- Producer
Alex Castro, a Cuban born actor/entertainer rose from humble beginnings
to television and film-class fame. His initial taste of the
entertainment world began in Havana working as part of the famous
Tropicana nightclub troupe. In 1994, a fateful crossing from his
homeland of Cuba to Miami, Florida went tragically wrong when the boat
carrying Castro and four others sank during a storm. With very little
supplies remaining, including water and food, Alex and the others had
only a life preserver to hang on to. In the end only Alex and one other
survived the ordeal after being rescued by the United States Marines.
After his rescue, he credits that experience making him who he has
become. After his honorable discharge from the Marines serving four
years, he found work at the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas as part of
the Zumanity show.
Five years later, his next big break would arrive when an NBC producer spotted him at a charity event performing a circus stunt. After lifting his 190-lb partner during the stunt, Alex was invited by the producer to audition for the 2008 revival of the popular game show American Gladiators. On American Gladiators, Alex portrayed a steely-spirited character named Militia. During the course of the series' revival in 2008, Alex appeared for 16 episodes. After Gladiators, Alex went on to portray Hannibal for a television documentary titled Battles BC as well as make other television appearances including an episode for Burn Notice and Hit the Big Time. Alex resides in Los Angeles and has a dream of one day sharing with audiences his crossing from Cuba as he said he wants to honor all those who died at sea.
