D’Amelio will portray the character of Chariman in a role Playbill describes as “dance-heavy.” The competitive dancer-turned-TikTok star will begin her “limited engagement” at the Sondheim Theatre on October 29. Her maiden Broadway run will last until January 19, 2025.
“I’m beyond excited to join the Broadway community—it’s a dream I’ve had since I was a little girl,” D’Amelio said in a statement. “To be able to make my Broadway debut—especially in the cast of & Juliet, is truly a dream come true, and I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone.”
D’Amelio’s dancing chops keyed her TikTok breakout, allowing her to become the most-followed creator on the platform.

Julian Smith is one of those online video creators who doesn't release new material very often, but his videos are always on point. Smith's latest offering is no exception. The filmmaker has written, directed, and starred in a sketch called "WiFi", which dives into a world without high-speed Internet. "WiFi" stars Smith as a man who begins to lose his mind after his Internet connection cuts out. The other cast members in the video are a trio of online video creators: Chester See, Joe Hanson, and Shane Hartline. The result combines Community-style genre parody with the fast pace viewers have come to expect from their web videos. "WiFi" is Smith's first new video in three months and only his eighth in the past year. While that is an infrequent schedule, Smith has also released another new video on Blip, as he did with "WiFi" a week before its arrival on...

On June 21, BBC America will debut Almost Royal, a comedy series about two low-level British aristocrats who go on a tour of the United States. In advance of that debut date, BBC America has turned to the YouTube community for Almost Royal Goes to YouTube, a web companion that features eight different YouTubers. Almost Royal Goes to YouTube was filmed at YouTube Space La and lives on BBC America's YouTube channel. Each installment features a conversation between protagonists Poppy and Georgie Carlton (played by Amy Hoggart and Ed Gamble, respectively) and a specific YouTuber. In one episode, DJ Flula teaches the "royal" siblings how to construct a freestyle rap. Other YouTubers featured on Almost Royal Goes To YouTube include Camp Takota stars Grace Helbig, Mamrie Hart, and Hannah Hart. At least three more episodes will arrive before Almost Royal's TV debut, as Chester See, Kingsley, and Strawburry17 will...

YouTube has turned nine, and it celebrated by singing a few of its favorite songs. In a video released on the YouTube Spotlight channel, a handful of the site's top stars belt out karaoke versions of YouTube's greatest hits. The four-minute video runs through nine years of viral YouTube hits. Chester See kicks things off with a rendition of "Chocolate Rain" before Tay Zonday himself arrives to belt out his version of the "Bed Intruder Song". Other highlights include MysteryGuitarMan's on-point cover of the "Trololo" song and Steve Kardynal's hilariously off-key mangling of "Call Me Maybe". There are plenty of other YouTubers in attendance, and they team up to sing karaoke versions of eight different YouTube classics. The video arrived on YouTube one day after the site teamed up with John Legend and the Kennedy Center to present YouTube Onstage Live, a showcase of some of the brightest musicians YouTube has to offer.

The 2014 edition of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival will begin on June 12th, but before that date arrives, What's Trending and Ford plan to add one more name to the list of performers. The social media news channel and the American car company have teamed up for "Escape To Bonnaroo", a music contest that will be judged by a quintet of online video creators. Aspiring musicians can enter the contest by submitting a video through the What's Trending website. Participants should explain why they should win and include a performance. The five submissions that receive the most traction on social media will be invited to participate in a live streaming event hosted by YouTube Space La, where they will be judged by YouTubers Chester See and Glozell Green, Vine stars King Bach and Kandee Johnson, and What's Trending host Shira Lazar. The judges will pick a winner, who will promptly...

Online video network Maker Studios is best known for managing its partner channel, but Maker has recently extended its services by producing a growing crop of original web series. At its first ever Digital Content Newfronts presentation, Maker teased eight new web productions, most of which will include the network's talent. Several of Maker's upcoming originals come directly from the minds of its talented creators. For instance, Chester See will star in a scripted series called Over The Top, which is loosely based on his attempt to make it as an independent musician in Los Angeles. Maker co-founder ShayCarl is producing a web series with Maker, too; it's called ShayLife and "is all about finding the next Epic Rap Battles of History." Original productions will extend to new channels as well. Joseph Garrett Aka Stampy Cat attended the event to discuss Stampy School, his educational Minecraft channel. Also in attendance was Morgan Spurlock,...

