Indian actor Vijay Varma is having a moment. With lead roles in several high-profile streaming projects this year, including the hijacking drama “Ic 814: The Kandahar Hijack” for Netflix, Prime Video’s “Mirzapur” and Disney+ Hotstar’s “Murder Mubarak,” Varma has cemented his position as one of India’s most in-demand performers.

The actor recently wrapped filming on Vibhu Puri’s “Ul Jalool Ishq,” a poetic drama co-starring Naseeruddin Shah about an Urdu letterpress owner searching for a reclusive poet. “It’s a beautiful, intimate story between one person who runs a barely surviving Urdu [press] and he wants to desperately hold on to this letterpress, but nothing is getting printed anymore in Urdu,” Varma tells Variety.

Mumbai, Jan 31 (Ians) Actor Sachin Parikh, who is known for his work in ‘Pk’, ‘Aligarh’, among others, shared that he believes that he is yet to explore the best within him, adding that an artist is always hungry for better roles with good filmmakers.

Sachin, who was recently seen in a pivotal role in Ravi Jadhav’s ‘Main Atal Hoon’, feels that he has not yet explored his full potential in Hindi films.

Actor Vijay Varma, who has started the shooting for his next project ‘Ul Jalool Ishq’ in Amritsar, Punjab, visited the Golden Temple to seek blessings, and his girlfriend Tamannaah Bhatia has a ‘sweet’ compliment for her beau. The movie stars Vijay, alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Naseeruddin Shah. It is written and directed by Vibhu Puri.

Sharing glimpses from his Golden Temple visit on Instagram, Vijay penned a note which read as: “New beginnings need a lot of blessings. Mumbai, March 9 (Ians) Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has a penchant at discovering clutter-breaking films and roles. For this, he has to look out for new storytellers.

Last seen in Vibhu Puri's Hawaizaada, Pallavi Sharda has bagged a prominent role in a Hollywood film titled Lion. Starring Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel among others, Pallavi plays the role of Dev's friend in the film. Based on the novel 'A Long Way Home' by Saroo Birleys, Lion marks the directorial debut of Garth Davis. The film revolves around a boy who is lost in the streets of Calcutta and later adopted by an Australian family. After 25 years, the young lad sets out on a mission to find his real parents and uses Google Earth to track his family. Pallavi's character is that of an Indian girl who helps him in his mission. As far as the shooting for the film is concerned, Pallavi Sharda has already wrapped her scenes for the film in April and May and has returned to her hometown in Melbourne.

Tell us something about your role in Hawaizaada.

Hawaizaada is mostly based on Ayushmann and Mithun-da’s story, my love story. I play a ‘Tamasha’ dancer in the movie. I think my character has come up very well. All thanks to our director Vibhu Puri & my co star Ayushmann Khurrana who encouraged me to give my best to the film.

Flying into theaters this Friday is Hawaizaada, directed by Vibhu Puri and starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Pallavi Sharda and Mithun Chakraborthy. The film, set in Colonial India, 1895, tells the tale of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who invented the first flying plane, which was in fact eight years before the Wright brothers. It also tells the story of the man, his love, his mentor and the struggles he faced to make his dreams fly.

Making his debut as director is Vibhu Puri, but you have heard his work before. The young filmmaker wrote dialogs for both Guzzarish and Sawaariya, and also was the man behind the lyrics for the great songs of Guzzarish.

Puri also wrote the script for Hawaizaada and from his answers in the Q and A, you can tell that he has a real passion for the inspirational story of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade.

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Pallavi Sharda and Mithun Chakraborthy, Hawaizaada, which hits theaters on January 30th, tells the story of the life, love and struggles of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who built the first airplane in 1895, eight years before the Wright Brothers.

To bring the musical world of Hawaizaada to life, director Vibhu Puri brought together an eclectic mix of musical directors that include Rochak Kohli, Mangesh Dhakde, and Vishal Bhardwaj. Also contributing to the Ost is Ayushmann Khurrana in his first outing as a composer.

Coming up on January 30th is Hawaizaada starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Pallavi Sharda and Mithun Chakraborty. The Vibhu Puri directed film set in Bombay in 1895 is based on the life of scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who is credited to have constructed India’s first unmanned plane.

Ayushmann is not only starring the film he has also turned music director and has composed two of the songs. About the recently released ‘Dil-e-Nadaan’, which by the way he also sings he said, “I have composed a ghazal ‘Dil-e-nadaan’ by Mirza Galib for Hawaaizaada and it has come out really well. This is the first time I have composed a song on my own and it was a very satisfying experinence.”

