Dean Reading was born in Houston and raised on Texas ranches, first in Fort Bend County and later in Cherokee County. As a youngster he had small parts in the film "Tomboy and the Champ" and the TV series "Route 66." While in high school he started competing in youth rodeos as a tie-down calf roper and steer wrestler. He went on to compete in college and professional rodeos. Graduating from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas with a Bachelor's Degree in History and English, he taught in public schools for a year before hitting the road as a competitor in PRCA rodeos. Ending up in California, Dean did some stunt work in low budget films while still competing in rodeos. When he left the west coast, he went back to Texas, and worked on the family ranch. Later Dean married, moved to Fort Worth and went to technical school studying TV and film production. After graduating from that course he taught it for two years, In 1982, he went to work for Group W Productions and Group W Cable producing local, regional, and syndicated productions. Dean won the National Focus Award for Excellence in Production in 1984. He began competing in his friend Ben Johnson's Pro-Celebrity Rodeo events in the eighties and early nineties. For two years Dean worked for Mike Perkins Casting as Assistant Location Casting Director, and at the same time taught Advanced Film Acting at Actor's Preparatory Studio in Fort Worth..As an actor Dean worked on network series including "Young Riders", Dallas", "Unsolved Mysteries", and "The Son" just to name a few. He directed two features, "The Wind Favors West" and "The Broken Spur" and wrote & directed many TV shows including "Texas Traditions", Entertainment Clipboard" and "Six Shooter Junction". Dean has written several scripts over the years, and has taught Film History at the university level..Dean resides on a Texas ranch raising Longhorn cattle and registered Quarter Horses.