Content market launched inaugural Digital Fronts event showcasing online content.
Singer Chester See, child-friendly gamer Stampylonghead, alternative newsreader Ana Kasparian and comedy duo Rhett Mclaughlin and Link Neal of Rhett & Link fame were among the YouTube stars hitting the Palais des Festivals in Cannes this week for Miptv’s inaugural Digital Fronts event showcasing popular online content.
To many people over 40 sitting in the Palais’ Grand Auditorium these names meant nothing, even though between them they have generated more than one billion Internet views.
René Rechtman, president of international at La-based online content hub Maker Studios, one of the companies fronting the event, said there had been “a fundamental shift” in the way so-called “millennials” – people born from the late 1980s to early 2000s – consumed, interacted, and created content.

For YouTube creators hoping to create themed videos, there's no holiday more appealing than Valentine's Day. Romantics can use the holiday to celebrate love while scrooges have an excuse to mock it. Really, any video dealing with romance fits the holiday, and out of the thousands of Valentine's Day videos posted to YouTube over the past week, these are our seven favorites: 7. Cabbie Cupid by Follow That Car! New York City comedian Jimmy Failla is releasing a book about his experiences as a cab driver, and he has promoted it with a series of videos where he gets romantic advice from his taxi passengers. 6. Valentine's Day Kissing Prank by Dudesons This video from prank channel The Dudesons gives a new meaning to the term 'tongue-tied'. Sam Pepper makes a cameo appearance. 5. Love Me For Me by Michelle Phan Michelle Phan's Valentine's Day offering starts out as a standard beauty tutorial...

Camp Takota has had a bit of a bumpy road towards its release, but a recently released trailer has smoothed things out by giving fans a look at the completed product. The two-minute spot, featuring YouTubers Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie Hart, outlines the plot of the upcoming film, which will become available on Vhx.tv in 2014. We already knew the cast and the setting, but the trailer offers an overview of the main arc. Essentially, Helbig's character makes the mistake of getting really drunk and cheating on her fiancee, played by Chester See. As a journey of self-discovery, she returns to the camp where she spent the summers of her childhood. There, she is reunited with her two best friends, and they must team up to fend off a villain who wants to turn Takota into a Digital and Interactive Camp (aka a D.I.C). The production...

Multi-channel YouTube networks are lining up to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas. Just days after Maker Studios the first of a dozen holiday-themed music videos, Awesomeness TV has followed suit, enlisting some notable YouTube talent for a 12 Days of Awesomeness series branded by Aquafina. While the Maker Studios carols fluctuate between straight-ahead renditions and offbeat re-imaginings, the songs included in 12 Days of Awesomeness have thus far been pretty faithful versions of well-tread holiday classics. The main attraction is the individual musical chops of each featured creator. Cimorelli led things off with an a cappella arrangement of 'Joy to the World', and Chester See took over day two by belting out 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer'. His version isn't as good as Dmx's, but then again, it's impossible to top the best. Aquafina, a subsidiary of Pepsi, is using the seasonal music videos to support its FlavorSplash product and the #MakeItMerry campaign in particular.

For the second year in a row, What's Trending? will bring together the online video's biggest creators to give back to the community. YouTube Space La will house Tube-a-Thon, a charity event raising money for Covenant House, on December 12th. Last year's Tube-a-Thon featured a plethora of YouTube's performers, who put on their best shows during a two hour charity drive. From Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig to Pentatonix to the Shaytards, many of online video's brightest stars were out in full force. This year, things will be slightly different. Virgin has stepped aside as the event's sponsor, with the Ford Fiesta Movement picking up the slack and continuing to build its already-expansive presence on YouTube. And while YouTube all-stars like Chester See, Freddie Wong, Toby Turner, and Rooster Teeth will make up the bulk of the performers, Vine will also be well represented, with Brittany Furlan, Paige Kennedy, and...

