Rasmi Tsopela is a distinguished Greek stage and screen actress who was born in the Sudan and raised in Athens
She holds degrees from the School of Philosophy in Archaeology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and from the Drama school of Karolos Koun Arts Theater.
She has played leading roles in ancient Greek drama in the theaters of Epidaurus, Herodus Atticus, in the Dodecanese islands, in Elefsis, Dodone, in Cyprus and in many prestigious European Festivals in London, Paris, Brussels, Stockholm, Uppsala, Vienna, Belgrade, and Dortmund. She collaborated with the most prestigious theaters such as the National Theater, The Arts Theater, Evangelatos' Amphitheater, Poria Theater etc.
A highlight of her career is her presentation in English of recitals with monologues from ancient Greek drama portraying Antigone, Electra, Clytemnestra, Iphigenia, Medea and Andromache in prestigious venues in the USA, such as the Dallas Theater Center, Herbst Theater in San Francisco and in famous universities such as Princeton, Temple, Columbia, Barnard College, Brown, USC, Berkeley and Caltech. She was also invited to present her recital in Alexandria and Cairo, during the Kavafeia Festival.
Her stage roles have spanned a vast repertoire from Goldoni, Brecht, and Lorca, to Dario Fo, Robert Hewett and many contemporary Greek playwrights.
As a screen actress she has appeared in films of Greek directors and in television series. Recently, she appeared in the American film "My Big Greek Fat Wedding No 3".
Her latest achievement is her participation with the role of Eleftheria in the Grand Zarifi Apartment, a performance produced by istos at the Istanbul Theater Festival in November 2023. Sold out performances and warm reception of the public call her back in Istanbul every month since then. A much sought after drama and speech coach, she has worked in the most well-known drama schools and in private American Colleges in Athens.
She is fluent in English, French and German, and reads ancient Greek and Latin.
