- Daughter Eva van de Klundert (born April 17, 1998) with first wife Judith van Laer. Daughters Roos (born January 17, 2004) and Lola (born March 2008) with second wife Nathalie.
- He is a strong advocate of (epidural) anesthesia during childbirth, which is common practice in most Western countries, except for his native the Netherlands. He is also a firm supporter of euthanasia, which, oddly enough, is legal in the Netherlands but not in most other Western countries.
- Lost his first wife, Judith van Laer, to breast cancer. He detailed the process of her disease, his extra-marital escapades and, finally, her death by euthanasia, in his novel "Komt een vrouw bij de dokter" - which was adapted into the movie Komt een vrouw bij de dokter (2009).
