"If you care about him, you'll let him go, instead of blaming me for taking him." Quiver Distribution has unveiled the official trailer for an indie dramedy called Small Town Wisconsin, made by a Milwaukee local filmmaker named Niels Mueller. The film premiered back in 2020 at a few small film fests, and will be out on VOD to watch in June this summer. A father tries hard to be a good dad but alcoholism is his biggest deterrent. After losing a custody battle, perpetual teenager Wayne Stobierski steals his son away for one last father-son weekend to the city of their dreams - Milwaukee, Wisconsin (let's go!). What's supposed to be a light-hearted adventure, transforms into a journey of profound redemption. David Sullivan stars, joined by Bill Heck, Kristen Johnston, Tanya Fischer, Cooper J. Friedman, and Braden Andersen. This reminds me a lot of C'mon C'mon, similar vibes, but with...

Odds are that finding someone from Small Town Mid-West USA means finding someone with an unpleasant past. Economic strife leads to long hours. Long hours to drinking. Drinking to domestic abuse. And the cycle continues ad infinitum unless you’re lucky enough to extricate yourself from the black hole of familial history proving too heavy to bear. It’s why Alicia (Kristen Johnston) got out around the time her abusive, alcoholic father passed away. It’s why Deidra (Tanya Fischer) and her new husband Stu (David Sapiro) are looking to escape themselves. And it’s why Wayne (David Sullivan) is quite literally drowning after inevitably inheriting his and Alicia’s father’s disease. No amount of love for his son with Deidra (Cooper J. Friedman’s Tyler) can excuse the resulting anger, neglect, or self-destruction.

If you think America is strange, violent and complex now, and you wish for a simpler, kinder time way back when, then BBC America's "Copper" may mess with your nostalgic yearnings. Pete Kaczmarek and Nick Morelli consistently get themselves and their clients out of some pretty big jams. Unfortunately, there's one that they can't escape. Their TV series, The Defenders, has been cancelled by CBS after one season.
The Defenders follows a pair of Las Vegas lawyers who will do just about anything for their Sin City clients. They often take on cases no one else will touch and try to keep their sanity while doing it. The TV show stars Jerry O'Connell, Jim Belushi, Jurnee Smollett, Tanya Fischer, and Gillian Vigman.
The TV series got off to a decent start with a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 12.17 million viewers. In weeks two and three, those numbers started to tumble however with the demo falling 14% and then another 12% in weeks two and three. Airing on Wednesday nights, the ratings kept...

Tonight marks the final episode of The Defenders for the season. How likely is the CBS freshman series to be back next fall with season two?
The Defenders follows a pair of lawyers operating out of Las Vegas. They'll do just about anything for their Sin City clients, often taking on cases no one else will touch, and try to keep their sanity while doing it. The TV show stars veterans Jerry O'Connell and Jim Belushi as well as Jurnee Smollett, Tanya Fischer, and Gillian Vigman.
For its premiere, the series dominated its timeslot with a 2.9 in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 12.2 million total viewers. That put the new show in first place in both categories and essentially doubled the performance of ABC's now-cancelled, The Whole Truth.

What I love about a new TV season is getting to sample new shows. It's a short time in which to choose one to watch and stick with it.
The name of this show is The Defenders. It's about two flashy Vegas defense attorneys who go to bat for their clients. That's the show's tag line. The Defenders is also these lawyers' slogan on the giant billboard ad we see in the very first episode. Compared to other courtroom dramas, this one is refreshing and classy.
Jim Belushi is Nick Morelli, a respected lawyer from Chicago recently separated from his wife. Having moved out of the family home, he misses that part of his life and wishes things would go back to normal. We see him struggling with the fact that he has to move on.
Jerry O'Connell is his young partner Pete Kaczmarek. Pete is brilliant but hotheaded. His...

Back in the 1960's, CBS had a successful courtroom series starring E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed. Now, CBS has premiered a very different legal TV show with the same name, The Defenders. The first one ran for four seasons. Will the new version outlast it or be quickly cancelled?

Chicago – Calling CBS’ “The Defenders” a drama might be a bit of a stretch. But it’s not funny enough to be a comedy either. Instead it falls into the limp valley in between choosing an occasional bit of manipulation to try and qualify as drama but also relying heavily on the comic timing of its stars, Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell, but failing as both.
Television Rating: 1.0/5.0
CBS generally skews to an older demographic and so it’s not surprising to see more generic programming on the network and I don’t mean that as a criticism in any way. CBS has found quite a bit of success with its formula and every network works that way. It’s just a fact that a program like “Human Target” fits better on Fox and “Hellcats” on The CW. But CBS has found undeniable success within its formula with breakout...

