While they may not necessarily be the villains and get all the glory, there's something to be said for the douchebag characters of the horror genre- they often add to the drama of any given situation, they generally complicate things and they make it oh, so fun to hate them.

That being said, I thought it might be kind of fun to look back at some of my favorite douchebag characters of the horror genre- past and present. The only rule? They aren't the film's "big bad." Be forewarned, though: If you haven't seen some of these films, this countdown may get a little spoiler-y for you.

So, in the immortal words of Kanye West, "Let's have a toast for the douchebags" and check out some of this writer's favorite unsavory characters in the horror genre of all time.

The trailer of the first season of the Canadian TV series Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is already online. The first season of this half-hour series will premiere on Space, a Canadian cable network dedicated to sci-fi shows, on September 29 at 9 Pm with two back-to-back episodes.

This TV series shot in Winnipeg takes place in a High school. Inside this school, there's a book that can unleash hell, put an end to the world or satisfy someone's deepest desire at a steep price. Resident Evil: Afterlife kicks off right where its predecessor Extinction faded away; Alice and her little army of clones hit the insidious and evil Umbrella Corporation hard in Tokyo. The Japanese based installation is overrun and destroyed, and all of the clones are destroyed along with it - a heavy (and slightly convenient) toll. Worse is that Alice drops her common sense in order to deliver a cheesy one-liner, which sets her up to get hypodermically pricked by trickster mastermind and incredibly snappy dresser Albert Wesker. Alice is injected with a compound that effectively strips her of her oh wow super T-Virus powers. It is back to guns for Alice.

Ok, so I'm not an over zealous Resident Evil movie fan that waits on bated breath for every new installment to come out. That I can admit. However after seeing this new clip that we've been shown today I have to say I am more excited now then I have ever been. From constant slow motion action and ass kicking music to literally more zombies physically on screen then I've ever seen before I have to give it to the crew on this film. Sony Screen Gems has today sent us the trailer and some images from the film, along with the official synopsis.

Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth instalment adapted from the hit video games, will this time be in 3D when it hits the big screen on September 10.

It's helmed by British director Paul W.S. Anderson, who was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and was the youngest BA Film & Literature graduate here at Coventry's University of Warwick.

Paul - who's married to franchise star Milla Jovovich - wrote and produced all four of the Resident Evil films, directing the first and fourth but not the second (2004's Resident Evil: Apocalypse was made by Alexander Witt) or third (2007's Resident Evil: Extinction was helmed by Russell Mulcahy).

Last year Entertainment Tonight visited the Toronto locations of Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, while just this week they premiered their on set footage that features interviews with Milla Jovovich as Alice, Ali Larter as Claire Redfield and Shawn Roberts as super-villain Albert Wesker. Sony Screen Gems will be premiering the Redband trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife this Friday night at WonderCon, and is slated to hit the web at 2:15pm on Saturday after it debuts in San Francisco. Screen Gems has debuted a batch of five badass new photos as a first look at Resident Evil: Afterlife on MySpace, which apparently already finished shooting late last year. Director Paul W.S. Anderson somehow got Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter to return again, and you'll see them, as well as a crazy hooded butcher guy, in the photos below. Although I'm not a really a fan of the Resident Evil, these photos are pretty damn cool.
