Justin Lin may be the foremost director of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but he's taking a break from the Hollywood big leagues for his next film: an indie movie about the misguided missionary John Allen Chau. Before helming half of the entries in one of the most successful blockbuster series in modern times, Lin directed indie movies that centered on the Asian-American communities of Southern California, including the quirky comedy "Shopping for Fangs" and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-nominated "Better Luck Tomorrow."
Lin directed "Shopping for Fangs" with Quentin Lee when they were both students in UCLA's film school in 1997. The film marks the acting debut of John Cho, who would go on to work with Lin on his follow-up feature, "Better Luck Tomorrow," as well as years later on "Star Trek Beyond." "Better Luck Tomorrow," a drama about an aimless group of Asian-Americans who throw their successes...

The red carpet style this week isn't giving us any indication that the end of summer is in sight (which we, of course, appreciate). Take Jennifer Lopez, who stunned in a color-blocked, pastel Alex Perry midi at American Idol auditions being held in Little Rock, Arkansas over the weekend. The slim-fitting number clung in all the right places (natch), while her stark white pumps heightened the sweet, summery effect. Elisabeth Moss, meanwhile, stunned at the New York City premiere of her new film Queen of Earth in a voluminous Monique Lhuillier dress. Even better? The tea-length silhouette gave us a better view of Moss' covetable lime-green Stuart Weitzman sandals, which added a whimsical touch. New...

Here's the good news: Most of your favorite pop stars did well tonight, fashion-wise. Miranda Lambert continued her ultra chic streak, Lucy Hale brightened up in a colorful Alex Perry frock and the always glamorous Jennifer Lopez stole the show in a red hot Donna Karan gown. Of course, there were a few style missteps. Chrissy Teigen raised some eyebrows in a Fyodor Golan ensemble you have to see to believe. Sarah Hyland probably would have benefited from removing one item from her busy look. And Kelly Rowland left little to the imagination in a bra top and skirt with slit combo. See all of the questionable getups here and the unquestionably amazing ones below.

In case you missed it, this weekend stars gathered for the 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards. Most attendees kept their style simple with just touch of flair because understandably celebs were saving their big fashion statement for the Golden Globe awards on January 12. Still there were a few fashion highlights, starting with Sandra Bullock who replicated her sherbet color combo from the summer and donned an Alex Perry sheath that featured a floral embellishment along the bodice. Also opting for a bright hue, Lupita Nyong'o donned a rose gold Elie Saab frock that literally glowed under the shutterbugs' flashes. Amy Adams played with prints in a Juan Carlos Obando dress...

In fairness to Jessica Chastain, this cocktail frock is technically butter-yellow and black, but anything in the general shade of a bumblebee is a problem... We're not sure why the Mama actress picked this Alex Perry outfit considering it makes her look like summer's most hated flying pest—and to make matters worse, she's at an outdoor event! Yes, the stripes are vertical not horizontal, but if she slapped on some antennae, this would make a super chic Halloween costume. We typically love The Help star's style, so we'll give her kudos for a great cut on the neckline and trendy, white pumps. But regarding this color combo, we have to say, buzz off (of course!). More and more people are watching live-entertainment television shows while simultaneously interacting with the content on mobile devices. But could 'second-screen' viewing also work for documentaries?
With the adoption of tablets and smartphones, watching TV has become something audiences participate in rather than just sit back and watch.
According to former Channel 4 executive Matt Locke, founder of multiplatform producer Storythings, some 60% of UK viewers now have a laptop or tablet computer running while they are watching television and are very often commenting on the show unfolding. "There has been a big consumer uptake of tablets and iPhones; we started noticing people talking about shows while watching them," says Locke.
Given this boom in so-called "second screen" viewing, there are some cutting-edge television creatives in the industry who predict that the traditional TV set in the corner of the lounge is in danger of turning into the second screen. "Tablets...

