As one of the early event cancellations in the deluge of unprecedented closures caused by the coronavirus, it’s easy to forget that SXSW would still be running right now. The Austin-based film, TV, and music festival was scheduled to be hosting screenings through March 22, and its Episodic Pilot lineup — a showcase of TV and web pilots aimed to help filmmakers find production opportunities, completion funds, or a release platform — would’ve aired all its entries before St. Patrick’s Day.
Using the SXSW Press platform provided for would-be attendees, IndieWire watched this year’s batch and picked out the most notable entries below. Among the 14 submissions split into two screening groups, there are the typical handful of “pilots” that aren’t really pilots — they’re proofs of concept or short films. Creator April Blair reveals what she had planned for Jane & Billy's first kiss, Ben & Rita's race to the altar, and more. Jane By Design fans were crushed last week when ABC Family announced the show wouldn't be returning for a second season — I coped with carbs — but fortunately, creator April Blair was more than happy to give HollywoodLife.com an exclusive breakdown of what we would have seen in season two. And trust me, it would have been awesome. 1. Eli to the rescue: Curious how Jane (Erica Dasher) was going to explain to Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli (Bryan Dechart) why she was backstage at a high-school play? "Our idea was that Eli was going to cover for her," April says. "There were moments in episode 18 where he looked at the costumes crookedly, and throughout the play he pieced it together." 2. Jane & Billy's big moment: It sounds like Jane and...

Bad news, "Jane By Design" fans: ABC Family has no designs on Season 2. On Friday, August 17, the network announced plans to extend the pickups of established series "Switched at Birth," "Bunheads," and "Baby Daddy," but obviously, "Jane By Design" was not on the list.
ABC Family confirms that the series will not be returning.
"Want my #rouxers to hear this from me first. #JaneByDesign will Not be coming back for a 2nd season," tweeted series star Nick Roux on Friday. "It sucks but everything happens for a reason... Or at least thats what ive been told haha."
The series finale, "The Bonus Check," aired July 31, 2012. Unfortunately for fans, it didn't exactly tie up loose ends. "Nothing is resolved at the end of this season -- I think we have to come back. We'll live in this very unresolved world!" Erica Dasher told Zap2it earlier this month.

'Jane By Design' won't return for a second season, ABC Family confirms. It's with much sadness that I report ABC Family has decided not to renew Jane By Design. The decision was announced Aug. 17, on the heels of several other series — Bunheads, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth — receiving new season and back-order pickups. The show's first season ended with Jane (Erica Dasher) finally getting caught by boss Gray (Andie MacDowell) for being in high school, after spending the series posing as her adult assistant. She had also finally acknowledged her feelings for best-friend Billy (Nick Roux). Several of the shows stars thanked fans for their support over Twitter: "Thank you so much for everything!!!" Jane herself, Erica, tweeted. "It was incredible and you all are the best part of that experience. Love love love" Rowly Dennis, who played hot-shot British design Jeremy, tweeted: "Sorry guys,...

In ABC Family’s renewal announcement today, there was one bubble series conspicuously missing — Jane By Design. The cable network will not order more episodes of the comedic drama, which is being cancelled after one season. What do You want to see when 'Jane By Design' (hopefully) returns to ABC Family for its second season? It's been seven whole days since Jane By Design aired its summer finale cliffhanger, and although the future of the series — much like Jane's (Erica Dasher) future at Donovan Decker — remains unconfirmed, I'm hearing that a second season is likely. So why not start compiling a wish list of all the things I'd like to see in season two? 1. An available, age-appropriate guy for Jane: I think we can all agree Jane has terrible luck with guys. Between unavailable-best-friend Billy (Nick Roux) and older-co-worker Eli (Bryan Dechart), Jane's love life was pretty much lose-lose at the end of season one. She just needs to find a nice guy her own age so she can finally get her groove back! Perhaps round two with Nick (Matt Atkinson...

