[an alternate view of song-writing] When a song gets stuck in your head, it's a few seconds over and over again. It's never three minutes repeating, it's a few seconds. I realized that there's a kernel in every song, and everything else is built around it. Often that building is done by repetition, so I thought, what if I removed all the repetition and left you only with the kernel?..It wouldn't surprise me at all if ten years down the road it'll be a lot more common to hear songs that are a minute long. People are going to demand it.
