Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse wowed audiences everywhere and became a bigger box office success than its predecessor. The Miles Morales-centric sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells a more epic story that cannot be contained in one film, which is why it ends on a cliffhanger and will be picking up with the follow-up, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, Sony has an extra bit of a Spider-Verse story up their sleeve. A short from Sony Animation titled The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story would premiere at the Annecy International Film Festival last summer.
Variety now reports that The Spider Within will be made available on YouTube as Sony Pictures partners with the Kevin Love Fund. The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is a bold look into the mental health of Miles Morales. Updated, Sunday Am after Saturday Pm writethru: Disney/Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder held steady on Saturday, despite those lower than normal CinemaScore and PostTrak exits for a Marvel Cinematic Universe title. The Taika Waititi-directed sequel grossed 42.1M yesterday which is 4 above Friday’s true take of 40.5M (That’s 69.5M less 29M Thursday previews). This will get Thor: Love and Thunder to a 143M opening, per Disney. Worldwide is 302M, just like Nancy and I told you.
That number is the 12th-best opening for a Marvel Cinematic Universe title, after Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2‘s 146.5M. As we mentioned previously, the wonderful thing for motion picture studios as they put tentpoles out in the rebounding pandemic marketplace is that critical scores and exits aren’t watering down grosses like they did during pre-pandemic days.
Thor, like Jurassic World dinosaurs, is a big enough franchise to keep moviegoers coming,...

Kevin Love's courage does not go unnoticed. During Sunday night's 2020 Espys, Matthew McConaughey had the honors of presenting the Arthur Ashe Courage Award to the NBA player. "Of course courage is the kind of trait that comes with different looks. You often see it on city streets, emergency rooms, in hospitals, but you can also see it quite simply when someone looks themselves in the mirror, accepts that everything is not perfect, and finds the strength to say that out loud to the world," Matthew explained. "That's what Kevin Love began doing a few years ago. He is just a guy dealing with the kind of problems...

The 2020 Espys aired on Sunday and it may have looked like a different ceremony this year, but it still delivered awards show flair, celebrating the best in sports. While handing out trophies virtually to some of the most prominent figures in sports, it served inspiration and hope.
Hosted by Wnba’s Sue Bird, Ol Reign’s Megan Rapinoe and Seattle Seahawks Qb Russell Wilson, the ceremony was virtual and kicked off with a video tribute honoring the Black men and women in sports. Wilson then addressed the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and others which launched into Black Lives Matter movement of racial injustice that has been front and center in the past couple of weeks, but has been a battle for too long. He then addressed the need for his white colleagues to stand shoulder to shoulder with them and use their voice. “We need you to lead too,...

The Big Four broadcasters will televise a live commencement ceremony May 16 for the nation’s high school graduates, who, due to the coronavirus pandemic, are stuck at home and unable to celebrate with their classmates what should be a landmark moment. “Graduate Together” will feature a commencement address by former President Obama, speeches and appearances by activist Malala Yousafzai, the Jonas Brothers, actor Yara Shahidi and more — and is being produced by the Entertainment Industry Foundation along with the Xq Institute and the LeBron James Family Foundation.
Nicole Sexton, who joined Eif as president and CEO in 2017, spoke with Variety about the ceremony and how the organization is working with the industry to respond to the pandemic.

One of the last people to find out about the coronavirus was actor Jared Leto. The Oscar winner was away on a 12 day meditation in the desert without any technology or outside communication, which is the most Jared Leto thing ever, by the way.
Of course, once he came back to civilization, Leto was met with countless texts from friends and family about the pandemic. And now that he’s caught up, the actor is starting his own quarantine cinema club. With health experts recommending people stay in their homes and practice social distancing, there’s no better time to catch up on some movies, right?
He tweeted last week that the “Jared Leto Cinema Club” would start on Sunday with the John Hughes classic Ferris Buller’s Day Off being the inaugural film. Leto then tweeted several screenshots of the movie as well as various popcorn-eating selfies. He’s...

NBC News offered a terse statement on Monday after the network’s longtime anchor Tom Brokaw suggested on-air that Hispanic Americans needed to do a better job “assimilating” into American culture.
“Tom’s comments were inaccurate and inappropriate and we’re glad he apologized,” the network said, offering nothing further on the matter. Brokaw sparked controversy on Sunday after addressing the typically fraught issues of race and immigration in the United States, and suggesting that Hispanics needed to “work harder” at becoming Americans.
“Hispanics should work harder at assimilation,” he said on “Meet The Press.” “They ought not to be just codified in their communities but make sure that all their kids are learning to speak English and that they feel comfortable in the communities. And that’s going to take outreach on both sides, frankly.”
