Sigmar Gabriel
1975 Realschulabschluss, 1979 Abitur. Military service for 2 years. Studied German, politics and sociology at the University of Göttingen, 1987 First State Examination for the teaching profession at grammar schools (German, social studies), 1989 Second State Examination.
1981 to 1990 lecturer in adult education.
Member of AWO, IG Metall and SJD-Die Falken. Holder of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit.
Joined the SPD in 1977, 1976 to 1989 voluntary youth work in the SPD-affiliated Falken youth organization; since 2003 district chairman of the SPD in Braunschweig, 1999 to 2005 member of the federal party executive. From 1987 to 1998, member of the Goslar district council; from 1991 to 1999, member of the Goslar city council; from 1990 to 2005, member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1998 to 1999 and from 2003 to 2005; from 1999 to 2003, minister president of the state of Lower Saxony.
Member of the Bundestag since 2005; Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety since November 22, 2005.
