Mike Flanagan’s Midnight Mass remains one of his greatest standalone works mainly because it served as a reflection of his personal journey with religion and alcohol addiction. The buzzed-about horror series was initially planned to have a different ending which would set up for a sequel, but this evidently did not get off the ground.

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) showcases the more sentimental side of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. Neon has officially set a release date for the new King adaptation.
The Life of Chuck will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025.
TIFF’s People’s Choice Award winner is split in three separate acts, all linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse. “It’s a Stand By Me for the multiple lives within each of us, pulled between our dreams and down-to-earth pragmatism.” Tom Hiddleston plays the title character.
I wrote in my TIFF review, “It’s the little things that matter most, both in life and in The Life of Chuck. Flanagan finds inventive and stylish ways to remind us of this throughout, shaking loose deep-seated memories from Chuck’s upbringing and highlighting...

The Life Of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Mike Flanagan, is confirmed for a 2025 release.
Coming out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be an awards contender. Not only is this year’s race for Best Picture said to be one of the most open we’ve had for years, but The Life Of Chuck would win TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, historically a strong indicator that a film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Twelve of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.
The film’s US distributor Neon, however, has instead elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot according to Deadline. Not only does that preclude the film...

Flanagan’s fantasy drama, starring Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Harvey Guillén, and more, comes to theaters on May 30, 2025. Variety posted a description for The Life of Chuck in September, saying, “Adapted from Stephen King’s 2020 novella, The Life of Chuck stars Tom Hiddleston and is directed by Mike Flanagan. Billed as a ‘life-affirming’ story about an ordinary man named Charles Krantz, the film is split into three distinct chapters that unfurl in reverse chronological order and are set against the backdrop of a world that appears to be slowly crumbling.

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan believes that “Physical media is critical,” which is not a belief that was shared by his former employers at the Netflix streaming service. Flanagan recently said that he tried very hard to get Netflix to release the work he did for them on Blu-ray and DVD, but they “refused at every turn.” But while several Flanagan projects remain on Netflix and aren’t available on physical media, he did confirm earlier this year that he has taken his 2016 film Hush away from the streaming service so he can give it a long-awaited physical media release. The 4K Uhd and Blu-ray release is coming from Scream Factory on November 26th (copies are available for purchase at This Link) – and they have just revealed that this physical media release of the movie is going to be packed with extras!

Horror enthusiasts have something to look forward to as Kate Siegel (Hush) and David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) will be starring together in the upcoming zombie film Epilogue, which will be produced by one of the kings of horror, Mike Flanagan. Below, we shared all there is to know about this movie so far.
Described as an action-horror flick, Epilogue will be directed by Michael Fimognari. Fimognari is known for directing episodes of the Netflix horror series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher. He will be helming this movie from a script co-written by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.
The story takes place a year after the zombie apocalypse is believed to have ended, and follows a desperate couple searching for a cure for their infected daughter. Although Siegel and Dastmalchian's roles in the film haven't been revealed, our guess is that they'll play the couple.

Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian are both prominent figures in the horror world, so it’s somewhat surprising that their first collaboration came not on a horror project, but on Flanagan’s upcoming movie The Life of Chuck – which, despite being a Stephen King adaptation, is a drama. Today, Deadline has announced that Flanagan and Dastmalchian are set to work together again… and this time the project is a horror film. Flanagan will be producing Epilogue, which Dastmalchian will star in alongside Flanagan’s wife and frequent collaborator Kate Siegel. Michael Fimognari, who worked as cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s work and directed episodes of The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher (not to mention the films To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever), will be directing, working from a screenplay by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.

When Mike Flanagan and Stephen King join forces, it’s game over for their competitors in the horror film universe. Over the years, the legendary author and the veteran filmmaker have worked on a couple of projects that have received incredible ratings from critics. But Flanagan clearly isn’t done with bringing out on-screen adaptations of King’s stories.

The 46-year-old filmmaker has already produced a few critically acclaimed series like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix. The found footage horror anthology series V/H/S was launched in 2012, with the sequels V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral following in 2013 and 2014. There was a spin-off called SiREN in 2016, then the franchise went dormant for a few years… before being revived by the Shudder streaming service, which has had great success delivering a new V/H/S movie every year. There was V/H/S/94 in 2021, V/H/S/99 in 2022, V/H/S/85 in 2023, and V/H/S/Beyond earlier this month. There will be no lack of V/H/S next year, as our friends at Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that Shudder officially announced during the New York Comic Con that V/H/S/8 is in the works and will be receiving a 2025 release. No further details have been revealed.

The seventh instalment in the long-running found footage franchise, V/H/S/Beyond, sees the series change its focus somewhat, from straight forward horror to a science fiction/horror hybrid. While it doesn’t quite follow Jason and the Leprechaun into space, most of the segments do involve aliens or other sci-fi elements.
Directed by Jay Cheel the film’s wraparound “Abduction, Adduction” begins that trend as Mitch Horowitz, host of Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, hosts an investigation of a pair of VHS tapes allegedly found at a flea market, and said to be proof of alien visitation.
That segues into “Stork”, directed by Jordan Downey who co-wrote it with Kevin Stewart based on artwork by Oleg Vdovenko.