The first season of 'Jane By Design' came to a close with surprise twists, new beginnings & one major cliffhanger! (This show Needs a second season.) When Jane By Design creator April Blair told me everything would be "put in jeopardy" for Jane (Erica Dasher) on the July 31 summer finale, I didn't realize what an understatement that really was. While Jane began the hour with a major victory in London, she ended it with a disappointing realization about Billy (Nick Roux) — and a very uncertain future at Donovan Decker! I think the best way to break down the drama is to take things couple by couple, beginning with... Ben & Rita: As promised, Ben (David Clayton Rogers) made his triumphant return home this week, but he didn't just do it for Jane! He also professed his love for Rita (Smith Cho), who returned his affections by interrupting his baseball practice with some intense Pda.

Who will Billy choose? Who's coming back? And who will learn Jane's secret? HollywoodLife.com got all the scoop from creator April Blair! The tables officially turn on the July 31 summer finale of Jane By Design, with Billy (Nick Roux) now having to choose between girlfriend Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) and best-friend Jane (Erica Dasher). But creator April Blair tells HollywoodLife.com that Billy's big decision is just one of many major moments we can anticipate, along with Jane's two worlds colliding to the point where "everything is put in jeopardy." Here's what I learned: 1. Are Eli & Jane officially over? Well, it depends on how you look at it. Yes, Eli (Bryan Dechart) slept with India (India de Beaufort) last week, but April suggests we take a step back and examine both sides of the situation. "Jane and Eli have only been on one date," she explains. "One date and one kiss.

Plus, Jane says goodbye to two major people in her life! What will she do next? Jane (Erica Dasher) finally had her first real date with Eli (Bryan Dechart) on the July 17 episode of Jane By Design, and it was perfect — minus the part where Jane spilled red wine all over Nina Garcia and had to leave the fanciest restaurant in town wearing a table cloth for a dress. Other than that... perfect. Fortunately Jane was able to fix that little problem all on her own, because Billy (Nick Roux) was a little busy sticking his foot in his mouth. He overheard Zoe and Nick (Matt Atkinson) running lines for the play, but thought they were having a serious conversation, which led to a super-awkward moment for the three of them. Zoe got mad at Billy for not trusting her, but um... isn't the one who already lied to him about where she lived?...

It's hard not to be jealous of Erica Dasher's problems at work. Her character on ABC Family's "Jane By Design" -- high-schooler by day, fashion assistant by other times of day Jane Quimby -- has two very cute boys to choose from. Things are heating up with Eli (Bryan Dechart), her slightly older designer coworker, but there's always been an unspoken attraction to her Bff Billy (Nicholas Roux).
"I'm a very lucky girl," Dasher tells Zap2it. "I'm just surrounded with beautiful men all the time. I don't know what I did in a past life, but I'm pretty thrilled about it."
On Tuesday, July 17, Jane and Eli finally go on the date she's been owed since her birthday. "It's obviously complicated because he doesn't know her age, and because he's Gray's nephew. There are a lot of what-ifs in the air. I think Jane is completely unsure how to handle it.

It's official: No TV couple is safe! Read on for my exclusive scoop on 'True Blood,' 'Jane By Design' and more. Happy Hump Day! Now that the summer holiday is behind us, my weekly Spoiler Parties can officially commence — and things are not looking good for some of my (and your) favorite TV couples. Jane By Design Jane (Erica Dasher) and Billy (Nick Roux) may be currently preoccupied with their own separate love interests, but it won't be long before the best friends are once again forced to re-define their relationship. "There is a big shift with Billy and Jane coming up," Erica tells me. "I think that will be a really fun thing to stay tuned for at the end of the season." True Blood Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) has been M.I.A. from Bon Temps for the past few weeks, but I've been...

