Earlier this year, we got word that 20th Century Studios and director Dan Trachtenberg were in the process of developing a new standalone Predator movie in addition to a Prey sequel, with Elle Fanning set to star. Now, the first plot details have been shared online via AvPGalaxy.net.
Filming is believed to be underway in New Zealand under the working title Backpack, and thanks to a leaked casting call, we have an intriguing logline and details on the two main characters.
"A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions."
It seems the leads will be twin sisters, meaning Fanning - assuming these are the characters she's been cast as - will play a dual role.

NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David North has addressed concerns that the show featuring Gibbs' father would be a plot hole. He said that the creators are aware of the canon of NCIS, which is that Gibbs and his father have not spoken since his wife Shannon's funeral. This quote may indicate that the show largely involves Jackson Gibbs in flashback sequences.
A potential NCIS: Origins plot hole involving Gibbs' father has been addressed. The upcoming show is a prequel to the iconic crime procedural following the early years of long-running major character Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, now played by Austin Stowell, though original star Mark Harmon is set to provide voiceover narration for the series. Young versions of other characters from the original cast will also appear in the NCIS: Origins show, including Kyle Schmid as Gibbs' mentor Special Agent Mike Franks (originally played by Muse Watson) and Robert Taylor...

The Predator franchise gets a stealth prequel in the shape of this smartly written sci-fi thriller that has the dreadlocked alien super-hunter under-estimating a worthy new opponent. In terms of sequels, Prey is comfortably the best Predator film since the 1987 original, though admittedly, that’s not a particularly high bar to clear.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (whose franchise-tweaking credentials were previously showcased in 10 Cloverfield Lane), Prey is set in 1719, on the Great Plains, where young Comanche tribeswoman Naru (Amber Midthunder) is desperate to become a warrior, fighting alongside her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers). Prey takes place in the 1700s and explores the story of Naru, a Comanche healer and tracker who yearns to become a warrior. Director Dan Trachtenberg wanted to create a film that could be as nonverbal and action-oriented as possible, while still being emotional. The movie aims to introduce the Predator lore to a new audience while tapping into an earlier era and showcasing a Native American protagonist.
Prey is the fifth installment in the Predator franchise, set hundreds of years before the original movie. Set in the Northern Great Plains in 1719, the movie follows Naru, an accomplished Comanche healer and tracker who yearns to become a warrior. Although overshadowed by her brother Taabe, a skilled hunter, Naru sees her chance for the big hunt, a rite of passage in her tribe. Naru will face a much more sinister and dangerous threat than anything she or the others have seen before.

Jhane Myers, the producer of the thriller film ‘Prey’, shared that the team conducted extensive research with regard to the way of life and traditions of the Native American tribe of Comanche. The film presents a vicious and terrifying showdown between various predators with a gripping narrative and representation of the Comanche tribe.
Talking about the work it took to learn about the tribe, Jhane said, “We did extensive amounts of historical research and studied their customs and period-appropriate dialogue and sign language.”
She added: “The Comanches hunt and fight for survival. Everything that they hunt, like when they hunt a Buffalo, every part of that Buffalo is used. Nothing is wasted, and they’re also thankful for the spirit of that Buffalo that’s able to nourish them, clothe them, and is used for everything that they need in life.”

Abubakr Ali, the titular star of the recently canceled Netflix series Grendel, is speaking out about the show’s cancellation and what it means for Muslim representation on the screen.
In Grendel, Ali became the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation. Earlier this week, Netflix revealed it would not be moving forward with the series. The decision was made after Grendel had done the bulk of its filming but the series was not finished, so there is currently a partial eight-episode season in the can. Producers have the option to shop the series.
In a post on Instagram, Ali noted that “Despite making up 24 percent of the world’s population, Muslim actors only make up 1 of speaking characters on TV.”
“I was really excited for what this role meant to my community,” he continued. “I never thought this business would allow...

