Fresh controversy is brewing in the French film industry just weeks after a bombshell documentary detailing sexual assault accusations against Gérard Depardieu divided its ranks.

In what promises to be another divisive affair, actress Judith Godrèche has publicly condemned the relationship she openly had with director Benoît Jacquot in the late 1980s, which she says began when she was only 14 years old and he was 40.

Godrèche said this week that she was “under his influence” and that the relationship was wrong.

Jacquot – whose films as director include 2015 drama Diary Of A Chambermaid, Farewell, My Queen and Casanova, Last Love – has always held that Godrèche was 15, the minimum age of consent in France.

Godrèche, who is now 51, lived with Jacquot for six years and appeared in his films The Beggars and The Disenchanted, before leaving him in her early 20s.

Acorn TV went public with the official trailer for Cannes Confidential, a star-studded new drama series premiering on the streaming service this summer.

Shot on location in Cannes and starring French TV-drama actor Lucie Lucas, Jamie Bamber, and singer/actor Tamara Marthe (Profilage), the six-part series will premiere with the first two episodes on Monday, June 26 on Acorn TV, with two new episodes premiering weekly every Monday through July 10.

Created by Chris Murray, Cannes Confidential is "a high-concept detective series centered on the bicker-banter relationship between no-nonsense detective Camille Delmasse (Lucas) and charming international conman Harry King (Bamber)," the streaming service shared today.

Cameras are rolling in Cannes on “Cannes Confidential,” a high-end crime series set in the Cote d’Azur that will mark the first English-language procedural drama to be produced and set on the French riviera since the 1970s.

Skyverse Studios, AMC Networks’ streamer Acorn TV, French broadcaster TF1 and Nordic and streaming service Viaplay have announced the start of production on the six-part show that has been granted unprecedented access to film in the city of Cannes through an exclusive partnership and, given the timing of the start of shooting, will possibly include the upcoming Cannes film fest atmosphere.

Camille Delamarre will direct all six episodes.

The show, which will blend crime and romantic elements, is created by Chris Murray (“Midsomer Murders”). The main cast comprises French TV actor Lucie Lucas, Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica”), and singer/actor Tamara Marthe (“Profilage”) with additional cast to be announced.

The film stars the late Anton Yelchin in one of his final roles (along with the films Rememory and Thoroughbreds) as Jake, who meets the lovely Mati, played by Lucie Lucas. The cast also includes Paulo Calatré and Françoise Lebrun. This already premiered at the San Sebastian Film Festival last year, and has played at numerous film festivals through 2016 and 2017, with a release in the Us this November. It’s been just over a year since Anton Yelchin‘s tragic passing, and it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. An actor with gifts and talent he still had yet to share, we can take some comfort that there’s still one more film to treasure from Yelchin in “Porto.”

A new trailer has been released for the film Proto, which is one of the final films that Anton Yelchin starred in before he passed away. Yelchin such an incredibly talented young actor who has starred in so many great movies like Hearts in Atlantis, Like Crazy, Alpha Dog, Star Trek, Green Room and more.

I think it's great that there is at least one more new movie coming out where we will get to see Yelchin perform.

In Porto, Yelchin plays an American loner named Jake who makes a connection with a French student, Mati (Lucie Lucas), in the Portuguese city of the film’s title. The official description offers us some additional details, saying:

The New York-based distributor has taken North American rights from ICM Partners and UTA to Janicza Bravo’s feature directorial debut Lemon ahead of its SXSW screening.

The film premiered in Park City in January and opened Rotterdam. Magnolia plans a release later this year.

Lemon stars Brett Gelman, Judy Greer, Michael Cera and Nia Long and centres on a 40-years-old man whose life is unravelling.

Bravo co-wrote the screenplay with Gelman. David Bernon, Paul Bernon and Sam Slater of Burn Later Productions produced with Han West and Houston King.

David Hinojosa and Christine Vachon of Killer Films served as executive producers along with Bravo and Gelman.

