a droid who has a thing for wearing X-wing fighter pilot helmets.
I enjoyed what I saw in the trailer that...

X-wings, fall in!
Disney and Lucasfilm have peeled back the tarpaulin on a shiny new banner image for Star Wars Resistance, and this one is all about assembling the next generation of fighter pilots.
Front and center here is Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono (voiced by Days of Our Lives alum Christopher Sean), the Resistance’s latest recruit who hopes to spy on the First Order and impress his commanding officer, who just so happens to be Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).
Remember, this newfangled animated series takes place before The Force Awakens, meaning Poe is yet to cross paths with Finn and Rey. It opens up a fascinating avenue for Resistance to explore, too, and we know from Rebels and The Clone Wars that Lucasfilm tends to strike lucky when dabbling with animated adventures set within the Star Wars universe.
Will Star Wars Resistance uphold that trend? Who knows, but below you’ll see Kaz and Co.

The Disney Channel has premiered the first look trailer at its newest branch of Star Wars adventures, Star Wars: Resistance.
The series will concentrate on introducing a few new faces to the saga which is set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. However, at least four familiar faces of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), and Bb-8 along with General Leia – who is to be voiced by Rachel Butera – will be making an appearance.
Also lending their voices to the series are Donald Faison, Jim Rash, Bobby Moynihan and Myrna Velasco and Rachel Butera. The animated saga is created by Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni and executive produced by Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge and Brandon Auman.

The Resistance is afoot.
Ahead of its fall premiere on Disney Xd, the Mouse House has officially peeled back the curtain on Star Wars Resistance, the anime-inspired TV show which features the voices of Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie (and Bb-8!), the star-crossed duo who were previously seen at loggerheads during The Last Jedi.
For Resistance, though, Lucasfilm plans to roll back the years to a time before The Force Awakens, when budding X-wing pilot Kazuda Xiono mounts a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.
Beyond that, little is known about the core plot, but today brings forth our first peek at the show’s ensemble cast – a cast that is naturally divided between the dark side and the light.

Disney and Lucasfilm are headed back in time with Star Wars Resistance, a new anime-inspired TV series due to air this fall on Disney Channel, before jetting over to Disney Xd for international viewers.
Featuring the voices of Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie (and Bb-8!), who were last seen at loggerheads during The Last Jedi, Resistance takes place prior to the events of The Force Awakens, and instead shifts the focus over to Kazuda Xiono, a “young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.”
He’ll be whisked off on a high-flying adventure that will supposedly cater to the whole family, while there’s also word of “colorful new characters” to help flesh out what are essentially Kaz’s first steps in the Star Wars universe.
Details of a firm release date and/or episode count weren’t disclosed,...

At the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, TV is invading the schedule in a whole new way. The Park City film fest has previously dabbled in what’s possible on the small screen, but this year marks the launch of the Indie Episodics section — which will spotlight TV pilots that mostly lack mainstream distribution.
The selections include “America to Me,” a new docu-series by “Hoop Dreams” director Steve James; as well as “The Mortified Guide,” a screen adaptation of the popular stage show “Mortified,” spotlighting the most embarrassing true stories of adolescence. There’s also “This Close,” showcasing star/creators Josh Feldman and Shoshannah Stern (both of whom are deaf), and “Franchesca,” featuring digital star and “The Nightly Show” writer/contributor Franchesca Ramsey.
This marks a major change for Sundance, and a renewed commitment to independent television. While Sundance has featured TV programming since the premiere of “Top of the Lake” in...