"The Defenders" may be considered a legal drama, but the TCA press tour panel on Wednesday (July 28) has the TV critics laughing.
The new CBS procedural, which will premiere Wednesday, Sept. 22, centers on two dedicated Las Vegas defense attorneys.
Nick Morelli (Jim Belushi) needs to see if he can fix his marriage, while Pete Kaczmarek (Jerry O'Connell) turns to the Vegas strip for his amorous pursuits. Lisa Tyler (Jurnee Smollett) put herself through law school as an exotic dancer, but now wants to get serious as a new young attorney. Sophie (Tanya Fischer) rounds out the workplace as their sassy assistant.
In researching the show, Belushi had watched the documentary that a few of the show's producers had made about public defenders in Las Vegas.
"They're put in the position to defend people they don't like," he says. "They have strong character and a strong sense of duty. But these guys are such characters.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced yesterday. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
The Eye continued its reign as the #1-rated network this past season. Its procedurals (NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, Mentalist) dominate the marketplace, about half its sitcoms (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) are strong performers, and though it only launched four shows last Fall it turned two of them (Good Wife, NCIS: La) into major hits.
The network isn't resting on its laurels though as this year it launches three dramas and two comedies in the Fall, and the high-profile "Criminal Minds" spin-off mid-season. As a result some long running dramas like "Cold Case," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numb3rs" along with its more recent and lesser performing sitcoms have all been given the axe.

Chicago – CBS announced their fall schedule today. While fans of canceled “Accidentally on Purpose,” “Cold Case,” “Gary Unmarried,” “Numb3rs,” “The Ghost Whisperer,” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” may disagree, the big TV news of the week is that several of the top network’s biggest shows are moving. “Survivor” jumps to Wednesday nights, “The Big Bang Theory” moves to Thursdays, “CSI: NY” slides to Fridays, and “CSI: Miami” now goes down on Sundays.
As far as on-the-bubble renewals are concerned, CBS saved “Rules of Engagement” and “Medium”. The rest of their renewals were pretty obvious choices as the network continues to air many of the biggest hits on TV including the #1 drama (“NCIS”), #1 comedy (“Two and a Half Men”), #1 new series (“Undercover Boss”), #1 news magazine (“60 Minutes”), #1 new drama (“NCIS: Los Angeles”), and #1 scripted series for the 18-49 and 25-54 demos (“The Big Bang Theory”).

Directed by Brett Simon, the film takes place at a Catholic high school, where a popular girl teams up with a sophomore newspaper reporter to investigate a case of stolen Sat exams. Once the duo targets their suspects, a larger conspiracy is unearthed. It was written by Tim Calpin and Kevin Jakubowski. To no great surprise, fans of ABC's Life on Mars are quite upset that the network has decided to kill the series after only 17 episodes. Granted, the early ratings weren't that great but the network didn't help matters either. Will viewers be given closure or will they and Sam Tyler be left stranded forever in the 1970s?
Life on Mars, a remake of the popular UK series, revolves around a modern-day detective (Jason O'Mara) who is somehow transported back to 1973. He manages to acclimate himself but is stymied as to the how and why of his situation. The series also features Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Harvey Keitel, Jonathan Murphy, Dominick Mancino, John Cenatiempo, Chris Miskiewicz, Tom Stratford, Matthew Cowles, and Tanya Fischer.
The drama debuted on October 9, 2008 to a solid 11.33 million viewers and a 3.8/10 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. Unfortunately, those numbers didn't last and Mars fell significantly in its second week,...

To no great surprise, ABC has opted not to order a second season of their Wednesday night drama, Life on Mars. The show was one of the most anticipated of the season. So, what happened? Will viewers be left hanging or will the show's mysteries be resolved?
A remake of a UK show of the same name, Life on Mars follows Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) , a modern-day NYPD detective who's investigating the abduction of his girlfriend (Lisa Bonet) by a serial killer. After being hit by a speeding car, Tyler wakes up in 1973. While trying to figure out what's happened to him, he ends up becoming part of his precinct in the past. Is he in a coma, insane, or a true time traveler?
