- Writer
Cathy Diane Tomlin was born and raised in South Los Angeles, CA. She began taking acting classes at the age of 14, first at Inner City Cultural Center, then at Theater of Arts in Hollywood.
Cathy's fledgling acting career was put on hold when she attended Tuskegee University, an HBCU in Alabama, to study Mechanical Engineering. While there, she managed to find time to perform in a handful of college theater productions. After graduating with honors, she moved to Greenville, SC to start her engineering career. However, she was sidetracked by rediscovering theater and performing in local productions.
Ultimately, Cathy decided to move to New York City (abandoning engineering altogether) to pursue acting full-time. Within a few months, she booked her first acting job as a stand-in on the Cosby Show --- standing in for Tempest Bledsoe and Sabrina Le Beauf --- for the last three seasons of the show. She was cast from a massive open call that saw upwards of 2,000 actors.
In between Off-Off Broadway productions, Cathy had co-starring roles on Daytime Dramas --- All My Children (NY & LA), One Life to Live, Another World, Loving (2 years) and As The World Turns (12 years) --- appeared on Prime Time shows such as Law & Order, and co-starred opposite George Clooney in Michael Clayton.
After many years in NY, Cathy returned to Los Angeles. She studied Commercial acting with Stuart K. Robinson, and Theatrical technique with Will Wallace. She also joined several theater companies ---The Group Rep, The Vagrancy, Theatre 40 and Theatre West. In her free time, Cathy remains active and has been on an Adult League Softball Team for over twenty years.
Since being back in LA, Cathy has performed in Theatre, Film, TV - Primetime/Daytime/Cable, New Media, Print and Voiceover.
