Exclusive: The Walking Dead actor Katelyn Nacon and NHL Hall of Famer Phil Esposito have signed on to star in the horror comedy Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma alongside veteran actor Richard Riehle.

The feature from Shane Brady and Emily Zercher follows kids Ralph (Owen Atlas) and Freddy (Collin Thompson), who lead the charge with their parents, Amy (Augie Duke) and Mark (Shane Brady), to take down the world’s most elusive hacker, “The Chameleon” (Chandler Riggs) after their family has everything stolen from them.

Also joining the cast are Xavier Jimenez (The Book of Boba Fett), Brett Maline (Loki Season 2), Jaime Moyer (A.P. Bio), and Rob Belushi (Get a Clue). Local Florida charities Be The Match, and Tsc Alliance have also partnered with the filmmakers.

Chandler Riggs is best known for playing the character Carl Grimes on eight seasons of The Walking Dead, but he has a few horror credits beyond that one – the short Jesus H. Zombie, the Stephen King-inspired Mercy, and the home invasion film Keep Watching. Now Variety reports that Riggs has signed on to star in the horror comedy Hacked, which has secured a SAG Interim agreement so it will be able to go into production during the ongoing Screen Actors Guild strike and is expected to start filming soon in Los Angeles and Tampa.

Shane Brady (Breathing Happy) will be directing the film, which is partially inspired by true events. Brady and producer Emily Zercher were hacked in 2021, and according to Variety “the first ten minutes of the film will be based on their experience. The rest of the film shows ‘what they wish they could have done to that bastard.

Chandler Riggs, the actor who grew up playing Carl Grimes on “The Walking Dead,” is set to return to the genre once more in Hacked. Variety reports today that the upcoming horror-comedy has been granted an interim agreement by SAG-AFTRA and is set to begin production soon.

It’s up to the capable true crime documentary obsessed kids to take down the hacker. Riggs will play the elusive antagonist called “The Chameleon.

While the concept of time seems more and more like a candy bar that I left in the car that eventually warps and melts into everything, there were still a lot of amazing horror movies, TV series, and experiences in 2022, and somehow I found the time to enjoy quite a lot of them. From two excellent film festivals to many amazing movie screenings to experiences that I’ll cherish in my horror-loving heart for the rest of my life, here are my reflections on some of my favorites of 2022:

Hollywood star Cate Blanchett has wrapped up shooting for ‘The New Boy’, a drama film by Australian Indigenous filmmaker Warwick Thornton. Blanchett takes both a starring role and a producer credit in the film, reports ‘Variety’.

Set in 1940s Australia, ‘The New Boy’ is the story of a nine-year-old Aboriginal orphan boy (portrayed by newcomer Aswan Reid) who arrives in the dead of night at a remote monastery, run by a renegade nun (Blanchett). There his presence disturbs the delicately balanced world in a story of spiritual struggle and the cost of survival.

Other established names in the cast include Deborah Mailman and Wayne Blair. An ensemble of new faces including Shane Brady, Tyrique Brady, Laiken Woolmington, Kailem Miller, Kyle Miller, Tyzailin Roderick and Tyler Spencer round out the cast.

Exclusive: Cinedigm has acquired North American rights to the addiction drama Breathing Happy. The film will stream exclusively on the Company’s platform Fandor from December 13.

Written, directed, and starring Shane Brady, Breathing Happy is billed as a wildly surreal yet emotionally grounded update on It’s a Wonderful Life, and centers around recovering addict Dylan (Brady) as he prepares to celebrate one year of sobriety alone on Christmas Day. The synopsis reads: Before the clock can strike midnight, his past demons tempt him to fail in the form of a talking golden door, his ex-drug dealer, and magic tricks. After bonding on Ride Like a Girl, Rachel Griffiths and emerging writer-director Madeleine Dyer are jointly developing a TV comedy series based on a prominent Australian actor.

Describing Rachel’s concept as a new age, male version of Eliza Dolittle, Dyer says the plot will follow the actor as he learns to be ‘woke’ in how he relates to women and conducts himself in the current social climate.

They envisage an Extras-style series where actors and celebrities will play versions of themselves and are still in discussions with the actor about his participation.

Dyer spent five months with Griffiths on a Screen Australia-funded director’s attachment and director’s assistant on pre-production and principle shoot of the Michelle Payne biopic starring Teresa Palmer and Sam Neill.

