Mexico City, May 23 (Ians) Fernando Ortiz has stepped down as manager of Club America after 14 months in the role, the Mexican side said.

The announcement came just hours after America’s defeat to Guadalajara in the semifinals of the Liga Mx Clausura tournament.

“Club America informs that Fernando Ortiz will not continue as manager of the men’s team and that his cycle has concluded,” read a club statement.

Ortiz had been in charge of the Mexican giants since March last year, when he replaced fellow Argentine Santiago Solari, a Xinhua report said.

America said it would not rush to appoint a successor to the 45-year-old.

“We will analyze what happened in the tournament and the situation with the team in-depth,” Club America president Santiago Banos said on social media.

Madrid, May 27 (Ians) Zinedine Zidane has resigned as head coach of Real Madrid, the Spanish club said on Thursday.

"It is now time to respect his decision and show our appreciation for his professionalism, dedication and passion throughout all these years, and for what he represents as his figure for Real Madrid," the club said in a statement, Dpa reports.

The World Cup-winning former France captain had a contract until June 2022 but had reportedly already told Real Madrid players earlier in May he would leave the club at the end of 2020-21 season.

Zidane won Champions League three times and Spanish league twice in two spells as Real Madrid coach.