After their original platform of choice suddenly fell apart, YouTube stars and BFFs Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie Hart have found a new home for Camp Takota. The feature-length film will be released through pay-to-view platform Vhx. Camp Takota was first announced at Vidcon, and it was originally attached to Chill. When Chill unexpectedly shuttered its pay-to-view operation in October, Takota was left without a distributor. Enter Vhx. The platform that has previously worked with comedians like Aziz Ansari and Louis C.K. recently raised a hefty sum to launch a self-distribution service, and Camp Takota will be one of that service's most desirable exclusive offerings when it becomes available for preorder on November 29th. Camp Takota will star Helbig, Hart, and Hart as three childhood friends who reunite at their old summer camp. Beyond its three talented leads, Camp Takota will also feature plenty of top YouTube talent: Chester See...

The best musicians YouTube has to offer will be honored on November 3rd at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, and AwesomenessTV is taking advantage of the preceding 'YouTube Music Week' by providing viewers with a YouTube musical spectacular. The teen-skewing network is the home of Side Effects, a TV-length musical starring some of YouTube's most talented musical creators. Side Effects sports a 40-minute runtime and features a bold combination of comedy, drama, and song. It stars Meg DeLacy as a 16-year old girl whose prescribed medication comes with a side effect of musical hallucinations, which sounds a lot better than constipation and drowsiness. Each musical number is a cover of a Top 40 hit, paying homage to YouTube's status as a haven for cover artists. The cast is full of familiar faces, including Chester See, Lia Marie Johnson, Taryn Southern, Meghan Rosette, and Vincent Cyr. Many of these stars also appear on the film's soundtrack,...

Maddi Jane may be young, but she's a pro on YouTube. The 15 year old singer has amassed over a million subscribers and more than 300 million views. Like many other YouTube musicians, Maddi Jane's most popular videos are covers of well-worn radio favorites, but she's recently branched out and has begun creating her own original songs. We talked to young Maddi about her many accomplishments. Tubefilter: How does it feel to have one million subscribers? Maddi Jane: Amazing! I’m so thankful for my fans—especially those who’ve been with me since the beginning. I feel extremely blessed and excited for what’s to come. Tf: Why did you decide to start posting music on YouTube? Mj: I had a love for music and always knew that I wanted a future in it. Since I was 11, YouTube seemed like the best option for me. Camp Takota, an upcoming feature film on Chill, will be anchored by established YouTube personalities Grace Helbig, Hannah Hart, and Mamrie Hart. While these three leading ladies will already bring a large audience to the film, a few new cast members are adding to the hype. YouTubers Chester See and Sawyer Hartman have joined the project, and both were present during the first day of filming. Both See, who has 1.2 million YouTube subscribers, and Hartman, who has 534,000, have filmmaking experience. See has released a few shorts on his personal channel, and most of Hartman's most popular videos are films he created. Both of their roles are as-of-yet unannounced, but as the filming for Camp Takota began, See gave the ladies a thrill by striking a shirtless pose. Work it, Chester. Camp Takota will star best friends forever Helbig, Hart, and Hart as camp counselors at their former sleep-away stomping grounds.

Check out the poster above for the superhero fan-made short film “First Impressions”, then try to guess which one of those two people in the poster is the superhero. Is it the mild-mannered looking dude in the sweater? Or the girl in the stylish boots? Once you’ve picked a suspect, try to guess which D.C. superhero he/she is. The 5-minute short is directed by Leo Kei Angeleos, and stars Hailey Bright and Chester See as the couple on a first date, and Doug Jones as the villain. Apparently they’ve gotten something Dougie wants, and he’s got a group of random toughs loitering around to help him get it. The action choreography is pretty slick, I gotta say. Spotted by the lads over at GeekTyrant:...

Want to see a badass action-packed short film based around a popular DC superhero? Of course you do! The short is called "First Impressions," and on top of the impressively choreographed fight sequences, Doug Jones (Hellboy) stars in it! I'm sure you'll guess who the superhero is halfway through the film, but I don't want to spoil it for you, in case you don't figure it out. I will say that this is the best fan-made short about the character that I've seen. Here's a short plot summary...

