Hyderabad, Feb 20 (Ians) Leading Tollywood personalities, top politicians and a large number of fans paid their last respects to actor Nandamuri Taraka Ratna here on Monday.

The mortal remains were brought to Telugu Film Chambers in Jubilee Hills from his residence at Mokila on the city outskirts to enable people to pay their last respects.

The last rites of Taraka Ratna, grandson of legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N.T. Rama Rao, has to be performed on Monday evening.

The young actor breathed his last on the night of February 18 at Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bengaluru where he was admitted on January 27 after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

He had collapsed during the padyatra of his cousin and Telugu Desam Party (Tdp) leader Nara Lokesh at Kuppam in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. After battling for 23 days, he succumbed on Saturday. He was 39.

Hyderabad, Feb 18 (Ians) Tollywood actor Nandamuri Taraka Ratna on Saturday night breathed his last at Bengaluru’s Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences, where he was admitted on January 27 after he collapsed during a padyatra of Tdp general secretary Nara Lokesh in Kuppam town of Andhra Pradesh. He was 39.

Taraka Ratna is survived by his wife Alekhya Reddy and a daughter.

Taraka Ratna was the grandson of Tdp founder, legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao. He was the cousin of Junior Ntr, Kalyan Ram and Lokesh.

The body is likely to be brought to Hyderabad on Saturday night.

After receiving initial aid at a local hospital, he was shifted to the Narayana Hrudalaya Hospital in Bengaluru via road the next day for better treatment.

Doctors say sudden cardiac arrest is a devastating complication among this age group. In the case of Tollywood actor Taraka Ratna (39), the video shown in the media suggests he suddenly collapsed, probably due to heart attack leading to arrhythmias (electrical irregularity) followed by stopping of heart(cardiac arrest).

According to Dr Hari Ram, Senior consultant and head, interventional cardiologist, Slg Hospitals, in this case immediate bystander Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation (shock) along with the correction of the cause of cardiac arrest is the treatment of choice.

“Each second’s delay decreases the chances of survival. Bystander CPR can be initiated by the public also, we need to give training to the public regarding the basic level of CPR.

The incident occurred when there was a stampede like situation outside a mosque visited by Lokesh soon after launching his 4,000 km-long padyatra.

A large number of Telugu Desam Party (Tdp) workers surge forward after Lokesh came out of the place of worship. In the melee, the actor fell down and fainted. Local Tdp leaders rushed him to a private hospital in Kuppam.

Taraka Ratna’s uncle and popular actor N Balakrishna called on him at the hospital. The young actor was later shifted to a hospital in Bangalore.
