Adolf El Assal is a Luxembourgish filmmaker and producer born in Egypt. Known for blending humor with serious themes in his movies, one of his most recognized feature films is "Sawah", which narrates the tale of a DJ, who loses his identity and mistakenly ends up in a country he's never heard of before.
With his diverse background shaping his work, El Assal has garnered recognition at various international film festivals, highlighting his unique and versatile approach to filmmaking. After graduating with a MA in Filmmaking in 2008, he directed the award-winning short films "La Fameuse Route...". and "Mano de Dios".
In 2014, he completed his first feature film LES (FAMEUX) GARS, which was successfully distributed in French-speaking territories. His latest project is "Baraki", a critically-acclaimed and popular Belgian television series that he co-directed, is streaming on Netflix France and Benelux.
Ady is also a two-times Berlinale Talents alumni (2006 & 2023) and a member of the European Film Academy as well as EAVE and Screen Leaders.
