A new week is here, and so is November! When did that happen? But before we get to Thanksgiving, Netflix has a few movies and shows they are adding to their lineup this week, including a new season of a Netflix Original, a new documentary, and a comedy crime series.

First up is The Diplomat! Season 2 is hitting Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, and this season will start where last season left off. A bomb had just gone off, possibly injuring Kate's husband and staff, so we will likely get to see how everyone is recovering/who didn't survive. That will probably be most of the first episodes. Kate is also being looked at for the office of the Vice President, whether she likes it or not. And with Allison Janney as the current Vice President, things are sure to get sticky.

Beta Cinema, Constantin Film, Zeitsprung Pictures and UFA Fiction have unveiled the first look photo of “The Physician II,” the sequel to the hit historical epic.

The original film, released in 2013, sold to over 60 territories and became an international box-office hit. In Germany alone, the film earned $42 million at the box office, with 3.6 million admissions.

“The Physician” director Philipp Stölzl once again brings together a stellar ensemble of international stars and rising talents: Tom Payne reprises his role as the passionate physician Rob Cole and shares the screen with Emily Cox (“The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die”), Aidan Gillen, Áine Rose Daly, Owen Teale, and Liam Cunningham.

The shoot took place from August to October 2024 in Hungary, Cologne and Berlin. Constantin Film is releasing the film in German cinemas on Dec. 25, 2025, and Beta Cinema is handling international sales, presenting first materials at the upcoming American Film Market.

In Jena und Umgebung wird derzeit wieder ein Zdf-Samstagskrimi gedreht, in dem die rechtsmedizinische Ermittlung im Mittelpunkt steht. Am Start ein neues Duo: Emily Cox als Rechtsmedizinerin, Dozentin und forensische Entomologin Dr. Mala Murphy und Golo Euler als Jenaer Kriminalhauptkommissar Moritz Herbst. Das Drehbuch schrieb Khyana el Bitar, Regie führt Judith Kennel.

Confirming Germany’s importance as a growth market, Netfix on Wednesday announced 17 new and returning shows and movies produced by some of the country’s leading producers, including docuseries “Kaulitz & Kaulitz,” about the Tokio Hotel popstar siblings, and sci-fi drama “Cassandra,” about an overzealous electronic household helper.

Netflix presented 17 feature films, series, documentaries and reality shows at a special event in Berlin.

“The Last Kingdom” is ready for its last run.

With the debut of the feature-length film “Seven Kings Must Die” on Netflix on April 14, the epic series is wrapping up, with the fifth and final season having aired on Netflix in March 2022.

The film serves as a fitting send off to the series, which is based on the Bernard Cornwell novel series “The Saxon Stories.” Like the books, the show follows the fictional character Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon who was captured and raised by Danish invaders in England in the ninth century A.D. Uhtred is raised to live the life of a viking, but destiny puts him in the employ of the House of Wessex and King Alfred, who seeks to unite the disparate kingdoms into one country called England.

Trying to numb herself again with alcohol only drives her daughter Hanna further away and accelerates Michi’s paranoid state. When her demons also start to threaten her daughter, Michi must finally confront them to save her.

“The Last Kingdom” is coming to an end.

Although a two-hour movie followup is currently filming, Season 5 of the Netflix historical drama wraps up the story of its central character, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, played by Alexander Dreymon, in a very satisfying way — as the sins of Uhtred’s past collide head on with his present and the future of England.

Uhtred finds himself in an unusual place at the beginning of the season — unable to be with Aethelflaed (Millie Brady), the woman he loves and the Lady of Merica, he presides over a Mercian border town at her request. But strange things are in the air, as Brida (Emily Cox) is determined to have her vengeance once and for all and the enemies of the House of Wessex are gathering.

FX has released the first trailer for the fifth and final season of “Better Things,” its original comedy series created by, executive produced by and starring Pamela Adlon.

Adlon stars as Sam, a working actress raising three daughters in Los Angeles attempting to navigate her life and find fulfillment. Mikey Madison, Hannah Alligood and Olivia Edward portray Sam’s daughter, who are each struggling to come of age, while Celia Imrie portrays Sam’s mother, who deals with increasingly difficult mental and physical health issues. Adlon heavily based the series on her own experiences as an actor raising three daughters.

