Dan Ewing in ‘Love and Monsters.’
Dan Ewing makes his Hollywood debut in Paramount Pictures’ comedy-adventure Love and Monsters, which follows humans who were forced underground after giant creatures took control of the land.
Formerly known as Monster Problems, the Queensland-shot film directed by South African-born Michael Matthews stars Dylan O’Brien as Joel Dawson, who reconnects over the radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick).
Aiming to rekindle their romance, he ventures out to find her, battling all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way.
Ewing plays Cap, a former naval officer who is giving Aimee and members of her colony sanctuary at sea. “My character has seen the brutal horrors of what these creatures are capable of and offers the colonists a real chance at survival,” the former Home and Away star tells If.
“Very Noah’s Ark. He also puts a great spanner in the works for Joel.

Tess Haubrich in ‘Bad Mothers’.
Tess Haubrich jumped at the chance to play a key role in Bad Mothers at very short notice after Jessica Marais was forced to withdraw for health reasons – not least because she had never worked with female directors.
Sian Davies, Catriona McKenzie and Geoff Bennett directed the Nine Network’s ensemble comedy-drama from Jungle Entertainment and Filthy Productions.
“It’s quite shocking that I had never worked on shows with female directors, except on short films,” says Haubrich, whose credits include Pine Gap, Wolf Creek 2, Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the Jackie Chan starrer Bleeding Steel and the Turner-Roache brothers Nekrotronic.
The Sydney-based actress was told one Friday night that she had won the role of Sarah in Bad Mothers and on the following Monday morning was in Melbourne for the start of two weeks pre-production.

The cast of ‘Bad Mothers’
As parents, Gavin Strawhan and Rachel Lang agreed that being a mother can be an impossible job and that no matter how hard they try, women will sometimes feel they are bad mothers.
The Auckland-based founders of Filthy Productions came up with the concept of a comedy-drama about five mums whose kids go to the same school, overlaid with a murder mystery, and pitched it to the Nine Network.
Execs at Nine suggested Strawhan and Lang find an Australian partner, which turned out to be Jungle Entertainment. The result is Bad Mothers, which launches on Nine at 9 pm on February 18 and across the ditch on Tvnz on February 20.
The ensemble show stars Tess Haubrich as Sarah, whose perfect life as a Gp, wife and mother is shattered when she discovers her husband Anton (Daniel MacPherson) is having an affair. Even worse, her best friend is...

Harry Greenwood.
Harry Greenwood graduated from Nida in 2012, so being named one of the Casting Guild of Australia’s 10 Rising Stars of 2018 could be considered as long overdue recognition.
“It has been a long haul,” the 29-year-old son of Hugo Weaving and artist Katrina Greenwood tells If. “It is nice to be recognised.”
Greenwood’s career has been on an upward trajectory since his breakthrough role as young Digger Bevan Johnson, the older brother of Kodi Smit-McPhee’s Thomas Johnson, in the 2015 Nine Network miniseries Gallipoli directed by Glendyn Ivin.
Next year could well be his biggest yet as he will be seen in Bad Mothers, the eight-part Nine Network comedy/drama from Jungle Entertainment and New Zealand-based Filthy Productions, and in two high-profile features: Justin Kurzel’s True History of the Kelly Gang and Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale.

Eighteen years since SeaChange ended its 39-episodes run on the ABC, Sigrid Thornton and John Howard will be back on screen in 2019 in a contemporary version of the show created by Andrew Knight and Deborah Cox.
The Nine Network has commissioned eight one hour episodes as a co-production between ITV Studios Australia and Every Cloud Productions. Actor Jessica Tovey explains that without trust, consent and transparency on set, traumatic scenes can have traumatic repercussions
Once, before filming an intimate scene, my director sat my male co-star and me down with some Barbie dolls. She wanted to take us through exactly how we were going to do it on screen – how we would position our bodies, where the camera would be. She wanted to make us feel comfortable about something that is awkward and difficult to shoot by empowering us with knowledge about what we were about to do.
I’ve experienced similar care when shooting scenes of violence – when playing roles where I was kidnapped, assaulted, bound and gagged; ones where I had chairs hurled at me and had been thrown across a room. There were always strict protocols in place to avoid injury – but even then, when the camera rolled and my fellow actor performed...