When Ayushmann Khurrana made his debut in Bollywood with Vicky Donor along with John Abraham's production and Shoojit Sircar as the director, the trio decided to make yet another film together titled Hamara Bajaj. Playing the role of a scientist for the first time is Ayushmann Khuranna in the biopic of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade which was initially titled Bambai Fairytale. However, now it has been changed to Hawaizaada. While the director Vibhu Puri reasons that Bambai Fairytale was always the working title, he also stated that as the film progressed, he thought that Hawaizaada was apt for it. Also, Vibhu revealed that they are currently busy with the last leg of shooting in Mumbai. Based in the 70s and 80s, it is a periodic film which will also have Pallavi Sharda playing the role of a tamaasha dancer. Produced by Vishal Gurnani, Hawaizaada will be releasing on October 10.

Despite reports and rumors to the contratry we have confirmation that Ayushmann Khuranna is not part of Akshay Kumar’s next film reportedly titled Mubarakan.

The official statement from his rep reads, “There is no truth whatsoever to the news doing the rounds that ‘Akshay Kumar ropes in Ayushmann Khurrana’ for his next production venture.”

However, the actor has a lot on his plate with performances in Sharat Katariya’s Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bambai Fairytale directed by Vibhu Puri and the John Abraham produced Hamara Bajaj.

Mumbai, Jan 24: Vibhu Puri, who has worked on the dialogues and screenplay of "Guzaarish" and "Saawariya", says the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorials were ahead of their times.

"I come from a school where we are not money spinners. I want to be called an artist. I do not want to be called a money-making machine. As an artist, both 'Saawariya' and 'Guzaarish' were very beautifully crafted films," Puri told Ians.

"I have not seen such richness of emotions in a film. What Sanjay sir has created is amazing. I think 'Saawariya' and 'Guzaarish' were ahead of their times," he added.

The actress is said to be playing a Maharashtrian girl and the film is supposed to be a love story of the girl and British boy which will be essayed by Ayushmann Khurrana. A package of acclaimed diploma films made by the students of Film and Television Institute of India (Ftii), some of whom later became renowned filmmakers, will be showcased at the 2nd Guwahati International Short Film Festival (Gisff).

This Ftii Golden-Jubilee package, earlier screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival (Miff, 2012), comprises diploma films made by filmmakers like Kumar Shahani, Girish Kasaravalli, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sriram Raghavan and Rajan Khosa.

Even though ‘Guzaarish’ is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut foray into music direction, the filmmaker-turned-composer has done an astounding job, aptly capturing the mood and feel of the film that stars Hrithik Roshan as a paraplegic and Aishwarya Rai as his nurse.

Every aspiring filmmaker looks up to his mentor to be at the helm of things when they start with their debut venture and so did Vibhu Puri, associate director and co-writer of Saawariya. Puri was all set with his directorial venture Chenab Gandhi which was to be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But Bhansali made Puri wait for almost a year, something that wasn't appreciated by the young filmmaker. Not wasting anymore time, Vibhu approached Ravi Chopra, who will now be producing the film. Though one would expect a lot of bad blood to run between Bhansali and Puri, but it isn't so. In fact, Puri he has even penned four songs in Guzaarish. As for Chenab Gandhi, there is news that many couple of stars have been short listed for the cast, but their names are yet to be revealed.

Every aspiring filmmaker looks up to his mentor to be at the helm of things when they start with their debut venture and so did Vibhu Puri, associate director and co-writer of Saawariya. Puri was all set with his directorial venture Chenab Gandhi which was to be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But Bhansali made Puri wait for almost a year, something that wasn't appreciated by the young filmmaker. Not wasting anymore time, Vibhu approached Ravi Chopra, who will now be producing the film. Though one would expect a lot of bad blood to run between Bhansali and Puri, but it isn't so. In fact, Puri he has even penned four songs in Guzaarish. March 15, 2010: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s attempt to produce Chenab Gandhi, a story on Frontier Gandhi, was very much in the making up until just a few days ago. The film was being directed by one of his assistants, Vibhu Puri, who had assisted Bhansali on Saawariya earlier. Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan were playing pivotal characters.

Sources reveal that Sanjay Leela Bhansali was not very happy with the director hence has decided to scrap the project.
