Director Osgood Perkins brings full flavor to a familiar fairy tale with Gretel & Hansel.
"A fairy tale has a way of getting into your head," promises the new Gretel & Hansel trailer. "Even before you hear it." Directed by Osgood Perkins, the upcoming adaptation of the classic cautionary story from the Brothers Grimm looks like it will leave a trail of breadcrumbs to the dark subconscious. And the oven hasn't even been pre-heated.
Orion Pictures’ Gretel & Hansel stars Sophia Lillis as Gretel, and Sammy Leakey as her hungry little brother. The huntsman is played by Charles Babalola. Holda, the culinary crone, is played by Alice Krige. Jessica De Gouw plays the Young Holda. The screenplay was written by Rob Hayes.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the filmmakers. **there are minor spoilers here. Director: Hank Braxtan. Writers: Dan Sinclair, Hank Braxtan, Arielle Brachfeld, and Natalie Victoria. Cast: Natalie Victoria, Arielle Brachfeld, Stephanie Greco and Lacy Fisher. Chemical Peel is a smallish horror feature. This title was released earlier in the year (Oct. 14th, 2014), through Lions Gate Entertainment. A film about a toxic chemical spill, Chemical Peel spends most of its ninety-five minute runtime with bickering characters. Several so-called friends, at a bachelorette party, are more toxic than the mist outside. Shot almost entirely inside one location, the film is an exercise in what not to do in a catastrophe. Characters act in cowardly and idiotic ways, which makes Chemical Peel a difficult watch. A group of girls gather for a night of drinking and celebrating. Fifteen minutes into the story, it is finally revealed that the girls have come together.

The latest pseudo ripoff by The Asylum is Hansel Gretel clearly intended to springboard off of the promotion and popularity of Hansel Gretel Witch Hunters. The story is about a sickeningly sweet bakery owner (Dee Wallace) who has a secret craving and dark supernatural leanings and her star employee who is none other than Gretel herself (Stephanie Greco). Gretel of course has a brother Hansel (Brent Lydic) who is a bit troubled after the loss of his mother and even worse for wear with the knowledge that his widowed father is about to marry is very young girlfriend. Soon enough the duo discovers that the sweet shop owner is hungry very hungry and the two of them are possibly on the menu.

The Asylum recently released Hansel & Gretel, a modern take on the classic story that stars Dee Wallace as the witch. While we talked about her interest in playing the villain in Hansel & Gretel, I also learned about why she likes to perform many of her own stunts, and she told me about her time working with Rob Zombie on The Lords of Salem:
You recently appeared as the witch in Hansel & Gretel. Why were you interested in taking on this particular role?
Dee Wallace: First of all, because Anthony Ferrante approached me. I worked once with Anthony and I think he’s a brilliant new director, and a truly nice guy. When I read the script, I thought it was such an innovative take on the Hansel and Gretel story. It stays very true to the story, but updates it in a way that is good for 2013 and the horror genre.

Dee Wallace is well known in genre circles. Perhaps best known as “E.T.’s mom” (actually Elliot’s mom, but when you are a kid, everything revolves around E.T.) she has starred in well over 100 films, including Cujo, The Hills Have Eyes, Critters, Popcorn, The Frighteners, The Howling, and Halloween (2007). Her two most recent genre outings are Hansel and Gretel (no relation to the Jeremy Renner version) and Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem. She opened up to us about low-budget filmmaking and working with Rob Zombie.
How did you get involved in Hansel and Gretel?
Anthony Ferrante, the director, called me up and said, “Please, will you do this?” I loved the take on this story that they had come up with. I thought it was very true to the original story, and yet very creative, bringing it into the 2013 horror genre. Most of all, I just really respect Anthony.

We’re used to seeing Dee Wallace as the heroine being terrorized in a myriad of horror films. A new take on the classic fairy tale Hansel & Gretel will let her do the terrorizing for a change, and she may have worse things is store for the brother and sister besides cannibalism.
With the absurd looking Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters set to put a new spin on the classic fairy tale, it's not surprising The Asylum would want to get in on the action with its own version.
Synopsis:
In this modern retelling of the classic horror tale, teen siblings are enslaved by a psychotic recluse within her gruesome house of horrors in the woods.
Dee Wallace (Gremlins, Cujo, The Howling) stars as the horrifying hermit who traditionally has questionable culinary intentions directed at the famous siblings when they make the grave mistake of entering her humble abode.

We’ve been delivering you the goods on director Hank Braxtan’s feature Chemical Peel for some time. Now we bring you the first look at a trailer for the flick, which is described as a cross between Cabin Fever and The Mist.
Starring DeadHeads actress Natalie Victoria, Chemical Peel revolves around a group of girls trapped in a remote cabin by an unknown danger which lurks outside (and inside as well, if the trailer is any indication) and, in addition to Victoria, features newcomers Arielle Brachfeld, Stephanie Greco, Lacy Fisher and Leigh Davis, with Lonye Perrine rounding out the female ensemble cast. 17 Road Films produces.

The first teaser trailer for this summer’s The Haunting of Whaley House proves once more that ghost hunting should be left to professionals, preferably the pros wearing proton packs.
The Asylum has been on something of a roll of late and they hope that roll continues with their upcoming spookfest The Haunting of Whaley House.
Penny (Stephanie Greco) is a skeptic, despite the fact that she works as a tour guide at The Whaley House, considered America's most haunted house. With a title like The Haunting of Whaley House, Asylum Pictures has another imitation product about a real life haunted estate in the works. This studio has built a reputation of creating some way out of the way horror titles. The last one in this particular supernatural genre was Amityville Haunting (2011). In this latest, America's most haunted house in the west coast of America, located in San Diego, gets center stage. Whaley House is reputed to be spooked by many a spirit.
This film stars Stephanie Greco (Chemical Peel, Phoenix Falling) and Graham Denman (Sick Girl, Eyes of the Woods) in the lead roles of Penny and Craig. They get a private tour of the home and get more than they bargained for. Along for the ride are fellow performers, Alex Arleo, Arielle Brachfeld and Carolina Groppa.
