Gerrard Southam

Gerrard Southam has worked in Visual Effects and Animation for almost two decades. He studied traditional character animation in Auckland, before gaining a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication from Unitec. He has worked for most of the major film studios including, Disney, Sony Imageworks, Paramount and Warner Brothers. He has lived and worked in Auckland, Los Angeles, Prague and currently in Sydney Australia. He has helped pre-visualize projects for Peter Jackson, Andrew Adamson, Tim Burton and most recently Ron Howard. He has worked for the Third Floor (2008), Weta Digital (2010) and most recently Animal Logic (2016). He is supervising an Emmy Award nominated Team at Sydney-based studio, Flying Bark (2022). Gerrard has a strong commitment to visual storytelling and a strong technical understanding of the previs process. He has built and set up numerous pipelines and animated workflows. He has lectured and taught at The University of Technology Sydney as well as AFTRS and UNSW. He loves to explore the art of animation and an incredible and wide range of stories and styles that can be told through this unique and timeless medium.
