Before Justin Bieber's "Journals," there was Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly."
It was Aug. 30, 2013, and Grande - who rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" - suddenly emerged as a musical superstar with her debut album. Thanks to her dreamy voice and impressive range, the budding phenom, who was then 20 years old, proved she was so much more than just a teen star.
The album was a testament of how '90s R&b, hip-hop, pop, and doo-wop can complement one another. Paired with production by Babyface, The Rascals (Leon Thomas III and Khris Riddick-Tynes), Antonio Dixon, Harmony Samuels, Tommy Brown (aka TBHits), as well as cowriting credits from the aforementioned and Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Jordin Sparks, and Priscilla Renea (now Muni Long), "Yours Truly" was an instant victory. This dream team fused Grande's instinctual talent and musical theater background to formulate an untapped side of her artistry,...

Leon Thomas III will never be more ready to go solo. Since he was a kid, the actor, singer, songwriter, and producer has always been a piece of a bigger whole - whether he was starring in a Broadway play, ensemble cast on a Nickelodeon show, or in the studio cooking up hits for your favorite artist. But now, the 29-year-old tells Popsugar that it feels like the "perfect time" to break off as his own entity and "let people know what I can do as an artist."
"I was able to start hearing my voice for the first time and feeling connected to singing and music in a different way than I had ever been before."
Thomas is still primarily being recognized for his "Victorious" role, which he admits, at one point, "kind of bothered" him. "I had to really circle back and realize I used to do that,...

Sanders’ passing was announced on Saturday (Sept. 24) by his record label Luaka Bop, which released the influential jazz musician’s 2021 album, Promises, a collaboration with Floating Points and the London Symphony Orchestra. A cause of death was not provided.

When he saved the recording to his iTunes, he named the file “Love Jones ft. After seven Grammy nominations without a full-length album, Giveon has finally released his debut, Give or Take. Over 16 tracks, the singer delivers some of his most personal ballads to date, with help from top-flight producers like Bo-1da, Jahaan Sweet, Sevyn Thomas and Leon Thomas. It was just the album he wanted to make — a place to say everything he wanted to say.
“Every time I am making a song or writing a story, at the moment, I don’t have the intention of where that will be placed,” he says.

A gripping and powerful new trailer has been released for Detroit. The trailer centers around John Boyega's character being interrogated by the police for the killing of three people. It looks like Boyega gives an incredible performance in this movie. I also included a new featurette that focuses on the true events that the film is based on, which is intriguing and eye-opening. It features interviews with the actual individuals who were involved with these events.

The trailer depicts a dark and racially charged Us, Detroit to be precise, at the height of the 1967 troubles. Starting with a detained John Boyega as he starts to relay the events of that fateful night where three youngsters were killed, leading to a police raid of excessive gunfire which sees the community take to violent protest. As the trailer unfolds, the two arrogant cops turn the tables on Boyega to lay blame at his feet as war rages on the street whilst “Change is Coming” rings out.

During the long, hot summer of 1967, the city of Detroit erupted into a full-blown war zone as police clashed with the predominantly Africa-American population of the inner city.
That civil disturbance, one which would go on to become one of the costliest in American history, was reportedly sparked by a police raid of an unlicensed bar in mid-July, leading to four terrifying days and nights of fiercely controversial incidents, such as the Algiers Motel killings. All of this and more is teased in the tense first trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s drama, which finds John Boyega’s (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) security guard under interrogation. It’s a remarkably intense and effective scene, and one that tees up the calm before the oncoming storm.
Assuming Bigelow’s real-life drama stays true to the history books – and we’re inclined to believe it will – the story of Detroit will likely unfold over those four days,...

Academy Award-winning director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, Kathryn Bigelow looks all set to deliver the high stakes yet again with her next project if the brand new trailer for Detroit is anything to go by.
Bigelow has reunited with screenwriter Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) to tell the gripping story of one of the darkest moments during the civil unrest that rocked Detroit in the summer of 1967, a story of a simple police raid resulting in one of the largest citizen uprisings in the United States history.
Starting the trailer with footage that seems to have been taken from the archives of this fateful time, we are introduced to Boyega as a Us Army Marshall, on the phone, simply stating “I’ll sleep when they stop rioting” before diving into the action with what starts as a harmless conversation between...

Kathryn Bigelow has spent the latter part of her career making films that vibrate with the pulse of the nation. “The Hurt Locker” zeroed in on the fallout from the Iraq War, “Zero Dark Thirty” brought audiences inside the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, and now her latest film “Detroit,” about racial conflict in the city in the late ’60s, is strikingly relevant.
An absolutely staggering cast including John Boyega, John Krasinski, Jason Mitchell, Anthony Mackie, Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, Joseph David-Jones, Algee Smith, Ben O’Toole, Jack Reynor, Kaitlyn Dever, Hannah Murray, Jeremy Strong, Chris Chalk, Austin Hébert, Ephraim Sykes, Laz Alonso, Nathan Davis Jr., Malcolm David Kelley, Peyton Alex Smith and Leon Thomas III, make up the crime drama that’s set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating riots that took place over five haunting summer days in 1967.

Annapurna Pictures is launching a “long planned, full-service distribution and marketing operation” with Kathryn Bigelow’s “Untitled Detroit Project,” according to a statement. The new division will be overseen by president Marc Weinstock, president of marketing David Kaminow, president of distribution Erik Lomis and their respective teams.
Directed by Bigelow, “Untitled Detroit Project” is a crime-drama set against the backdrop of Detroit’s 1967 riots. Bigelow is a producer alongside Annapurna’s Megan Ellison and Matthew Budman. The film’s release date will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the riots.
“Kathryn’s ‘Untitled Detroit Project’ is exemplary of the type of films we will be distributing,” Weinstock said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more confident in the team we are establishing to distribute and market the film in a way that is as creative and masterful as her film is.”
Mark Boal wrote the script and is producing alongside Colin Wilson.

Camila Cabello isn’t the only member of Fifth Harmony who’s flexing out her solo chops: it looks like Lauren Jauregui is about to join the party, too, judging by some recent posts on social media.
According to Instagram, Jauregui is in the studio making some noise with producers such as The Rascals, Ljay Currie, and Tim Suby. Fun fact of the day with The Rascals is that one part of the production duo consists of Leon Thomas III, who was previously best known for starring role on the hit Nickelodeon show, Victorious. The reason why this is relevant is because, besides the fact that he’s a great producer, he worked with fellow Victorious co-star Ariana Grande on her debut record, Yours Truly. If Jauregui’s sound is supposed to have any resemblance whatsoever of Grande’s era from way back when, then we’re going to be in for a treat.