Miranda Kerr is believed to be in the running for the host role on Australia's Next Top Model. The reality television series used to be hosted by Sarah Murdoch, but she announced last year that she would be stepping down from her presenting duties. Australia's Next Top Model judge Alex Perry told The Daily Telegraph: "Miranda would be amazing. I've worked with her for so long. "She's a great girl and would be an icon to the girls in the competition." When Murdoch quit her role, she said: "It has been an incredible opportunity to work on a show as exciting and popular as Australia's Next Top Model. Leaving the show has been a very difficult decision for me. "Being entrusted to work on all aspects as host and co-executive (more)...

We get it. Miranda Kerr is Wonder Woman, Ok? That face and that body are not of this world. How is it fair that one woman could be an angel and a super heroine at the same time? Because not only do we see Miranda strutting her stuff in her skivvies on Angel duty for Victoria’s Secret all the time, she’s now on the cover of special edition issue of Grazia Australia magazine as Wonder Woman. A couture version of Wonder Woman, that is. Mrs. Orlando Bloom is wearing a bodysuit by Alex Perry. The patriotic issue is in honor of Australia Day which is coming up on the 26th of this month — tomorrow. Light up those barbies and break out some beer. Can we also say that we love the cover line, “Kerr Pow!”

Kellan Lutz and his new girlfriend, Sharni Vinson, flew down to Sydney for the the GQ Australia Men of the Year Awards, yesterday. We’re loving native Aussie Sharni’s Alex Perry dress and shoes, and Kellan — with or without a koala in his hands — makes us melt. And although, sadly, he didn’t win any awards (and nor did she), they were joined on the red carpet by the Actor of the Year and the Woman of the Year, Alex O’Loughlin and Rachael Taylor. So basically, everyone on the little gallery below is remarkably hot. Happy Wednesday!

Alex Perry has revealed that he "loves" girls with curves. The Australian fashion designer, who was recently labelled "fattist" by a former contestant on Australia's Next Top Model, said that is capable of dressing larger girls better than anybody else. Perry has recently been dressing plus-size model and face of Playtex Penny Benson for the upcoming spring racing season, and revealed that the skill is all about dressing for your proportions. "You've got to know your shape, your best features," he told the Herald Sun. "Penny is a larger girl, she has a booty and she knows it, but she knows how to dress."
Perry also addressed the claims made by Alissandra Moone from Australia's Next Top Model, saying: "From a young age I've been called everything from fat to a w*g. I can (more)...

Jersey Shore star Snooki, Australian Dancing with the Stars contestant Brynne Edelsten and singer Ke$$ha have been named the worst-dressed celebrities by an Aussie magazine. Who's worst dressed in the world list, which featured Snooki at number one, Ke$$ha at number two and Edelsten in third place, was compiled by fashion designer Alex Perry, model Lara Bingle, makeup artist Napoleon Perdis and radio star Jackie O. Perry said: "Unfortunately, money don't buy you style." He also described Edelsten's much older husband Geoffrey as "Kermit the frog" and labelled her as a "Vegas Bingo Hall princess". Project Runway Australia finalist Craig Braybrook has joined the weight debate surrounding Alex Perry. The Australian fashion designer, who is also a mentor on Australia's Next Top Model, was initially accused by TV star Ajay Rochester of "hating fat women" but called her claims "reprehensible". Perry was then labelled a 'fattist' after describing size eight Next Top Model contestant Alissandra Moone as "overstuffed luggage" in an episode of the show last week. Braybrook has now claimed to the Herald Sun that Perry and fellow contestants on the reality series would often make jibes about (more)...

Alex Perry has hit back at reports that he discriminates against larger women. The Australian fashion designer, who caused controversy earlier this week when he referred to a size eight Australia's Next Top Model contestant as "overstuffed luggage", said that his comments were taken out of context and he was talking specifically about her modelling shot instead of her body shape. Perry told the Herald Sun: "Somehow everyone thinks I hate fat people... I have somehow become the new skinny ambassador. I can dress a big girl better than anybody. When we started fashion week, I have always used girls like Megan Gale and Erika Heynatz... who are tall and have always been curvy. "It was the fashion editors who were always saying, 'Uh, he is using those girls again', and not heroin chic, who they were using at the time." Perry reminded (more)...

