“Ten years ago, BTS wouldn’t have made it in the U.S.,” says Shin Cho. “Western audiences just weren’t ready. Now, people get it.”
Cho is the new head of K-pop for Warner Music Asia, where he leads strategy for the genre’s global growth. For Cho, who joined Warner Asia nine years ago and moved up the ranks from its marketing team into his new role last year, the popularity of K-pop is well-established — but its staying power will depend on how labels position artists beyond Asia.

David Cameron gave a mixtape to his fellow G8 leaders at their summit in June, and High Fidelity it is not.
The themes of the meeting in Northern Ireland were tax evasion and transparency, but the 10-song playlist had no clear unifying theme. In fact, the Telegraph reports that the songs were not selected by Cameron at all.
According to The Independent, the playlist was put together by BPI, the British record company trade association, as "a bespoke creation for the leaders."
The 10 songs constitute a smattering of the chart-topping adult contemporary fare Barack Obama or Vladimir Putin might have caught if they tuned into BBC Radio 2 while cruising around the Lough Erne Resort.
The Guardian called the mixtape an offering of "well-scrubbed young men and woman peddling polished but largely derivative takes on folk and soul, with a sideline in tastefully bleeping electronica."

As a continuation of the "Texas Chainsaw" storyline, "Texas Chainsaw 3D" fell painfully short of its iconic predecessors. From weak acting to undeveloped characters and a tired plot, critics found numerous faults in the first wide-release film of 2013. Even HuffPost Entertainment's Mike Ryan had his own "urgent questions" after watching the film. "Gangster Squad" was marked negatively for its gratuitous violence as well as a shapeless storyline that Rick Groen said left the film "disposable." Another year, another rousing pop festival from the North East radio giants, as the Newcastle Metro Arena played host to some of the biggest names in the industry for the annual Metro Radio Live gig.
As with last year’s event, the bill mixed performances from extremely high profile stars – like Olly Murs, Labrinth and McFly, with currently trending acts like Little Mix and DJ Fresh and relative new-comers like Angel, Connor Maynard, Amelia Lily and Misha B. It was a crowd friendly set-up, rounded out by the likes of Leona Lewis, Lawson, Scouting For Girls and Stooshe, and the mix of talent was undoubtedly why the gig sold out.
Each was given between ten and fifteen minutes, with a fairly heavy emphasis on the show-casing of new songs, as well as some classics mixed in for good measure, and the occasionally deafening response from the crowd,...