Someone liked it — and definitely wants to put a ring on it. As if Jane's life wasn't complicated enough! Jane's (Erica Dasher) fairy tale life almost came crashing down around her — once again — on the July 10 episode of Jane By Design when her mom (Teri Hatcher) decided to whip up an online dating profile for Gray (Andie MacDowell), following the news that Beau has found himself a much younger fiancée. And, of course, India (India de Beaufort) was somehow able to manipulate Kate's kind gesture in yet another attempt to oust Gray from the company. Sneaky little India set up a fake date for Gray, as well as a surprise meeting with one of Donovan Decker's biggest competitors. The plan was simple: Gray would show up for her date, bump into the competitor, India would snap a picture, and everyone would think Gray was jumping ship. But there was one...

Plus, Erica gives HollywoodLife.com the scoop on Jane's future with Billy and what she learned from Teri Hatcher. If you're one of those Jane By Design fans who's desperately waiting for Jane (Erica Dasher) and Billy (Nick Roux) to proclaim their true feelings for one another, your wait is... far from over, thanks to a certain gentleman named Eli (Bryan Dechart). Erica tells HollywoodLife.com that Jane and Eli "do finally go on a date," but of course, it's not without its complications. "There is the matter of the age difference, which obviously hasn't been addressed yet," Erica points out, adding that Eli and Jane "really take a liking to each other. ... He's a really genuine character. He cares very much about the craft and working in the fashion world, and he senses that's also a passion of Jane's." So what else can fans expect from Jane's love life as the season continues?...

Obviously on a show called "Jane By Design," the double life exploits of high schooler/fashion assistant Jane (Erica Dasher) will take center stage. But in "The Online Date," Jane's older brother, Ben (David Clayton Rogers), is in the middle of the action.
While baseball coach Ben's relationship with guidance counselor Rita (Smith Cho) lasted about an episode on screen (two months off-screen), it's clear the two still have feelings for one another. Now that ex-mean girl Amanda (Briga Heelan) is back in town after a stint as an actress in Los Angeles, Rita has some competition for Ben's affection.
"She comes in and is like the popular mean girl opposite sweet Rita," Rogers tells Zap2it. "I believe she played a dead body on one episode of some crime procedural, so she comes back basically as the success story. She has not really gone through the maturation process that some others have.

Erica Dasher live-tweeted the 'crisis' before de-stressing the London way: with a cup of tea! Jane By Design stars Erica Dasher and Rowly Dennis were faced with an emergency — and not one of the fashion variety — when a fire forced them to evacuate London's Corinthia Hotel on June 27. "Hotel completely evacuated at 6am," Erica tweeted. "@RowlyDennis acts as hero." But it wasn't long before Jane and Rowly — dressed to the nines in hotel couture — were relaxing over tea, and wishing co-star India de Beaufort a happy birthday. "We cheers to you, little bird!!! :)" Erica tweeted, along with the above photo. Erica and Rowly are currently in London to finish filming Jane By Design's first season — of many, I hope. Rihanna was also reportedly in the hotel at the time of the evacuation. — Andy Swift Follow @AndySwift...

Plus, Jane reveals a Huge secret — but it's not the one you might think! Jane (Erica Dasher) has always wondered what life would be like if her mom came home, and on the June 26 episode of Jane By Design, she finally got her answer: It pretty much blows. On her first day back in town, Kate (Teri Hatcher) managed to work her way into Jane's love life and work life, nearly blowing her big secret to Gray (Andie MacDowell). Of course, Kate's meddling wasn't a total loss. She pushed Jane to ask Eli (Bryan Dechart) on a date, and even though she didn't go through with it, at least Jane learned that Eli is definitely interested. Kate eventually poured her heart out to her kids — Ben (David Clayton Rogers) was especially resistent to her return — so it looks like the Quimby family is on the road to recovery. Speaking of Ben,...

