Deborah Pearl

Deborah Pearl began her career as a professional singer doing jingles and record back up for artists from Linda Ronstadt to Neil Young, and an album, "Pearl," on London Records with her sister, Leslie (who wrote the Folger's "Best Part of Waking Up" jingle). Pearl's passion for writing led her to become a screenwriter, playwright and writer/producer for television having worked on numerous sitcoms, among them the critically acclaimed "Designing Women". She wrote and co-produced the short film, "Waiting for Yvette", starring Wendie Malick which came in third in Logo Networks Click Fest, with audience awards at film festivals around the country. Her second short, "In Confidence" went to the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. She has scripts in development with Thor Freudenthal, (director of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "Hotel For Dogs"), their latest an adaption of the Israeli graphic novel "Exit Wounds" with producers Killer Content. Her collection, "Sex: A Ganglion of Short Plays," was produced at the MET Theater in L.A., was a finalist at HBO's Comedy Fest, and chosen for the Samuel French One Act Festival in New York. Pearl's musical, "At the Bistro Garden", written with composer David Kole, was produced in Detroit last fall directed by Jules Aaron. Her critically acclaimed one-woman show, "Chick Singers", developed at the HBO Workspace, ran at The Cinegrill and Odyssey Theater in L.A.. Pearl's recent music project was as singer/lyricist, penning lyrics to the instrumental melodies of multi-Grammy winning jazz legend Benny Carter on the CD "Souvenir of You - New Lyrics to Benny Carter Classics" - available on cdbaby, iTunes and Amazon. She's breaking new ground on her latest project as writer/producer and first time director of "Getting Ed Laid," a short film starring Ed Asner and Jean Smart. Pearl is an associate artist at the Interact Theater Company, a member of both the Actor's Studio Playwrights/Directors Unit and the Ensemble Studio Theater. She co-founded and directs "The National in Choir," a two-hundred voice pool of volunteer singers that visit hospitals and nursing homes in Los Angeles during the Holiday season. Pearl graduated cum laude from Barnard College, Columbia University.
