- Cristina Khuly is Creative Director of Entertaining Ideas (formerly Rogues Harbor Studios), which she cofounded in 2005 with Douglas Eger. Ms. Khuly is overseeing Entertaining Ideas' development of projects that aim to entertain and educate, spanning feature and documentary film as well as episodic TV/Internet programming and start-up ventures.
In her capacity as Creative Director, Ms. Khuly was responsible for choosing the highly acclaimed documentary film War Dance (2007) for investment. War Dance went on to receive an Academy Award nomination, two Emmys as well as over 40 festival awards. Her directorial debut, Shoot Down (2008), won the 2007 Best Documentary prize at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival. The documentary tells the story of one of the most pivotal events in U.S.-Cuban relations, the 1996 shoot-down of two U.S. civilian aircraft by Cuban fighter jets. The film was released theatrically in January 2008 and is ranked among the top-grossing political documentaries.
Ms. Khuly was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, and received her BFA in Sculpture from the Florida International University in Miami in 1994. Since 1997, she has been working as an artist in such media as sculpture, painting, industrial design, graphic design and film. Her awards include an Award in Sculpture from the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle, PA, the New York Foundation for the Arts' Felissimo Design Award and the Miami Beach Art in Public Places "Electrowave Shuttle" Competition winner. She has exhibited her sculptures in many galleries and museums, including the Cooperstown Art Association in Cooperstown, NY; the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle, PA; the Carnegie Mellon University's Hewlett Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA, and the Florida State University's Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, FL. In 2002, Khuly completed a 12 ft. by 17 ft. public commission, "Flight," permanently installed in Downtown Miami, FL.
From 1989 through 1999, Ms. Khuly worked as a model and commercial actress. Represented by agencies in Manhattan, Paris and Japan, Ms. Khuly traveled extensively and worked for such magazines as Vogue, Mademoiselle, Marie Claire, Harper's Bazaar, New Woman, Brides, Cosmopolitan and Glamour, and was featured in fashion campaigns such as ESPRIT, Valentino, Lilly Pulitzer and Benetton. Ms. Khuly has worked on television commercials for, Meji ice-cream, Kirin beer, Honda's Vita and Clinique.
Ms. Khuly is a passionate environmentalist, and in partnership with Mr. Eger, preserved the 6,800-acre Lundy Estate in Upstate New York; she continues to develop land conservation projects.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Audra Gorgiev
