Documentary Filmmaker, Editor and Researcher, Mira Filmes' associate.
Born in Natal in 1983 and raised in Bahia, André Bomfim came to São Paulo in 2001 to study Audiovisual Production. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of São Paulo and has worked as an assistant in the fields of film direction, direct sound and editing over the last few years.
His experiences with the Cinemateca Brasileira's (Brazilian National Film Archive) movie collection and his taste for research have boosted one of his passions: archived images and projects that speak to memory and history.
Since 2012, he has worked mainly as a Documentary Filmmaker. In 2013 he directed the corporate documentary short "Palavras, Imagens e Sons: o Arquivo Ruth Cardoso". In 2014 he directed the third season of the TV show "O Papel da Vida" ("The Role of a Lifetime"), which was displayed at Canal Brasil, a Brazilian television channel.
At the same year, he launched at ESPN (Brazil) the short documentary "The Amazing Stories of a Ghost Ship", winner of the prizes of Best Short film, Best Editing and Best Use of Found Footage at RECINE Film Festival. It also had an Honorable mention at Semana Paulista do Curta-metragem. It was presented in It's All True - International Documentary Film Festival and BCN Sports Film Festival.
In 2015 he directed the documentary "Following the Line: the History of Ricardo Prado", which was premiered at ESPN Brazil in January 2016. The film had its international premiere at Hot Docs - International Canadian Documentary Festival. It was presented at FICVIÑA - Festival Internacional de Cine de Viña del Mar.
In 2016 he collaborated in the development of the transmedia project "Faces of Harassment", which was premiered (both the doc feature and the website) at the 47th Brasilia Film Festival. He is developing his first documentary feature, and a TV series entitled "Families".