This essay by Kate Siegel on her favorite horror movie is one of several contributed as part of Variety’s 100 Best Horror Movies of All Time package.
Reality is subjective. If what I see as blue can be your red, what else is just perception? To keep a grip on sanity, we ignore that thought knocking at the back of our brains. That spinning, mind-melting feeling that makes us question the very earth under our feet and leaves us changed forever.
This is the bleeding heart at the center of “The Others” — a haunting, dread-filled waltz of a movie directed by Alejandro Amenábar and starring Nicole Kidman as Grace, a woman who lives with her two photosensitive children on her darkened old family estate. We’re wrapped up in their family as they begin to believe their house is haunted, and then… I won’t spoil one of my favorite cinematic twists of all time.

The 4K Uhd and Blu-ray release is coming from Scream Factory on November 26th (copies are available for purchase at This Link) – but before we reach that date, Shout! Studios will also be bringing Hush to the big screen! The movie is set to reach U.S. theaters for a special engagement...

Making her directorial debut for “V/H/S/Beyond” with the segment “Stowaway,” Kate Siegel knows she’s asking the world to see her differently. She just doesn’t want to think about it.
“I find it easy to talk about my acting, and I find it easy to talk about filmmaking, but I find it hard to talk about my place in the industry because I don’t want a sense of that,” Siegel told IndieWire. “I can’t allow that to get inside or it might take root and grow a really nasty tree.”
As an actress, Siegel has been there before. She’s known for frequently starring in her husband Mike Flanagan’s work, collaborating with him on projects like “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” and “Hush,” which she also co-wrote. That success came at a cost for Siegel, who rose to fame against sexist bullying...

Plot: Six bloodcurdling tapes unleash horror in a sci-fi inspired hellscape, pushing the boundaries of fear and suspense.
Review: While the last few entries in the V/H/S series have covered specific years like 1999, 1994, and 1985. I’m glad to see the series leaving behind the year-specific branding, and therefore opening the story up to more possibilities. As great as some of those segments were, others felt very constrained by the time. In V/H/S/Beyond, the found VHS tapes claim to prove the existence of extraterrestrial life. But it’s not just aliens, as they take aim at robots and weird taxidermists as well. And it may be my favorite entry yet.
As someone who finds alien stories to be boring and very samey, I wasn’t entirely sold on the concept of Beyond initially. But thankfully there’s enough variety to keep things interesting. The wraparound story does a good job of...

Now streaming on Shudder as the perfect early Halloween treat for found footage fans, V/H/S/Beyond is brimming with mind-bending tales of sci-fi terror from a team of talented filmmakers including Kate Siegel, who makes her directorial debut with "Stowaway." Written by Mike Flanagan and starring Alanah Pearce as an ambitious freelance reporter investigating mysterious lights in the desert sky, "Stowaway" takes a haunting look at the costly price of capturing proof of extraterrestrial life, as well as the gruesome side of space travel when one isn't prepared for it.
To celebrate the release of V/H/S/Beyond, Daily Dead recently had the pleasure of talking with Kate and Alanah about collaborating on the thought-provoking and eerily innovative "Stowaway," including the creative freedom of the found footage format, the sci-fi influences of films such as Contact and The Fly (as well as Stephen King's short story "The Jaunt"), the adventures of filming in the desert,...

Many a horror franchise has been temporarily goosed by an injection of sci-fi — even the slasher at the center of the “Friday the 13th” series went into orbit in the 2001 “Jason X” — but that element doesn’t do a lot to distinguish “V/H/S/Beyond.” This seventh entry in the ersatz found-footage omnibus series should be another reliable draw for genre platform Shudder, where it begins streaming Oct. 4. And the ongoing overall enterprise continues to have value as a launching pad for up-and-coming talents. But despite its new thematic wrinkle, the five segments here feel familiar in ideas and unmemorable in execution. It’s a middling addition to a variably inspired anthology brand that will no doubt trundle on through more installments yet.

Kate Siegel is happy to get very real about extraterrestrial life very quickly. When asked if she believes in aliens, she offers a specific and chilling response.
“I’m a huge sci-fi reader…Ray Bradbury is one of my favorite authors of all time,” she says. “In the world right now there’s a lot of discourse about aliens being real. The needle is turning towards, ‘Yes, aliens exist.’ It’s a matter of when and where we will contact them, and not if they exist. I imagine that aliens are here on this planet and we’ll end up realizing it’s something obvious, like an octopus or a fungi structure is actually an alien that had been here forever. I think the most terrifying realization would be that they were under our noses all the time.”
This analysis makes Siegel the perfect contributor to “V/H/S/Beyond,” the seventh chapter in the horror anthology series,...

With the streaming premiere of V/H/S/Beyond coming up this Friday we were fortunate to spend a moment speaking Kate Siegel, director of the segment, the sci-fi horror short Stowaway. We were joined by their lead actress and a multi-hyphanite herself, Alanah Pearce. Watch as I yammer on with two ladies who know their stuff, who are massively more learned, intelligent and professional than I am. You know that feeling when you're speaking with someone and you think, I could learn an awful lot from this person? Yeah, these two gave me that feeling. Kate speaks about why now was the time to make her directorial debut, what her influences were when making this short (avoiding one that would give away the ending - no spoilers!), the...