A size eight teenager on Australia's Next Top Model has been labelled too fat by the one of the show's judges. Alissandra Moone, who weighs 57kg, said that she was "stunned" when fashion designer Alex Perry likened her to "overstuffed luggage" and has accused the reality series of sending out a poor "message" to fans. Moone told The Daily Telegraph: "It's a very bad message to be sending to young girls who watch the show. It's harsh. It's stupid. And it's out of touch. I understand it's a reality of the industry but this is a TV show and they should have a responsibility to censor that kind of thing. "I know this has happened to other girls in the past but I was shocked when he said I was too fat. I'm only a size eight. There's going to be a lot of young girls watching this (more)...

Ajay Rochester has accused Alex Perry of "hating fat women". The television personality, who used to be the host of weight loss reality TV show The Biggest Loser Australia, said that fashion designer Perry should be promoting a healthy body image rather than making clothes meant for thin people. Rochester told The Daily Telegraph: "There are designers like Alex Perry who hate fat women... and aren't afraid to say it. "He once said to my face that in model sizes I would be 500. I understand his humour, I do, that's his thing. But c'mon, Alex - put someone on the runway that isn't a size 6." Perry has now hit back (more)...

Miranda Kerr wore a swimsuit and a smile this afternoon when she hit the runway for Australian retailer David Jones in Sydney. She modeled a variety of outfits that will be available in its stores, including pieces from Aussie designers Collette Dinnigan, Camilla Franks, and Alex Perry. Her cutout one-piece was by the company Jets. Miranda changed into a white lace dress for the afterparty held at the city's Royal Hall of Industries. David Jones is keeping Miranda busy during her time Down Under between an in-store appearance and photo shoots. Today's catwalk appearance was Miranda's first since welcoming her son Flynn in January. Miranda said of her return to the runway in the Bond girl-esque suit, "I am a little nervous about getting back on the runway after just having a baby seven months ago in a swimsuit. But you know, I have been doing my squats, and I...

Melbourne, August 03: Curvy Sydney-born Robyn Lawley, has become the first plus-size model to feature in Vogue Australia.
The magazine has published its first ever plus-size fashion shoot in the style bible's 52-year history.
Lawley stars in the magazine's September issue in a series of sleek monochrome shots modelling designs from Alex Perry, Willow and Carla Zampatti.
But, the decision to cast Lawley, who has already graced the covers of Vogue Italia and French Elle, is no headline-grabbing gimmick, the editor of Vogue Australia, Kirstie Clements, said.
"I didn't do it as a stunt.

Alex Perry has revealed that he has cut down on smoking to mark World No Tobacco Day. The Australian fashion designer, who is also a judge on Australia's Next Top Model, said that it has been hard to drop from 20 cigarettes a day to five because smoking is "synonymous" with a career in the fashion industry. Perry told Aap: "I think the fashion industry is known for smoking, if that makes sense. It's a glass of champagne and a cigarette, and it's all fabulous darling, but it actually isn't, and that's why I want to lead a healthier life. "Every time I think I'm stressed, I think, 'I must have a cigarette'. I don't know why it happens at the same time, but I think a lot of people (more)...

Megan Gale has revealed that she feels "better" than ever. The Australian supermodel, who made a catwalk comeback at Alex Perry's fashion show in Melbourne last week, said that she has been on a healthy "regime" for the past five months which has seen her drop a dress size. Gale told the Sunday Herald Sun: "I feel better than I have in a long time. I have been on a bit of a regime since about October last year and no one's really seen me because I've been so under the radar shooting Project Runway. "I've started running again in addition to all of that, I've done Pilates, yoga, pole dancing and power walking. I took (more)...
