Former Shudder chief Craig Engler left the streaming service a couple months ago, shortly after overseeing the release of the horror film Skinamarink, which was made on a budget of $15,000 and earned over $2 million during its theatrical run. Now Variety reports that Engler has teamed up with The Cartel, the production company behind Shudder’s Creepshow series, to launch Shiver Studios, “a new genre company with plans to make and finance up to 10 horror films a year”!
Variety explains that the Los Angeles-based studio will focus on a theatrical-first approach, looking to ride the recent trend of indie horror hits. The overall plan is for Shiver to follow its theatrical releases with a Tvod, SVOD, AVOD, linear and physical windowing strategy, working with partners that include both streamers and traditional distributors.
The first two films on the Shiver Studios development slate are Incident at Joshua Tree and Bloody Mary.

The "John Wick" films feature some of the most gun-heavy action sequences in recent cinema history. In fact, the entire franchise is partly a resurrection of the popular "gun fu" style of martial arts action that came out of Hong Kong in the late nineties. However, director and stunt expert Chad Stahelski doesn't use the same type of blanks that can result in real-life deaths like the tragedies on the sets of "Rust" and "The Crow." According to Stahelski, filmmakers don't have to risk the deadly capabilities of blanks, either, since there exists technology that allows for much safer firearms practices during shoots. The director theorizes that it may be because of the backlog of guns in prop houses that productions continue to use more dangerous blanks to this day, despite not needing to.
Blank firearms have been a staple of filmmaking for decades, despite their potential for disaster. Incidents are relatively rare,...

“Van Helsing” fans will get to sink their teeth into the fantasy drama one last time.
Syfy has announced it is renewing the vampire show for a fifth and final outing. The news comes only a few days ahead of the season 4 finale, which airs on Dec. 20.
“Van Helsing” is set in a world dominated and controlled by vampires. Season 4 continues the story of Vanessa Van Helsing and her band of heroes as they fight to reclaim the world after vampires took over during “The Rising.”
The most recent season of the show is averaging just under 300,000 total viewers through 12 episodes in the Live+Same Day ratings, down from the 380,000 average viewers who tuned in to season 3. Those numbers place it as the second least watched series on the network, only in front of “Happy!” which was canceled after a single season back in June.

BBC Three put Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding’s wilfully shambolic live act and radio series, The Mighty Boosh, on TV…
Part of The Mighty Boosh’s delight comes from its unlikelihood as a TV sitcom. Its boundless Day-Glo imagination isn’t an immediate fit with the constraints of the form. Reports of a Mighty Boosh revival have been greatly exaggerated, according to one half of surreal comedy duo
Comedian Noel Fielding has denied reports that The Mighty Boosh are set to reform for a tour and a film.
Reports circulated on Monday, including on this website, that Fielding and his former comedy partner Julian Barratt were working on new material, after the Mail on Sunday quoted Fielding as saying: "We're going on tour early in the New Year."
Fielding and Barratt had reunited as the surrealist double act last November after four years away. Following two warm-up gigs at the Soho theatre in London, they performed a half-hour set – a mixture of old and new material – at Jack Black's Festival Supreme in California as their alter-egos Vince Noir and Howard Moon. They were joined by regular collaborators Dave Brown, who plays Bollo the Ape, and Rich Fulcher.

On January 5, Fielding was quoted by the Mail on Sunday as saying that he and Julian Barratt were planning on a UK tour and possible movie later this year.
However, Fielding has since taken to Twitter to dismiss the quotes, stating that he has not spoken to the tabloid newspaper.

With three weeks left until 2009 San Diego Comic Con is kicked off, the number of guests attending the international event is growing. Most of these guests are the lead actors, the creator(s) or the executive producer(s) who will give support to their respective show during the panels.
Fox was the one who came up with its list first, confirming the participation of Eliza Dushku and creator Josh Whedon in support of "Dollhouse". But newly announced are the guests for Sci-Fi series like "Warehouse 13", "Stargate Universe" and "Sanctuary". Expected to represent these three series are Eddie McClintock, Robert Carlyle and Amanda Tapping respectively.
"Caprica" in particular, will share the Ballroom 20 with TV movie "Battlestar Galactica: The Plan". Therefore, the actors and producers in support are the people behind the two productions: Edward James Olmos, Ronald D. Moore, David Eick, Jane Espenson and Esai Morales.

BBC America has picked a handful of ambassadors to represent the cable channel's highest rated programs at Comic-Con this July 24-26. Among the selected attendees are David Tennant of Dr. Who fame, the outlandish funnymen of "The Mighty Boosh," and cast members from primetime sensations "Torchwood" and "Being Human."
On Friday, July 24, BBC America will launch its weekend of panel discussions and exclusive screenings with a trip into the bizarre comedy territory of the BAFTA-nominated comedy "The Mighty Boosh." Creator-stars Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding will be accompanied by actors Michael Fielding, Rich Fulcher and Dave Brown and will jokingly jawbone about the truly fantastical cult phenomenon now airing on Adult Swim.
On Saturday, followers of BBC America's highest rated program "Torchwood" will have the opportunity to see the first leg of a five-piece special, "Children of Earth." A panel discussion will be held on Sunday so that attendees may...

Holy Tardis! BBC America just shocked the hell out of me by announcing that they will be bringing Doctor Who's David Tennant--yes, the Doctor himself--and writer/executive producer Russell T. Davies, director Euros Lyn, and executive producer Julie Gardner to Comic-Con San Diego next month. The quartet will be participating in a panel for Doctor Who, shortly after Tennant has completed his legendary run on the British sci-fi series, that is scheduled for Sunday morning at 10 am Pt. And if that weren't enough to get you salivating, BBC America also had me jumping for joy by announcing that Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Michael Fielding, Rich Fulcher, and Dave Brown--the stars of the surreal and hysterical comedy series The Mighty Boosh--will also be dropping by Comic-Con this year with a panel slated to run on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm Pt. The digital cabler also announced panels...

If you watch [Adult Swim] as much as I do, than you have noticed over the past year or so the huge influx of British humor in the way of BBC television. With Look Around You and Garth Marenghi's Darkplace already in [Adult Swim]'s line-up they have added another show that is, simply put, a humor powerhouse. It is a British mega hit known simply as The Mighty Boosh. The Mighty Boosh is the brainchild of two British comedians, Julian Barrett and Noel Fielding, and it is one of the most random yet most entertaining shows you're going to see around.
The Mighty Boosh has won the NME award from 2007-2009 for best TV show, and in between those won an Rts Program Award for situational comedy and comedy drama. What I am saying is this: [Adult Swim] has added another amazing and satisfying show to their already stellar line-up.

The Mighty Boosh's Noel Fielding and Dave Brown will produce Kasabian's new video, say reports. According to The Sun, the promo for the Leicester rock band's comeback single 'Vlad The Impaler' will be directed by Fielding. Brown, who plays Bollo the ape in the cult BBC comedy, and The It Crowd's Richard Ayoade will apparently star in the ten-minute film. "The Kasabian boys have wanted to work with Noel for ages. Initially it was mooted that he would design the album artwork," said a source. (more)...
