A new web series produced by Park Triangle Productions follows a troubled young woman who discovers it's not so easy to be free-spirited and easygoing. It's called No Strings, Please, and it uses Washington, DC as the backdrop for an exploration of the difficulties of life in the city. No Strings, Please stars Naima Ramos-Champan as Charley Parker (no, not that one), a fiercely independent heroine who uproots herself from her childhood home in Brooklyn to take a new job in the District. The first time we meet Parker, she gets a tattoo of the letters Ns, which stands for 'no strings' and echoes her girl power personality. Kerry Washington has been named as the festival ambassador of the 14th Annual Urbanworld Film Festival. Bet Networks also announced that Magnolia Pictures' "Night Catches Us" will be the Opening Night film.
Urbanworld will be screening 71 films this year, including 22 world premieres, and will present the work of five Urbanworld Screenplay Competition finalists in live readings. Bet Networks, the sponsor of the screenplay competition, will host the private event.
Finalists include "Bag Ladies" by Tai Nelson, "Gracey" by Julian Breece, "Jean of the Joneses" by Alison Meghie, "Knife to a Gunfight" by Gemal Woods, and "Osvaldo's" by Randy Wilkins.
Founder Stacy Spikes said, "This year's program is rooted in our original mission: to shine a light on films and filmmakers whose artistic excellence is too often overlooked elsewhere. Through our partnership with Bet, we are thrilled to introduce more than 20 world premieres in a true celebration of bright, bold multicultural filmmaking.
