“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball peeled back the curtain on Wētā FX‘s Oscar-worthy VFX in “Inside the Lens: The Raw Cut,” a full-length, split-screen comparison between the final cut of the film and a version with unfinished VFX. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a sci-fi action film directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. The 2024 film serves as a standalone sequel to the 2017 film War for the Planet of the Apes and it is the fourth entry into the Planet of the Apes reboot film series and the tenth film in the overall film franchise.

20th Century Studios gave the Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball’s addition to the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (read our review Here), a digital release earlier this month, and the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release is scheduled for August 27th – but before we get there, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will begin streaming on the Hulu service as of August 2nd! All nine prior films in the series are also streaming on Hulu, so fans will have the chance to binge-watch the entire Planet of the Apes franchise there!

The story of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set many years after the conclusion of War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence.

A while back, we heard that the physical media release of the Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball’s addition to the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (read our review Here), would feature a version of the film that would allow viewers to see the motion-capture performances of the actors, before the CGI magicians turned them into their ape characters. Now 20th Century Studios has announced a date for the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: August 27th. And well before we reach that date, the movie will be receiving a digital release on July 9th.

50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.

Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.

Disney’s 20th Century Studios announced Friday that the film will now open May 10 instead of May 24. The shift gives it distance from the crowded Memorial Day marquee, which includes George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (Warner Bros.) and The Garfield Movie (Sony).

The move was a no-brainer since there is no direct competition on that date in terms of a new tentpole. Plus, it gives Planet of the Apes Imax screens for the first two weeks of its a release, as well as other large-format screens (it’s the first of the multitude of the Apes films to play in Imax.)

Jessica Jones‘ actor Eka Darville‘s son, Mana Darville, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of glioneuronal brain cancer early last year. Mana, 10, was told he’d only have two weeks to live.

The actor decided to put his career on hold and even moved to the U.S. for his young son.

The family started a GoFundMe page that raised thousands of dollars to help pay for his treatments, including a high-risk marathon surgery. Through the page, followers were getting updates on Mana’s health.

Although the family was told Mana wouldn’t make it longer than eight weeks, Mana went on to live for eight more months.

“Mana went from not being able to walk to doing ninja rolls off the side of the bed, rock climbing, swimming & not just getting out of the wheelchair but running unassisted!” Eka shared in one of their updates.

Jessica Jones actor Eka Darville lost his 10-year-old son to a battle with brain cancer.

Darville’s child, Mana, was diagnosed with glioneuronal brain cancer earlier this year after collapsing on the beach and suffering multiple seizures. He was given just weeks to live and underwent several treatments, but ultimately passed away last week.

Eka’s mother, Malaika, announced the news on social media, admitting that it is a relief that Mana is now “free.”

“I still wanted to come together in this prayer because he’s still always gonna be with us and he’s still with us,” she said in a video. “You can imagine the amount of sadness and grief of Eka, Lila, Lila’s parents, his grandparents, myself and his little brothers.”

“There’s a lot of stillness in the house after such a long struggle for 463 days since the whole ordeal began,” she continued. “And now he’s free.

Set for theatrical release on May 24, 2024, Wes Ball’s film takes place many years after the end of Matt Reeves’ 2017 feature, War for the Planet of the Apes, which is the most recent movie in the enduring franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, William H. Macy and Dichen Lachman.

After the 2017 film showed Caesar leading his kind to an oasis, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes picks up with numerous ape societies continuing to thrive, while humans have been reduced to a nearly feral existence. As one ape ruler enslaves others amid his quest for human technology, a different ape seeks freedom and hopes to work with a young human woman to achieve that goal.

Filming on Daredevil revival Daredevil: Born Again has been on hold for the time being due to the Hollywood strikes, and there’s no word about a Jessica Jones reboot happening anytime soon, but the shows’ three stars, Vincent D’Onofrio, Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter, reunited at GalaxyCon Austin over the weekend and posed for a very fun photo. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Dichen Lachman – whose previous credits include Jurassic World: Dominion, Agents of S.H.I.E.Ld., and Severance – has a role in the film. Of course, details on the character she’s playing were not revealed.

Deadline has reported that William H. Macy has joined the cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the next chapter in the Apes saga from 20th Century. It’s not clear who Macy will play in the movie, but he will be a welcome addition to the franchise whether he portrays an ape or a human.

Now Deadline has revealed the names of five more cast members. They are Travis Jeffery (Unbroken), Sara Wiseman (One Of Us Is Lying), Neil Sandilands (Sweet Tooth), Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi (The Clearing), and Lydia Peckham (Cowboy Bebop). Details on the characters Jeffery, Wiseman, Sandilands, Welda’abzgi, and Peckham will be playing have not been revealed.

20th Century Studios’ fantasy action film “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” has begun production in Sydney, New South Wales, at the iconic Fox Studios Australia, which have been newly renamed Disney Studios Australia.

The franchise film is pitched as a new chapter in the “Planet of the Apes” saga, picking up many years after the conclusion of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes.”

Under the direction of Wes Ball (“The Maze Runner” trilogy) it will star Owen Teague (“It”), Freya Allan (“The Witcher”), Peter Macon (“The Orville”), Eka Darville (“Jessica Jones”) and Kevin Durand (“The Strain”).

The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), and Patrick Aison (“Prey”).

Joe Hartwick Jr. (“The Maze Runner” trilogy), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Jason Reed (“Mulan”) are the film’s producers. Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are the executive producers.

The next chapter of the Planet of the Apes franchise is swinging into high gear by casting a pair of actors for Wes Ball’s upcoming epic. Joining the cast of The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes are Aka Darville and Kevin Durand. Freya Allan (The Witcher), Owen Teague (It Chapter Two), and Peter Macon (The Orville) also star in the upcoming feature written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison.

We don’t know who Durand will play, but smoke on the street suggests he’ll be an Ape and likely the film’s new villain.

Kevin Durand is the latest actor joining the growing cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century’s continuation of the long-running property.

Durand joins a cast that includes Owen Teague, Freya Allen, Peter Macon and Eka Darville. The film picks up many years after the conclusion of the previous trilogy, which starred Andy Serkis as ape leader Caesar and ended with 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes. That film followed Caesar as he led his people to the promised land after much turmoil.

Maze Runner filmmaker Wes Ball is directing the feature for a planned 2024 release date.

The Planet of the Apes began life as a 1963 novel by Pierre Boulle before being adapted for the big screen with the 1968 feature starring Charlton Heston. It told of a future in which apes rule Earth and humans are subjugated.