Netflix’s decision to scrap its Grendel comic book adaptation after all eight episodes were shot is not sitting well with one of the show’s stars.
“Hundreds of talented, tireless, wonderful people shot not just a pilot, not just a few episodes, but an entire season that now might go unseen,” Flash alum Andy Mientus (aka Grendel’s Larry Stohler) lamented Wednesday on Instagram. “I’m used to shows closing or getting cancelled, but only after they at least get to meet the world, their fate decided (mostly) by their audience. Netflix has grounded its adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic book Grendel.
Deadline revealed the news Tuesday, stating that the show had been in production and that plenty of scenes had been filmed.
Based on Matt Wagner's groundbreaking comic book series, Grendel follows Hunter Rose, a gifted fencer, writer and assassin as, seeking to avenge the death of a lost love, he goes to war with New York's criminal underworld, only to realize...why beat them, when you can join them?
That was the logline shared when the series got a formal pickup a year ago.
Deadline notes that producers plan to shop the series around, but there's no telling what paved the way for the cancellation.
The cast of the project was to include Abubakr Ali as the titular “Grendel”/“Hunter Rose.”

“Grendel” is no longer happening at Netflix, Variety has confirmed.
Based on Matt Wagner’s popular comic books, the series (which had an eight episode order) follows Hunter Rose, a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York to avenge the death of a lost love, until he ends up taking over the crime scene himself. It was originally picked up at Netflix in September 2021.
Producers now have the option to auction the project elsewhere. No further information has been released.
Abubakr Ali is set to play the show’s titular role. Ali is known for playing Sebastian ‘Bash’ Kamal-Stern in “Power Book II: Ghost.” His other credits include playing Raj Patel in “Katy Keene” and a leading role in “What If?,” the upcoming feature from Orion Pictures and Killer Films directed by Billy Porter.

Fans looking forward to Netflix’s Grendel series will be disappointed to learn that the adaptation of the Dark Horse Entertainment property is not moving forward. The Grendel series, led by Abubakr Ali, initially received an eight-episode order as a part of Netflix’s first look deal with the publisher. Thankfully, Grendel could have the chance to be sold to another platform. If another outlet picks up the show, Ali will be the first Arab Muslim male actor to portray a series lead in a comic book adaptation.
Resident Evil and Supernatural alum Andrew Dabb wrote the Grendel series in addition to serving as showrunner and executive producer. According to Deadline, Grendel follows Hunter Rose (Ali), a gifted fencer, writer, and assassin, seeking to avenge the death of a lost love. He goes to war with New York’s criminal underworld, only to realize…why beat them, when you can join them?...

Netflix has nixed its Grendel comic book adaptation, one year after granting it an eight-episode series order.
Hailing from Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb and starring Abubakr Ali (Katy Keene) as the masked vigilante from the award-winning Matt Wagner/Dark Horse comic books, the series was to follow Hunter Rose, a gifted fencer, writer and assassin who, in seeking to avenge the death of a lost love, goes to war with New York’s criminal underworld. The direct-to-Hulu release of “Prey,” the action-thriller prequel to “Predator,” notched the most viewing hours ever on the Disney-owned streamer in its first three days — among all TV series and movies.
That would mean “Prey” had a bigger aggregate viewing-time total over three days than “The Kardashians,” which Hulu in April said was its biggest TV series premiere at the time.
Disney decided to forgo a theatrical release for 20th Century Studios’ “Prey,” which premiered Aug. 5 on on Hulu in the U.S., as well as on Disney’s Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.

It’s good news all around for brand new Predator movie Prey, which has not only won over critics and franchise fans alike, but the film has also broken a new record over at Hulu.

Additionally, Prey is the most watched film premiere on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star Banner in all other territories, based on hours watched in the first three days of its release.”
Meagan Navarro wrote in her 4-star review for Bloody Disgusting, “Prey surprises in how different yet similar it feels to the franchise’s origins. It feels right at home with the mythology of the Predator universe yet stretches the boundaries in tone and scale. Soaring spectacle meets intimate storytelling, delivering one of the most solid entries in the franchise yet.

She finally gets her chance when she’s invited to participate in the ritual of kühtaamia and hunt and kill a vicious animal, before...

The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

The movie also stars Dane Diliegro (“American Horror Stories”) as the Predator.