A friendly reminder from the rest of the world: YouTube isn't just an American phenomenon. Approximately seven eighths of the sites viewers come from the non-American world, and the list of most subscribed YouTubers includes a Swede, a Chilean, a Brit, and a Mexican--and that's just in the top 20! YouTube catered to its many foreign viewers during the Monday of Geek Week, where the theme was 'Global Geekery'. Yomyomf regular Chester See served as the day's emcee, earning the right to present some of the day's top videos as a news anchor. Though he did not whistle nor work it while taking us on a journey around the geeky world. (Fun and dangerous idea: take a drink one of the week's anchors says the world 'geek'. ) Out of the videos featured in YouTube's Spotlight on Monday, the most impressive (and far and away the most viewed, with more than a...

I guess Chester See is sick of crooning piano ballads. The popular YouTuber has teamed up with Toby Turner, Wayne Brady, and a host of other recognizable creators for 'Whistle While I Work It', an utterly ridiculous yet oddly catchy dance song. The video features a heavily-autotuned See and Turner hitting the club, where they are joined by several familiar faces, including Timothy DeLaGhetto, Andrew Garcia, Mike Tompkins, Lana McKissack, The Fu Music, and many, many others. Wayne Brady, fresh of his debut appearance on the revived Whose Line Is It Anyway?, drops a guest verse where he reminds us how he once asked if he would have to choke a bitch. In a random twist, the video is bookended by Tony Hawk appearances, in an apparent bump for the skateboarder's Ride channel. Pauly Shore also makes an appearance in See's entourage. The bumpin' track has three alternate endings: one on Yomyomf,...

Judging from his recent work, Chester See is interested in transforming himself from soulful, handsome crooner to bad boy action star. The latest release on his YouTube channel is 'First Impressions', a stylish and action-packed short film where Chester goes on a date with a girl who turns out to be a total badass. The short starts with Chester and his date (played by Hailey Bright) leaving the theater after seeing Kill Bill; a fight breaks out after a shadowy man (Doug Jones) sics his thugs on Bright's character, who, as it turns out, is some sort of agent/spy/kickass action lady. The ensuing fight scene shares a girl power vibe with Kill Bill, though it has less blood, no katanas, and no Japanese people who look like Charlie Brown. The fight, choreographed by Thousand Pounds Action Company, is sufficiently exciting, and Bright (aka attractive YouTube geek girl #43512) is convincing as an action heroine.

I expected plenty of familiar faces at YouTube Comedy Week, but on Tuesday, the event threw me one name I didn't expect to see: Mr. Weebl. Today's kids may think the Nasty Ass Honey Badger is the greatest badger-related video on the Internet, but they just need some perspective. Back in the day, Weebl's 'Badger Badger Badger' became one of the first great viral videos, and ten years after its release, Weebl has created a version for Comedy Week. This time around, godly badgers fly through the sky as a Queen-like remix of the original song plays. The whole thing is actually a very clever partnership with Team Badger, a group hoping to save Britain's dwindling badger population. (For the record, that's eight uses of the word "badger" in the opening paragraph. Now it's nine.) Aside from the revenge of the badgers (ten), Tuesday's slate also featured a few other fun videos,...

Erin go bragh! St. Paddy's Day is here, and plenty of popular YouTube channels are getting in the holiday spirit. Here's a look around at some of the videos we've seen this holiday weekend. Harley Morenstein and Hannah Hart are basically the king and queen of holiday videos. It seems as if every time a festivity rolls around, they each roll out a themed, drunken mess of a meal. This time around, Epic Meal Time has introduced the world to "Hulk turds." Don't question it, just watch. As for Hart, she has invited Mamrie from You Deserve A Drink on to her show for some Guinness and Jameson-infused Shamrock Shakes. Daily Grace takes a break from her own St Paddy's Day vlog to join in the fun, as depicted above. Chug, chug, chug! The best holiday video comes from Chester See, who created a cover of Rihanna's "Stay" alongside former Internet Icon contestant Lana McKissack.

When YouTube first previewed the new format for user channels, they used iJustine as a celebrity spokeswoman, hoping her presence could cushion the immenent negative feedback. With the new format now available for everyone, YouTube has once again gone to its most subscribed channels in hopes of easing the transition.