Lemon Tree Passage is an Australian Horror-Thriller that is set around the local ghost story that goes like this: A tormented biker that was struck and killed in a hit and run now apparently haunts the backroads of a small Australian town.
Three American Backpackers, Maya (Jessica Tovey), Amelia (Pippa Black) and Sam (Nicholas Gunn), meet a couple of Aussie larrikins, Geordie (Tim Phillips) and Oscar (Andrew Ryan), that recite the spooky urban legend to the trio and off they all go to test the theory. Unsurprisingly, horror ensues.
Lemon Tree Passage starts off strong. There’s a few good scares, the cast are all particularly strong and the atmosphere is quite effective, due to some superb cinematography.
The problem comes later as the story progresses. The plot developments come off feeling more than a little silly and contrived, dispensing of the great atmosphere...

The tables are turned on serial killer Mick Taylor in the latest iteration of Wolf Creek commissioned by Stan, which starts shooting today at the Adelaide Studios and numerous locations in South Australia.
Vampire Academy.s Lucy Fry plays Eve, an American tourist in the six-part series directed by Tony Tilse and Greg Mclean, scripted by Peter Gawler and Felicity Packard.
John Jarratt.s Mick sets out to murder Eve.s family but she survives, rebuilds her shattered existence and vows revenge.
The series will have a markedly different tone to Mclean.s horror movies, focusing on Eve.s journey. Stan content and product director Nick Forward tells If, .No one wanted to make a 6-hour horror movie. We spent six months with the producers and writers looking for a hook for a televisual drama.
.Mick Taylor is still the grim reaper but this is a thriller about Eve.s journey.

After getting a look at the new international poster for John Curran’s Tracks earlier this week, eOne has launched the new UK trailer ahead of its release on our shores in the spring.
The film made its debut out in Venice at the tail-end of last summer, with Mia Wasikowska (Lawless, Alice in Wonderland) starring in the lead, garnering some early buzz for her performance.
Robyn (Mia Wasikowska) spends two hardscrabble years in the Alice Springs area learning how to train and care for camels (feral herds of which number in the thousands in Western Australia) in order to prepare for her journey. Finally ready to embark with her animals, she realizes she is woefully underfunded and, despite her desires for self-sufficiency, accepts a fee from National Geographic in exchange for a written piece. The magazine adds a condition: she must allow photographer Rick Smolan (Adam Driver) to photograph...

“Two Mothers” is from director Anne Fontaine (“Coco Before Chanel”), based on the book “The Grandmothers” by Doris Lessing. The film looks like a serious exploration of what happens when you fall in love with your best friend’s teenage son. And, er, your teenage son falls in love with her. Complications, as they say, ensue. Of course, this being Hollywood, the older women are played by spectacularly gorgeous gals. That would be Naomi Watts and Robin Wright, playing the childhood friends and older women, with Xavier Samuel and James Frecheville playing their teenage sons/lovers. “Two Mothers” is set to make its debut at Sundance next year. Also starring Ben Mendelsohn, Sophie Lowe, Gary Sweet, Jessica Tovey, and Alyson Standen...

Almost exactly two months after our first report, The Grandmothers has added a few more to its cast. As Australian site If (via ThePlaylist) reports, Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom, The Place Beyond the Pines), one-time Lisbeth Salander candidate Sophie Lowe, Gary Sweet, and Jessica Tovey have all boarded the film, which already stars Robin Wright, Naomi Watts, James Frecheville, and Xavier Samuel.
Based on a story by Doris Lessing, the Anne Fontaine-directed, Christopher Hampton-written picture stars Wright and Watts as “two lifelong friends who fall in love with each others’ teenage sons.” I guessed back in December that Frecheville and Samuel would be playing the sons, due to pertinent factors like age and general physical appearance, and this latest casting makes it even more likely — unless the teenage boys will be played by a 42 and 54-year-old men. Now that would be interesting.

While his turn as the unstable Pope in "Animal Kingdom" turned heads, Ben Mendelsohn's first couple attempts to conquer Hollywood haven't quite worked out. Last fall he featured in"Killer Elite" and the disastrous Nic Cage/Nicole Kidman vehicle "Trespass." But, looking much more promising, he's got "Cogan's Trade" and "The Place Beyond The Pines" hitting theaters (or at least festivals) sometime this year, and he's lining up another project with some serious predigree. Along with model turned actress Sophie Lowe, Aussie TV actor Gary Sweet and newcomer Jessica Tovey, Mendolsohn has come aboard "The Grandmothers" with Naomi Watts and Robin Wright.