The trailer for the new season sees Sam working on a new movie, giving a presentation to an elementary school class and arguing with her daughters. The new season will feature Danny Trejo, Lena Waithe, Ron Cephas Jones, Casey Wilson, Angela Kinsey and Lennon Parham as guest stars.

Berlin-based sales agency Picture Tree Intl. has added to its European Film Market slate “Love Thing,” starring top German actor Elyas M’Barek, whose credits include “The Collini Case.” Also on the slate is “Soul of a Beast,” which debuts its trailer below.

Despite the virtual nature of the EFM, the company has taken additional office space at the Marriott Hotel in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz.

“Love Thing,” which also stars Lucie Heinze, Peri Baumeister and Alexandra Maria Lara, is directed and written by Anika Decker, whose last feature “High Society” sold widely. Decker scripted box office successes like “Rabbit Without Ears,” which grossed $85 million.

“Love Thing” is produced by German production-distribution powerhouse Constantin Film, which has set its release for July 7. The producers are Rüdiger Böss and Philipp Reuter; the co-producers are Anika Decker and Jan Decker; and the executive producer is Martin Moszkowicz. Picture Tree will present a first teaser trailer to select buyers.

Uhtred of Bebbanburg and his adventures are coming to an end with year five. The Netflix historical drama series, The Last Kingdom, is coming to a close so, there won't be a sixth season. The streaming service hasn't announced a release date for the final installments as yet.

It's the end of the line for another Netflix series.

Deadline is reporting that the streamer has announced the upcoming fifth season.

Alexander Dreymon, who plays Saxon warrior Uhtred of Bebbanburg, said in a statement, “Playing Uhtred for five seasons has been a wonderful journey.”

Added EP Nigel Marchant: “With such a loyal fanbase, we’re excited to give viewers a chance to follow Uhtred on the next stage of his epic quest, where not everyone survives.”

News of the conclusion means that Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories novel series will not be fully adapted since the fifth season is said to be based on the ninth and tenth books in the 13-pear series.

The good news for fans is that the final season is currently in production, so there should be some semblance of a conclusion when it's all said and done.

“The Last Kingdom” has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix. Time to celebrate, arselings!

The cast posted a video on social media making the announcement, which can be viewed below. The news comes just under three months after the release of Season 4 on April 26. Season 5 will consist of 10 episodes, as did Seasons 3 and 4.

The series is based on “The Saxon Stories” novels by Bernard Cornwell. It follows the adventures of Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a warrior born a Saxon but raised as a Dane, in ninth and tenth century England. Filming has commenced on the fourth season of The Last Kingdom for Netflix, the hit historical drama based on Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling novel series The Saxon Stories.

Alexander Dreymon reprises his role as Uhtred, joined by new cast Stefanie Martini who takes on the role of Eadith, Aethelred’s new love conquest, and Aethelred’s new right-hand man Eardwulf, played by Jamie Blackley.

After the death of Alfred, the alliances between the kingdoms are fractured. Following last weekend’s big roll out of The Favourite from Fox Searchlight, this weekend will likely see a pause for awards contenders making splashy Specialty box office numbers. Orion Pictures is giving a limited start to comedy-horror-musical Anna And the Apocalypse, starring Ella Hunt and Malcom Cumming. Timed to the holiday season, the title fits the company’s strategy of releasing films that target specific audiences. Screen Media, meanwhile, has two very different features heading out, though both will have one-time event screenings around the country (on different dates) in addition to specific targeted regular runs. The hugely popular series The Last Kingdom has recently been acquired by Netflix, and its legion of fans are eagerly awaiting the continuing story. The action packed series is based on Bernard Cromwell’s The Saxon Stories and has won fans with some incredible battles and compelling characters.

At the recent McM Comic Con in London we spoke to the cast about how Netflix will change the scope of the show, what its like working with the amazing stunts as well as what it was like returning for a third season and how their characters have developed through the process.
