Here's the new trailer for Sweatshop , hitting DVD September 13 from Screen Media Films. In the film, Charlie (Ashley Kay) and her friends break into an abandoned warehouse to set up the biggest rave they've ever thrown. Little do they know, an enormous, hulking beast (playing by newcomer Jeremy Sumrall) lurks in the shadows - filled with rage and brandishing a pulverizing foundry hammer. It isn't long before the kids are in a fight for their lives against this behemoth and his ghoulish minions, who will stop at nothing to snuff them out, one-by-one.

Sweatshop
Stars: Ashley Kay, Peyton Wetzel, Brent Himes, Melanie Donihoo | Written by Stacy Davidson, Ted Geoghegan | Directed by Stacy Davidson
Now before I start this review I have to be honest, my review disc of Sweatshop completely stopped working after just under an hour so I have no idea how the film ends and no doubt I’ve missed out on some gory action, but on the plus side, never have I ever been so glad a DVD stopped working!
What I did see was some of the most inept amateur-hour acting I’ve seen in quite some time in a movie that sees a bunch of disposable teens setting up an underground “techno-goth” party in an abandoned warehouse (cliches ahoy!). As the teens attentions drift away from the party-planning they pair off in search of more intimate pursuits (told you it was cliched), but amidst their cries of passion...

Grimmupnorth 2010 is coming to Manchester for a second time this Halloween! Readers may remember last year’s coverage from the first Grimmfest last October ‘09. Well, we’re going back for more this year too. Festival director Simeon Halligan and his crew have spent all year finding some amazing new titles to screen at Manchester’s biggest horror film festival, including Evil: In The Time Of Heroes, which I missed at Eiff so am well up for seeing. There’s also the inventively named Canadian shocker, Dead Hooker In A Trunk, the Japanese genre mash-up Alien Vs Ninja, Thai thriller Slice, Zombie mock-u-mentary Reel Zombies and a horror doc featuring all kinds of industry insiders, The Splat Pack. There’s also a ton of activities and seminars for festival goers to participate in too. Personally I’m looking forward to the special screening for my favourite Argento film, Deep Red.

Mayhem takes to the screen this October 13, 14, & 15 at the Alamo Draft House (Westoaks) with a collection of six horrific feature films made in Houston by local directors. “Slashers, smashers, zombies, maniac medieval knights and more! Kicking off the festival will be shorts from the SplatterFest “Weekend of Mayhem” short film competition, in which contestants have one weekend to write, shoot, and edit a horror short. SplatterFest competition dates are September 24-26th.
The line up:
Sweatshop – Charlie (Ashley Kay) is hoping tonight's rave will be the biggest and baddest she's ever thrown, but after breaking into an abandoned factory that houses a bloodthirsty beast, she and her friends will be lucky to last until the party starts. Directed by Stacy Davidson.