Kino Lorber has acquired North American rights to Porto, the Gabe Klinger-directed film starring Anton Yelchin and Lucie Lucas. Just two days before its North American premiere at SXSW, Kino Lorber has picked up Gabe Klinger’s romantic drama, “Porto,” featuring the late Anton Yelchin in one of his final roles. The film also stars Lucie Lucas and was penned by Klinger and Larry Gross, it was also executive produced by Jim Jarmusch. The film was shot on Super 8mm, 16mm and 35mm in the eponymous Portuguese city. The film will have its North American debut at SXSW on Sunday night, with other screeners throughout the week.

This year’s SXSW Film Festival is currently raging in Austin, Texas, complete with a packed slate that should keep festival attendees pretty happy in between bouts of chowing down breakfast tacos and basking in the good ol’ Texas sunshine. Warsaw-based sales company New Europe Film Sales has announced deals on Porto [pictured], executive-produced by Jim Jarmusch and starring the late Anton Yelchin, and Locarno Best Actor award-winner The Last Family. The films sold to Benelux (Cineart) and Hungary (Mozinet), respectively.

Directed by Gabe Klinger (Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater), Porto stars Yelchin and Lucie Lucas as two outsiders in the titular Portuguese city, experiencing a brief but passionate connection.

The film previously sold to German-speaking Europe (Mfa+) and Brazil (Fenix Filmes).

It played in the San Sebastian Film Festival’s New Directors competition and also screens in the BFI London Film Festival’s First Feature Competition.

San Sebastian Film Festival (Sept 16-24) has unveiled the 14 filmmakers set to compete for the Kutxabank-New Directors award, which comes with a prize of €50,000.

The strand, made up of first or second films from international filmmakers, includes Gabe Klinger’s Porto, which features one of the final performances of Anton Yelchin, who died last month.

The film, which stars Yelchin and Lucie Lucas as a young man and woman who have a romantic encounter, also features the voice of late director Chantal Akerman and is executive produced by Jim Jarmusch.

Porto marks Klinger’s narrative feature debut, having previously directed the Venice-award-winning documentary Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater.

Other titles in the strand hail from across Europe, South America and Asia.

This calendar year has been filled to the brim with unthinkables. The latest terribly sad happening: The talented Russian-American actor Anton Yelchin died yesterday in a freak accident at only 27 years of age. He was crushed by his own car on its steep driveway incline.

Yelchin was best known to general audiences as Chekov in the modern Star Trek franchise but to us he'll always be Byrd Huffstodt (the sensitive brainy teen in the underappreciated cable drama Huff) or awestruck poseur Ian (from the hipster vampire greatness that was Only Lovers Left Alive), and especially Jacob from the college romance drama Like Crazy (2011). Though Like Crazy was mostly heralded at the time for Felicity Jones's work as his British girlfriend, it was Yelchin that gave the movie its lovestruck foolish soul... but nuanced emotionally astute work by male actors, especially young ones, in romantic dramas are rarely given their just critical props.

Currently titled after Portuguese’s second largest city and favorite gross domestic product, this fictional feature debut comes from a name who has appeared in such publications as Sight & Sound, Film Comment, and Cinema Scope. Gabe Klinger saw his non-fiction feature debut played out on the Lido (Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater) and earlier this year he packed Lucie Lucas and Anton Yelchin (the narrator is the dearly departed Chantal Akerman) for a Portugal/Paris shoot on the failed love theme. Porto is another Champs-Elysées Film Festival (2015) Us in Progress selected project to be featured on our predictions list, this was filmed in multiple film formats and carries a distinct Euro feel and appeal.

Jim Jarmusch has come on board as an executive producer of Gabe Klinger’s Porto Mon Amour (working title), which has just wrapped its shoot in Portugal before heading to Paris to finish shooting in March.

Jarmusch, the Us director of Only Lovers Left Alive and Ghost Dog, had already been involved with the project’s development.​

The drama, set mostly in Portugal, stars Anton Yelchin and Lucie Lucas as a young man and woman who have a romantic encounter.