It was Jane's birthday this week - and an occasion for Ben's plan to fail, big time, on "The Surprise."
A couple episodes ago, Jane By Design did a homage to Ferris Bueller's Day Off; this week it was Sixteen Candles, continuing the string of 1980s movie references throughout the series. Unfortunately, most of the teens who watch the show probably have not seen these classic movies. If you haven't, go find them, watch them and enjoy them.
Unlike in Sixteen Candles, Ben and Billy have purposefully let Jane think they forgot about her birthday. That is never a good idea. Don't try that at home! It will likely end up worse that what happened to Jane. At least she got an incredible non-date for her special day.
The love quadrangle officially turned into the love pentagon with Gray's nephew, Eli, entering into the fray. If you thought that...

Yes, Jane's long-lost mom is finally back — direct from Wisteria Lane! This may not have been Jane's (Erica Dasher) best birthday ever, but it was definitely the most surprising. Not only did she learn the truth about the Donovan Decker mole on the June 19 episode of Jane By Design, but she also discovered intense new feelings for a certain co-worker. Oh, and did I mention her mom (Teri Hatcher) came back to surprise her? Happy birthday, indeed. Eli (Bryan Dechart) was tasked with distracting Jane while preparations for her office surprise party were underway, but it didn't take long for the line between business and pleasure to blur. I know we're supposed to want Jane to end up with Billy (Nick Roux), but there's no way you can deny the chemistry between Jane and Eli — and apparently neither can Eli. He asked her out on a real date...

When Teri Hatcher signed on to appear in four episodes of "Jane By Design," she was originally supposed to show up in the fourth episode of the ABC Family dramedy's summer run. But star David Clayton Rogers says everyone was so eager to have her on set, the writers penciled her in earlier.
"She was excited to come on and everyone was so excited to have her [that] they went ahead and condensed some storylines to get her there sooner," he tells Zap2it.
Hatcher will debut on Tuesday, June 19 as the absentee mother of 16-year-old Jane (Erica Dasher) and her older brother Ben (Rogers). Why she comes back is still unknown, Rogers says.
"Her exact reasoning is a little bit of a mystery, and she doesn't really open up to us for a while. The basic vibe she gives off is of that free spirit -- spend a little time here,...

Plus, another fan-favorite couple takes a serious hit! Worst Valentine's Day ever. Jane (Erica Dasher) got a taste of fame on the June 12 episode of Jane By Design when she was photographed alongside Donovan Decker's latest high-profile client, but her new celeb status caused major problems for her friendship with Billy (Nick Roux). And while Billy was crushed at first, his budding relationship with new-girl Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) provided just the distraction he needed. New lovers! Old secrets! Same crazy India! HollywoodLife.com has five major 'Jane By Design' spoilers straight from creator April Blair. Jane's (Erica Dasher) life has always been complicated, but the summer premiere of Jane By Design turned her whole world upside down — and creator April Blair promises HollywoodLife.com that the madness has only just begun. From new boys (Eli, anyone?) to old rivals (hello, India!), April gave me the low-down on what we can look forward to as we finish out the show's freshman season. 1. New love interests for Jane And Billy: "There will be different people in Jane and Billy's [Nick Roux] lives," April confirms — and she's not just talking about Jane's new love interest Eli (Bryan Dechart)! Billy will have someone new enter the picture, just like Jane had Eli enter the picture, but I will say we don't just wipe the Jane/Billy slate clean.

Plus, a handsome new face turns Jane's world upside down. God, I've missed this show! Two months have passed since Billy (Nick Roux) all-but-confessed his love to Jane (Erica Dasher), and when Jane By Design returned June 5, viewers basically found themselves in an alternate universe. Ben (David Clayton Rogers) was helping Jane keep her big secret, Nick (Matthew Atkinson) was in a full-on relationship with Lulu (Meagan Tandy), and India (India de Beaufort) was... well... I'll get to her later. The episode began with Jane and Billy's highly anticipated reunion — he'd been locked away in a juvenile detention camp, but thankfully, his gravity defying hair didn't suffer for it — and he and Jane finally had "the talk." Well, sort of. Billy pretty much avoided the subject until the final moments of the episode, when he totally lied and said Jane was his best friend and he didn't want that to change.
