- Joey Sylvester was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois USA as Joseph John Sylvester. He studied film and theatre at Columbia College Chicago. His first acting job was on stage as the the Chief Weasel in Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. Joey carried his video camera everywhere and herded his friends from various location to the next doing scene after scene. Perhaps this was only child's-play, but Joey's imagination had been activated, and a seed had been planted. Little did he know that he had tapped his creative and logistical talent for directing, producing, and acting.
While attending Columbia College he booked a small role opposite James Spader in the Keanu Reeves thriller The Watcher (2000) Relocating to Los Angeles, California USA Joey pushed on the indie scene. Sharing the screen with Mark Addy, Danny Trejo, and Oz Perkins.
Joey's directorial debut In the Land of Opportunity (2009) premiered at FESPACO in Burkina Faso, and was featured on the BBC. The film was honored and chosen to screen at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, they called it "An impressive and well-crafted film".
Joey was the Second Unit Director on Dr Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (2009) by 20th Century Fox. Starring Kyla Pratt and Judge Reinhold which later earned Joey his first feature film directing job Walk A Mile In My Pradas (2011) starring Tom Arnold, Mike Starr, and Dee Wallace.
In between projects; Joey directs a variety of internet commercial spots. Including Calvin Klein, Pepsi, and Bounce Fabric Softener. Joey's love for music found him an opportunity to direct music videos with Four-time Grammy winner James Fauntleroy, Talib Kweli, GoonRock, Lil Durk, and Ehab Tawfnik.
