There have been numerous medical dramas on television, and 10 years ago, on May 27, 2014, The Night Shift joined that list. The NBC drama, with a cast including Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Brendan Fehr, Robert Bailey, Jr., Jeananne Goossen, and Scott Wolf, ran four seasons and for three of them was a welcome addition to the summer lineup (the second aired in the spring). Created by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the drama followed the lives of the staff who work the late night shift in the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial Hospital, and according to Macken, who was last seen on La Brea (which ended after three seasons on NBC), that’s not the only thing that made it stand out. “What Gabe and Jeff did was everyone that came onto that show in any capacity in every episode they knew or worked with usually, or if there...

"If we landed with them, that means we should've ejected." You have to see this impressive sci-fi short film titled Hyperlight, about two astronauts on a cool space ship traveling far to another place in the galaxy in another star system. Set at a time when humans have just achieved faster-than-light travel, this short has an ambitious concept but director Nguyen-Anh Nguyen pulls it off so amazingly well, with some slick VFX work and captivating sci-fi story. Hyperlight stars Jeananne Goossen, Peter Shinkoda, and Caroline Dhavernas. There's a few big twists in this and lots to process, but it's another must watch sci-fi short film. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip. Synopsis for Hyperlight from Vimeo: 'Two elite astronauts wake up in the abyss of space; they return to their stranded ship and discover the surprising reason behind their mission's catastrophic failure." Question: Can we expect the LokSat storyline to be wrapped up by the end of Castle‘s Season 8 finale? —Andrea
Ausiello: Considering that Kristofer Polaha will resurface as LokSat stooge Caleb Brown in the May 16 closer, I’d say that is a safe-ish bet. Speaking of which, with a renewal decision expected to come down to the wire, I hear producers are shooting multiple endings — one that works as a season finale and another that serves as a series finale.

A medical drama, The Night Shift wasn't exactly a hit in the ratings when NBC aired the first season last summer. They renewed it for a second season and decided to give it a much better timeslot -- airing behind their biggest series, The Voice. Will the ratings rise high enough to justify a third season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!

NBC hasn't had much luck airing original dramas over the summer months. Will The Night Shift be a different ratings story? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned to find out.

Encouraging news for NBC‘s off-cycle drama pilot After Hours, which is now titled The Night Shift. I hear the network has commissioned four backup scripts from the project, produced by Sony Pictures TV. The Night Shift, an ensemble medical show about a group of Army doctors who return to work the night shift together, was one of two drama pilots NBC ordered off-cycle, along with soapy mystery The Secret Lives of Husbands And Wives. The Night Shift, created by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, was originally developed by NBC last season. The network didn’t pick it up to pilot back then but kept it in contention with an order for a new script. The Night Shift was ordered to pilot in October with Pierre Morel directing and Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Freddy Rodriguez, Ken Leung, Jeananne Goossen, Robert Bailey Jr and Brigid Brannagh starring. The project heated up...

Kevin Williamson's Fox drama "The Following" has cast its new female lead. Annie Parisse of "Law & Order" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" will play Debra Parker, a cult specialist sent in by the FBI to assist Kevin Bacon's character, Ryan Hardy, in taking down notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy).

She isn't afraid to use her sexuality to get results, and get them she does -- in fact, she's known for her success and her track record has few black marks. Of course, this is a Kevin Williamson show -- so...
