Ray Kelllogg’s 1959 schlocker The Killer Shrews is probably best remembered for the laughable titular beasts, actually dogs “dressed” as shrews, but has gone on to b-movie infamy over time via countless video releases and a hilarious Mystery Science Theater 3000 roast. In this day and age, where years between sequels is hardly a concern (notably on follow-ups to Hg Lewis films, for some reason: 41 years between Lewis’ Two Thousand Maniacs (’64) and Tim Sullivan’s 2001 Maniacs (’05); and 39 years between his Blood Feast (’63) and its follow-up Blood Feast 2 (’02), but these are just two examples), it is no surprise that filmmaker Steve Latshaw would give new life to the cult of Shrew with Return Of The Killer Shrews.

Latshaw has reveled in the off-beat his whole career, helming b-movie goodies Dark Universe in 1993, and Jack-o in 1995, and writing dozens more since. On Shrews he reunites with star James Best, with whom Latshaw...

Guys with mullets? Check. Guys played by Corey Haim with mullets? Double check. David Carradine as the improbably named Poon Dong sporting a ridiculous beard groping up a skank? Check. More skanks for the skanking? Double and triple check. You know what that means. Yup. More outrageous images from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s nonstop hilarity and action that’s sure to offend, otherwise known to the masses as “Crank: High Voltage”. Chelios faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working. Remember Chev Chelios? Yeah, he's the lead character from Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine's awesome action hit "Crank," and he'll soon be back on the big screen.

See for yourself, but this just looks totally insane. It's certainly more ridiculous and probably even more over the top than the first one, but as long as it's just as entertaining, you can definitely count me in.