That collaboration prompted Griffiths to laud Dyer as a “sister zeitgeist hunter” during her Hector Crawford memorial lecture at Screen Forever.

Exclusive: Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler and Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan are set to topline King Knight, a pagan comedy written and directed by Richard Bates Jr. It’s about a High Priest of a modern-day coven who confronts his past as an all-American prepster.

Screenworks, Jungle Entertainment and Midwinter Films have selected five regional writers/directors to develop the sci-fi comedy feature film Croak with Nash Edgerton and Christiaan and Connor Van Vuuren.

Sebastian Chan from Higgins, Act, David Wade from Whyalla, Sa, Barbara Taylor from Lennox Head, Nsw, Madeleine Dyer from Townsville, Queensland and Siobhan Mulready from Maroochydore, Queensland will spend four and half days workshopping the project in Gladstone, Queensland starting November 4.

The Screenworks initiative has received funding through Screen Australia’s Enterprise Ideas Program with investment support from Screen Queensland, delivered in partnership with Jungle Entertainment and Midwinter Films.

Directors Connor and Christiaan Van Vuuren are set to run a development lab for their upcoming film Croak in conjunction with Screenworks and director Nash Edgerton, in Gladstone, Queensland this November.

Screenworks has opened applications today for five early career, regionally based directors/writers to participate in the four and half day lab, including at least two from regional Queensland. Each selected participant will be paid a fee of $4,500 in addition to having travel to Gladstone and accommodation expenses covered.

Jungle Entertainment has launched a features division, with a focus on international films to be shot and produced in Australia.

Producer Bridget Callow-Wright has been appointed as a development executive to assist in developing the features slate, which includes genre, action-drama, and documentary, all with the company’s signature comedic style.

Callow-Wright was formerly senior development executive at Cowlick Entertainment, and will retain her own banner Midwinter Films.

First off the slate will be science-fiction comedy Croak, about a gang of teenagers who discover that their biology teacher is harbouring a dark secret that is about to unleash death and destruction. Comedy for a Cure will be held at The Globe Theatre at Universal Studios Hollywood starting with a 1.5 hour reception and silent auction at 5 pm, followed by magic, music and hilarious comedy, interspersed with a short program and live auction.

In today’s casting round-up, THR reports that Jamie Dornan, Ben Mendelsohn, and sisters Jemima and Lola Kirke will be teaming together for the indie drama Untogether, the directorial debut of best-selling author Emma Forrest. The film concerns Jemima Kirke’s former-teen-prodigy-turned-junkie Andrea, who has an affair with Nick (Dornan) while she’s clean and trying to be a writer. Nick is already a successful writer, regaling the world with stories of his war-time experiences. Lola Kirke plays Jemima’s younger sister, whose relationship with the older Mendelsohn is tested when she falls for a Rabbi with an even larger age gap than her and Mendelsohn. Forrest will pen the script as well, which is being produced by Luke Daniels, Scott Lastaiti, and Brandon K. Hogan.

THR is also reporting that Michael Cera is currently in discussion to star in Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut Molly’s Game, alongside Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.

Melbourne-based screenwriter, video artist and filmmaker Harry Aletras has won the 2015 Australian Writers Guild.s Insite award for unproduced screenplays.

Aletras will attend the Adelaide Film Festival (October 15-25) and meet industry directors and producers with a view to moving the project, crime thriller Martingale, onto the screen.

Martingale follows Finnigan Wallace, a 24-year-old gambling addict and philosophy major whose addictions have ruined his relationships with his girlfriend and his widowed mother. Owing a considerable debt to a gangland boss, he is ordered to go to a criminal club in Vietnam to collect a sizeable quantity of heroin, an ultimatum. which he sees as a symbolic suicide.

While I enjoyed most of V/H/S: Viral, not really wanting to play favorites, there’s no denying the frantic awesomeness of a little segment called “Bonestorm.” My best goes out to Nacho Vigolondo, Gregg Bishop and Marcel Sarmiento for their respective horror shorts, but Spring/Resolution filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have done the unthinkable and challenged previous V/H/S favorite “Safe Haven” for franchise supremacy. Starting out with a group of skateboard punks looking to record a sick demo, the segment quickly becomes a video-game-esque shoot ‘em up I dubbed “Skater Punk Call Of Duty.” Once Benson and Moorhead hit their stride, there’s no competition amidst the skull-crushing gore, crazy cultists and evil monsters, which you can read about in my Fantastic Fest review of V/H/S: Viral.
